iAmNaN68458yCentOS. I run it on a desktop, and on an Intel Atom powered netbook. Both run well. Smooth install, with no issues on either platform.

fedora or ubuntu are both quick choices, linux mint is another option. just about anything else would require manual work

resdac8748y@SuryaK closely pay attention to your wifi card, this often caused me trouble, check the availability list before you install and install it first thing after start if needed. Especialy broadcom :/ its a bitch

Literally any distribution.
Software support is more problematic. Most software publishers publish .deb packages for Debian/Ubuntu/Mint. Some might go to a more specific - Ubuntu, but none go to the too specific one - Mint. So you could say that Ubuntu is the safest bet if you want an easy life.
