@Alt-Grrr nope. I'm a 90 minute per way commuter by bike, train and tram (in that order) using either bose noise cancelling or custom made hearing protection. 175 usd a month, 233.6 usd a month for first class in holiday seasons to avoid crowded trains.
I understand your fear about the survey people. Protip: answer all their questions after their first question in one string to let them avoid you in future. Really helps: "yeah, I'm traveling from station X by bike to the train station W to catch tram B at station Y to reach station Z, all with my month ticket, isn't that great? Ha, all your questions answered, bye..." -
1) Sadly.
2) 1.5 hours average. Wait for train 1, 25 minute ride to station 1. Wait for train 2. 15 minutes to station 2. 15 minutes walk to work.
3) nope
4) not really. Trains here are known to not be on time. I get very anxious if I see on the line updates that something went wrong. If it does, I'm usually stranded and forced to phone a lift or take the bus. Sucks. -
Froot75397y1) Yes and I love it. Driving a car is dead time. Public transport let's meet read or watch YouTube videos or whatever
2) ~50min
3) VModa Crossfade Wireless. Tho I wouldn't call it "hearing protection" when you have a video or music on
4) Nope, they are pretty frequent and it's not like being at work 5 min later is a problem -
Bikonja23837y1. No, I commute by bicycle
2. ~25 min
3. It would be pretty irresponsible and dangerous in the bike, but I really miss music during my commutes sometimes
4. N/A
Although when it's really really windy or if my bike's at the shop or something the answers change to:
1. Yes, tram (in between walks)
2. ~40 min (~15 walk, ~10 tram, ~15 walk)
3. Protection no, but I listen to music on random earphones (I hate how they fall out, but I feel idiotic with proper headphones on a commute).
4. Not really because we have displays telling us the reasons for delays and I always go earlier in case there's an unexpected delay. With that said, it does make me uncomfortable. -
C0D4669017y1) yes
2) 1.5 hour on trains + 30 minute walk
3) yes, i don’t want to talk to some random.
4) nope, if i’m late then so be it. -
1) yes
2) it used to be 2h, I've just moved closer to work to cut out the train, now it's 10mn.
3) I use senheisser momentum 2 over-ear noise cancelling headphones to listen to my tunes some mornings but they're really good at blocking out sound.
4) no, my managers know I'm on the busses and trains... I find it better to turn up late to work but relaxed and ready to go, rather than late to work but flustered and frustrated.
Sounds like you could use a hand with anxiety: there are various charities that help with CBT counselling and I highly recommend it, if you want a more pragmatic view of your working life.
End of the day, it's just work mate. -
I WISH! I hate driving because I don't trust the other people to know how to so I'm a nervous wreck
