Why does MS need to be such a scumbag with Windows updates?
Every now and then, this unskipable blue setup screen appears and forces the user to make some decisions.

"Do you want to set Edge as the default browser?"

"Do you want a 360 subscription?"

The usual crap.

But it‘s not skippable!

You have to make a decision and the UI for "fuck off" is different for every decision.

You can‘t just press the Nope button every time.
It‘s fucking deliberate. They want you to spend time on reading their shit and force it down your throat.

And let‘s not forget about people who don‘t know computer stuff very well and are confused by this. Then call us because "the computer isn‘t working again."
And you can‘t tell them to skip this slimy rotten vomit of a marketing weasel because you need them to tell you what the options are for each fucking decision screen.

😫

MS knows what's best for you.

How dare you to reject their superiority?

Yeah, but my 82 years old grandmother is using windows since August 2021.

She needed help upgrading to 11.

But everything is pretty much working for her

She uses : Skype, YouTube. That's all.

And there is mw with a MAGIC sudo chmod 777 / -r

Yes it was a typing mistake

Took me 3 hours to bring system back to a working state. But can't blame linux. You can do same shit in windows, it's just super rare as you usually use GUI for managing rights.

@NoToJavaScript huh? I don’t understand what you are trying to say.

@NoToJavaScript Why did you do that to your grandma? What did she do to deserve Windows 11?!
  • 0
@Oktokolo obviously Skype and YouTube only runs on Windows10+ /s
  • 1
@Oktokolo Because she was stressed with windows 10 constantly prompting for update. So it was just easier to update :)
  • 0
@NoToJavaScript I doubt that win11 is any different with the updates.

@NoToJavaScript Disabling the TPM in the BIOS would have made the PC incompatible with Windows 11 and therefore stopped the nudging.

MS trying to force their dog 💩 products onto people? Who would've guessed?

@Oktokolo Yeap, and how do I walk my grandmother throug it with 13.000 km between us ? :)

And honestly, just explining that icons are now in the middle of the bar and not to the left, took about 5 minutes TOPS.

She doesn't use ANY other means to lunch skype or youtube (Youtube beeing just a link to youtube home page in EDGE with uBlock in A NEW WINDOW. (tabs etait too much for her)).

And I told her to reboot every 3 days. (You know to clean up all the things she could've lunchec)

@NoToJavaScript Get her to open some Jitsi webpage on her phone and remote control her through the bios using that phone as your eyes and her other hand as your interface to the keyboard.

Not easy, but at least it is over after the session - while Windows 11 is the gift that keeps on giving...

I've met people who in response to this sort of malicious design simply advocated outright killing those who forced those decisions on us.

Sometimes I still wish I knew those people. Sometimes I wonder if they were right all along.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

@Oktokolo She doesn't have a phone. Except landline

@NoToJavaScript Outsource the IT support to someone who can actually walk there and do the maintenance. Or mail her a preconfigured phone or let her mail you the system 😛

    @Oktokolo Yes, possible.

But it would take more time than just upgrade to win 11 (Whcih we did in 15 minutes).

    And no problems since :)

Not once un update poped or something. At least for my grandmother, it's working well.

@Oktokolo BTW, she didn't get what a "mail" is in general.

    Forget emails. Tried.

@NoToJavaScript Nah, "mail" meant the meatspace mail, not email.

Btw, nice that you and your grandmother didn't regret the upgrade and are satisfied with Windows 11.
