That's actually one of the very few things on your resume that prospective employers DO check. Not always, but often enough that lying about past employment is pretty risky.

@b2plane its usually part of the background check. If it's not included in that, then they usually just call the companies you say you worked for and ask when you worked there and what position(s) you held.
Employment history is the most common thing people lie about on resumes so most companies put a lot of effort into verifying it. -

@b2plane I'm no expert on hiring or HR or anything so take my words with a grain of salt, but as far as I know, companies don't actually like talking to each other. Blacklisting you globally is basically impossible unless you're in a very small, specialized field where everybody knows everybody. There's no global database of job applicants. Someone with a massive personal vendetta against you could maybe make it harder to find a job, but most companies couldn't give less of a shit if you end up working for a competitor because they didn't want to hire you.
Also, that kind of blacklist is actually illegal in many US states (and probably a lot of other countries too).
They might put your name on an internal "do not hire" list, but the odds of any other company seeing that list are almost non-existant. -

So basically a freelance type of work so i can say that i have 5+ years of professional experience (which is in fact true for the years of experience). How are they gonna background check a remote freelance work on Upwork?

The chance of being sued is slim, but possible if the company made you sign a statement.
Usually companies won't share - or to be more precise aren't allowed to share with regards to data privacy laws - the information of an fraudulent application.
That said, if you try a "fake it till you make it approach" and it is determined that your application was a fraud, immediate termination is an option.
For example in Germany with strict employee and labor rights, usually a working contract cannot be terminated without a good reason - a fraudulent application would be an exemption.

Not applicable to the at-will employment, but worth mentioning.
Last but not least: Even IF the company doesn't terminate the contract, management isn't as dumb as some people might believe.
It's very easy to notice when someone doesn't deliver and - given that legal actions are in non at-will employments a risk - it's easier to just make the job for the employee a living hell.
@root is in my opinion definitely a victim of that - for the reason of non compliance to whatever frigging nonsense work culture her cultist management believes in, not a fraudulent resume... But still, it's imho a good example on how management can make a job a living hell.
