If my phone wasn't almost dead or if I had my laptop I would offer to skype.

erik40415837y@projektaquarius Thanks! Makes me wonder; I remember someone created a unofficial DevRant channel. That thing still a thing?
-
@erik404 no idea but that would be cool as hell. Maybe I'll make a line group.

ChappIO46937yWell we seem to be in the same country. Come on over to amersfoort if you like. I always have a couple of tripples in the fridge.

erik40415837yTried to make a devrant slack channel. The name devrant is taken, so it must be done already.

shdw9497yI feel you. The last couple of weeks I've walked out the office smiling to people and they looked scared. Saw myself in the mirror at the restrooms afterwards and fully understands them now. Looked rather psychotic.

spacem18367ySomeone posted devrant slack and discord servers a while back I joined but have never been active in them. Here are links:

Eldius6817yYeah, sometimes you need to drink a beer and show your (awesome) code to someone who can understand it.. And sometimes "this someone" give advices or make comments about it is a good thing...

boshtian1097yI also have friends who are not in dev and I'm not able to show them my code. But on the other hand it sometimes feel good to talk about random stuff. If I'd had only dev people for my friends, I'm affraid that would be the only thing we'd be talking about. 😊

@boshtian
That is true. A group of friends i have are not all dev (3 of us are in the dev line. 1 in the networking line. 1 in the large electrics engineering line. 1 in studies for electronics engineering and 1 that has done materials science and was a teacher of sciences at a school)
The engineers are allways a blast to argue with (have you ever tried arguing with an engineer? Abiut half way through you realise they enjoy it)
But the group is all technologically inlcined and IT peeps. Id say a friends of non devs is boring but friends of technologically inclined are fun. They can atleast understand and keep up. -
erik40415837y@memoussati I am from Rotterdam, when I am in Damsco Ill contact you for some beer a devtalk!

I absolutely feel you man. Where I live (south Texas) there are not many developers. The ones that exist cater to very specific use cases and do not know what I am talking about most of the time. I really feel lonely. I work for a company that contracts people as developers and sends them to different companies here. My team consists of the owner of our group (delphi and classic asp developer) our team leader (same as the boss type of developer) and a dude that works with me, a visual foxpro developer. Until recently, i had to show how ajax works for the boss since he was tripping out over my code and at one point mentioned that i should avoid doing things too differently from the rest of the team. I worry every day that i might not be able to work to my fullest since i am limited by the stack that they choose.so...lonely

This post made me thirsty. By the time I finished reading the comments I have already downed 2cans of beer

I need more dev friends... currently drinking a beer alone. Not that I am alone but I am unable to engage in normal conversation at the moment. Just finished a 7 hour coding binge where I developed a solution which I am very proud of and which results in weeks of development time saved for the company which results in more time for proper refactorimg and Magic tournaments. I just want to sit down with a friend, show my code, ask for improvements and reason the chosen solution. And drink beer.
