    Yeah, it's a nice theory, but there's also the human factor of "well X is responsible for that, so I won't bother looking too deeply"

    It certainly let openssl down when heartbleed hit, so many people used it they all assumed someone else was looking after it and it turned out it was just one person and they couldn't do it all.

    There's a bug in your image. Comments are preceded by two slashes. 😃

    @Letmecode The quote is from Linus Torvalds, phrased in this way by Raymond.

    I think it applies to some extent to low level stuff — a bug in a kernel is easier to solve if many people play around with the code, there will be some guy who knows everything about scsi card drivers or the differences between bluetooth versions.

    For higher level stuff, a larger group will just argue more, about why MySQL should be replaced by Postgres, someone screams that git sucks because it's too complex, that all the bugs are all PHP's fault, then a fistfight breaks out because someone suggest rewriting the code base to nodejs.

    Okay from the top:

    @Letmecode
    Didn't know you code with cattle, no wonder why you are always nagging / ranting on here.

    @nmunro
    you have a funny way of making a sentence! you say something and then you answer yourself in the same breath. Like you said only one pair of eye balls where looking after OpenSSH.

    @Gogeta70
    I didn't make the picture, and besides I think the reference of the single slash is to the Linux / UNIX bash rather than commenting in the body of code.

    @bittersweet
    Wrong! the concept belongs to Linus, but the actual quote itself was first formulated & coined by Eric back in 1999 in his essay which later on turned into a book titled: "The Cathedral and the Bazaar"

    @bittersweet & @Letmecode
    Fist fights? small bugs!? have either of you heard of Linux, Red Hat Enterprise, Facebook, Amazon, Google? all of which are running Red Hat which depends on the same concept!

    If you haven't, I am sure you have used stack overflow! No fist fights, no small bugs, just answers.

    @codeRetard No fistfights on stackoverflow? 😂
  • 0
    @bittersweet Not on the back end Linux powered servers. And even in the discussions, the answer being provided is debated by others who have some knowledge about what is being discussed and ultimately gets up voted and accepted as the answer when it addresses the issue at hand.

    All the little kids wanting to pick a fight, mainly due to lack of knowledge or ignorance, are safely disregarded as the solution presents itself.

    @Letmecode Dude, ranting is one thing, what you do is another! you basically are like devRant's common denominator! you and your so called rants about pretty much nonsensical matters is all over the place and you always seems to have to say something in almost all of the rants just to have said something.

    The cattle remark is a good case in point, you talk more for the sake of talking!

    @Letmecode So many curse words and such a cute temper tantrum for someone who doesn't "give a flying rat's cunt"

    Literally laughing out loud here!
  • 0
    @Letmecode you obviously have comprehension problems as well dude! that was not a provocation, that was a factual statement boy!
  • 0
    @Letmecode
    .....and just like that you show that you are also retarded!

    Of course you are not my boy you imbecile! I meant a tamper tantrum throwing little boy, that you sure as hell are acting like here!

    Actual facts for a good argument!? I presented you with many earlier on, but your lack of comprehension withstanding you were incapable of drawing upon them to strike up a healthy argument with me. Instead you resorted to cursing, kicking and screaming like a little boy you are.

    In case you haven't noticed, unlike you I don't rant as often since I value substance and quality over heaps of crappy nonsensical mental diarrhea. But I welcome your tamper tantrums as they are always good for a laugh. See you my next rant little boy, ha ha!

    @Letmecode
    You ARE a retard! ha ha...
  • 0
    @Letmecode Still factual statements, too bad you are retarded or you would have realized it
  • 0
    @codeRetard You state @Letmecode couldn't deal with the facts and just insulted you. Yet the very first thing you said in response to me was commenting on how I choose to express myself and it certainly didn't read like it was useful or constructive feedback.

    I didn't once comment on anything about you or your way of doing anything, you however did. That makes you the cockwomble in this situation.

    Fuck off, you hypocritical bawbag and learn the difference between statements and questions, I didn't once ask a question, I made a statement.

    @nmunro
    Correction; I stated that he failed to draw upon the presented facts due his lack of comprehension not that he could not deal with the truth. If you want to state what I said, do it accurately.

    I never said that you did ask a question, nor did I say anything about you as a person, but rather the sentence you uttered. Moreover, I genuinely find the original statement you posted funny. You state a point against the concept being offered by the quote, yet a few words later you also state why OpenSSL failed, only one set of eyeballs were maintaining the code, which is essentially the original point the quote is raising; more people looking at the code reduces the possibility of such bugs!

    Personally, I find that hilarious and, as you like to put it, I chose to express myself in my reply.

    interestingly, your lack of comprehension, and your ensuing use of curses in your reply is suggestive of you being the next @Letmecode here on devRant.

    @Letmecode Awww look a match made in devRant! I am sure the two of you make an amazing couple together.

    I bet you are still under the impression that I am trying to provoke you, ha ha...
  • 0
    @Letmecode ha ha ha, this is too hilarious! honestly is English a second language to you or something!? do you know the meaning of words? do you know what provoke actually means!? can you honestly not comprehend the meaning of sentences!?

    Please, and I honestly mean this, keep on provoking me, its too much fun!
  • 0
    Oh god, here we go again. Can you both knock it off? You're acting like children.
  • 0
    @Letmecode Meh, it's like arguing with my younger sister, has to always comment on everything and be the person to have the last word.

    I once told her she'd disagree and start a fight over literally nothing. Her reply? "No, I wouldn't, you would!"

    All she had to do was say nothing, it actually took her effort to prove herself wrong.
  • 0
    @nmunro says the person who makes a sentence trying to show how something does not make sense and yet seconds later disproves his own point by providing ample evidence otherwise!
  • 0
    @Letmecode Okay, Cambridge, good source! Provoke; Cause Reaction, Make Angry. So far, starting from my original rant, you were the person who were provoked (Cause Teaction). furthermore, my later replies to your initial utterances provoked (Make Angry) you to use curse words in replying to me and it further provoked (Make Angry) you to try to prove me wrong by citing Cambridge dictionary.

    I know English is not your first language, but dude so far you are the one easily provoked, and if anyone is the troll its you!

    P.S. I studied at Cambridge by the way.
  • 0
    @Letmecode Dude, you are beyond being provoked (Make Angry) and are now triggered (Being filled with hate after seeing, hearing or experiencing something you can't stand.)

    I know obscenities are among the very first words foreigners pick up in English language, but whats up with all the hateful curse words and wishing I hang myself!

    I think you need to retreat into your safe-space now and calm down before you post some more.

    @Letmecode keep on provoking me boy! keep on! ha ha ha ha...
