I do think it's high time there was a straightforward facial gesture you could do to exit vim though, preferably :cringe. I mean, it's 2023, for god's sake!!!!!

Many people say Vim is hard. It’s really easy.

    1. First, search for “how to use vim basics”
    2. Go for a more customisable version of vim (say nvim) (very personal opinion)
    3. Spend a few hours trying to make it “look nice”.
    4. Spend hours on YouTube, learning entire new programming languages and configuration mechanisms to “customise” shortcuts and plugins
    5. Love it if you find all plugins. Hate it if you work on some languages/frameworks that don’t have a very cool language server or plugin or setup tutorials. (Eg: salesforce)
    6. Love it or hate it, set fire to the computer
    7. When fire subsides, wash the ashes away
    8. Buy a new computer
    9. Install another IDE (like VSCode) and use it
    10. Every 6-8 months, try the whole thing again, and resist the temptation to kill yourself as hard as you can. If you fail to resist, no one would judge you. 🫡
