Bought a new tv. Over £1000 which is probably classed as mid range. However it's still a chunk of money.

It's my first experience with android since 2008.

It's still ABSOLUTELY SHITE!!!

Wish I'd gotten another TV now.

@heyheni yeah I probably will. Still ruins the experience a bit having to switch over to Apple TV.

I just wish the baked in OS wasn't a bag of shite.

I bought a 50 inch dumb TV and plugged my PC in. Linux TV FTW.

@alwaysmpe you sir at least show brains! @SSDD can you root it? (Actually curious) What makes it shit I've not seen a Sony Android TV?

I got an Android TV, I like it!

@mortanius it's slow, like 10 second day between hitting the button and getting a response.

The apps suck. Netflix comes out of the box and it's broken. Google "Netflix android tv" - it's a fucking joke that between Sony, android and Netflix, they can't get a fucking app to work out of the box. It's a huge issue. I had to follow guides on YouTube to get fucking Netflix to open.

The App Store sucks. The games are all shite and require permissions to things like contacts. Why does a shitty racing game need access to my contacts? And when I deny access it crashes!!

The IR blaster that comes supplied also doesn't work properly, again - this is a huge issue on the internet. Loads of people complaining about it. When you push "up" for example, the IR blaster sends 3 up commands. So trying to get from channel 1 to channel 2 is impossible without another workaround. Seriously, google it.

The picture quality is amazing and the physical TV set looks great. But the software..... holy fuck.

I have NO regrets about switching to iOS back in 2008/2009.

you could try to root it, this way you can acsess it via ssh and your able to stream from a nas via ftp.
But it doesn't solve your problem :-/

Ugh I've seen similar to what you describe on the LG smart TV think they run WebOS well the ones at work do. They don't respond fast enough in my opinion. Thanks for the heads up.

    I don't actually own a TV, just 2 X 28" 4K Asus monitors. 😊

I have no issues with my Phillips. I don't use Netflix, so changed the button to Kodi. Only thing that's a bit annoying is that when I hit search it brings up voice search, and I don't have a mic 😶

I got Android TV on an Nvidia Shield and I absolutely love it. Sony must have caked something up there.

On the bright side, Sony makes some of the best non-oled panels on the market so you got that going for you 😋

Don't get a smart TV, or at least not one with all that shite. Get the dumbest TV you can, and a Raspberry Pi (if you're an open source person) or an Apple TV (if not).

    TV is still a thing?

@d4ng3r0u5 I have a Pi with Kodi on it. Not particularly fast, but did well for last 6 months. Now, after some patches everything seems broken :(

@d4ng3r0u5 Nvidia Shield should defenately be on that list. It's the best STB on the market

Could also be relatively bad hardware? Got two friends with smart tv's, one has a 500 euro one with the most shit android experience ever (slow as fuck etc) and one has a 200 euro one with way worse hardware but it runs smooth as fuck.
