Hmm. Interesting. Do you work with binary a lot in your organisation? You're assuming your candidates will know what LSB is? I haven't looked at that since high school (20-odd years ago) and have never, ever needed to know it in my job. If you're trying to learn something about the person, fine. If you're looking for the right answers only, I have problems with this interview question unless it's wholly appropriate for your company.

@CrankyOldDev I'd rather not share the tests but anyone who can write a few lines of code and knows his way around Javascript should pass. They're not hard at all.
Everybody's talking about the 50/50 for some reason, so here's my 2 cents. I've been trying to hire another senior front-end engineer for my team for over two months, and not one half-competent candidate passed our tests yet*. The first one to pass, and I don't care whether it's a male candidate, a female one, or a type of asexual sentient mushroom spore, will get the job.
We do prefer a female candidate because our team is all male at the moment. But that's not going to stop us from hiring a male one if we find anyone.
Also, out of 40ish candidates I've interviewed so far, I believe only 3 were female. Might be a fourth one I can't recall at the moment.
