So ranters, what distros are you using for work environment? (sorry apple fans this is for Linux) I have been using mint and thinking about venturing into arch.. But I'm not sure

@Zelx you will need a week to get confy, but it pays off. Arch is all about configuration and YOU have to do it (but there is a vast documentation, so nothing worry about, just plenty to google).

If you search for "arch linux beginner tutorial" you will find the official arch's website with all you must do to get started. It's not eeasy easy (like setting up an ubuntu), but if you take your time and do it properly, you will never want to go back.

Depends on what kind of development. Arch is both amazing and difficult for development because it has all the latest libraries, even if they break compatibility. That being said, pacman is one of the best package managers out there, so you can fine tune everything and lock packages from upgrading.

I love Arch. It's a bit of extra work, but it comes easy after a while. But just remember, your Arch system might break from an update just because two packages you use are no long compatible. So, it's not the most reliable for dev distributions.

Other than Arch, I'd say CentOS/RHEL (dev copy is free), Fedora, or OpenSUSE. SUSE has awesome btrfs stuff going on and loads of Active Directory integration if your into that.

OSX mainly but the desktop is running arch with cinnamon3.0. You won't regret moving to arch. the installation is a bit of a pain (specially if using encrypted partitions but on the long run it pays off. Sometimes when using OSX I really miss using linux on a daily basis
