GieltjE18077yMade my first fully functional program when I was 8 (qbasic), was actually used for teaching basic counting and math for a few years in the school I was at.
Had to learn it in english without anyone who could help or even understood something (note am Dutch so english isn't my first language).
Just ignore the world and learn what you like when you like. -
dracondev467yI am not sure. I have been consistently working on HTML and CSS and improving my knowledge since I was around 10.
-
I started at the age of 14, I know co-workers who start teaching their interested kids at 10, 11 and 14

People who do it for the money learn at college.
People who do it because it's fuckING AWESOME are usually quite bored in college. I'm only there because the piece of paper gets me a job. Also math. -
@maltedMilk
13yo scratch
14yo scratch and app inventor
15yo real coding stuff
But the reality is...
teacher: ALL PROJECTS SHOULD BE HANDED IN SB2 (scratch) FORMAT! -
bashlord4387y@AlgoRythm That's not entirely true, I had never programmed in my life before I went to college. Turns out I fucking love programming and I started spending all of my free time on it.
Now I'm bored af at the classes because I already know most things that are being teached, and in group projects I'm the guy that codes everything and still gets the same grade as the rest...
I really wish I had started programming earlier, but I don't think I should be judged because I didn't. -
Bram2003557yNothing unbelievable about it.... I started when I was 11 when I started opening random programs on his PC and he saw it and showed me what to lookup on YouTube and that's how I started 😁
-
GieltjE18077y@LeoFish not boasting or anything, just providing an example.
Know a few others who started around that age too.
In the Netherlamds there is a program which provides coding classes to primary schools upon request. Not government funded or mandatory unfortunately. -
@cpdevelops that's so cool. Ive wanted to program for a very long time. But always thought I wasn't smart enough. Then I talked to my teacher and he gave me some advice and motivated me. That was a year ago, and right now, im learning slow, but surely. Im feel very passionate about it

@JsonC11 Here in Serbia, it kinda is. People either know a lot or nothing about computer. And very small amount of them knows. I'll just say that at the moment, there are 10000 programmer jobs needed here, and when you say to your friends that youre learning programming they just laugh and doubt in you
-
@AlgoRythm I don't know yet, I haven't even started high school lol. Tho I can't wait for collage, I love learning new stuff
-
@Salmakis when I got interested in programming five years ago, I only knew C++ existed and I thought it was the only language. I wish I knew about BASIC or Pascal at the time.. Lol
-
@tinkrmind In my school we learned how to change font in Word on informatics class...
-
@Bram2003 Internet wasn't quite common thing here when I was 11, so I had pretty much no resource to learn from at the time. And books weren't translated either
-
@marjanovicsteva I had LOGO in primary school, BASIC in middle school and C++ in highschool. As far as I know, this is the norm for schools in India.. well the better sort of schools.
-
Bram2003557y@marjanovicsteva and that's why I was lucky Internet was already every where in 2014 😁😝
