here's a weird one but anyone willing to give me their phone number so I can get a verification code texted to you for you to give me so I can pretend to refer you? I need 3 and I love you ahead of time for bumping me ahead in a waiting line for beta access.12

what I like to do when I'm not programming (draw, and also garden)
Can't. stop. creating. things.
what do you guys like to do outside of coding?4 -

when a female feels it's important to clarify that she's female in the middle of a programming discussion. what if males did the same thing?
dev1 - This recursive function just blew up the server, bitch.
dev2 - I'm a dude, bro. don't call me bitch.
commence: miles of much lost productivity.

I drink so much coffee. I sweat coffee. I pee coffee. I probably emit coffee waves into the air and get other people caffeinated. Here's to all of my fellow coffee-emitting programmers!6

I have three sons 5 and under. I made them email addresses I intend for them to use as they age the other day. I used their first initial, last name and the last two digits of their years of birth. In binary. Poor kids. They never had a chance.2

me (20 mins later): found the bug, fixed, tested. btw it was bigger than we thought and affecting all users. shall I push?
cw: not yet, let me look into it.
(next week)
cw: find this (same) bug
me: -.- -
devRant is going to change the stereotype of introverted programmers. Clearly we are not! We just need the right people to talk to :)6
-
The hardest part about writing an app is getting anyone to find it :( on that note, please help? <3
If you have little ones I promise they'll enjoy it! it might even get you an hour or two of quiet coding time.
Tap the top bar on the main menu that says 'My First Puzzles' ten times to get prompted for a secret code (3hfazJUD) to unlock all packs free :)16 -
I think the author of Mythical Man Month would be interested to see how wildly popular devRant has become. Maybe we are all optimists when we start out programming, but once you expose us to clients, PMs and deadlines. Well.. we're going to need somewhere to rant.
(and in case you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading it):
All programmers are optimists. Perhaps this modern sorcery especially attracts those who believe in happy endings and fairy godmothers. Perhaps the hundreds of nitty frustrations drive away all but those who habitually focus on the end goal. Perhaps it is merely that computers are young, programmers are younger, and the young are always optimists. But however the selection process works, the result is indisputable: 'This time it will surely run,' or 'I just found the last bug'
( The Mythical Man Month ).

omg omg omg. I just found out rebrickable has an all inclusive Lego pieces and sets database updated monthly FREE and under a CC license!! And their API is also available for use under CC. And I'm so excited I could pee because this just made it possible for me to jump right in on a personal project I've been wanting to start and my SO/friends just look at me and smile politely when I try to explain to them what a goldmine it is to find a library that does exactly what you need and is free too. So I needed to come somewhere and share my news and know I'd be understood. <38

Time to bare your souls!! Name your 5 most recently used apps, no cheating :)
devRant, Facebook, Dungeon Boss, Play Store, BabyCenter10 -
Our family is Lego obsessed. We have a bunch of sets but can't build any of them because it takes too long to sort them. I've been seriously considered programming an automatic sorter.3

This Android app is my coolest project because I did it on my own and it actually works! Well, my 3 and 5 year old sons think it's the coolest, anyway :)

And sometimes, a recruiter's email gets mistaken for an advertisement to have an affair. #itdoesnthurttolook3

I tried to convince the actual bug that landed in the middle of the code on my screen a few minutes ago to pose with my (AWESOME!!) stickers. He was lonely among my compiling code and took off so you get me instead :)

I'm sitting here at 1 am working on a side project. There's, literally, a bug in my code. It's bed time.9

PSA for anyone wondering if Java is worth learning:

good commit message:
"make improvements to the user interface."
bad commit message:
"made improvements to the user interface"
no, you didn't. it's not deployed yet. your merely SUGGESTING improvements at this point. that's like walking into an interview telling the secretary you already got the job. flushing before you wipe. eating the pizza when it's still frozen. you are way too assumptive about this commit you've just made actually making it to production.
unless you are already on production? well, in that case, your commit message was incorrect. let me amend it for you:
"HOT FIX ALL TEH BUGS!!!11111!!11"4 -
a deprecation *warning*. we IGNORE warnings. if they actually want us to do something about it they need to call it a deprecation error. and also probably prevent compilation. virtual smoking coming from the emulator wouldn't hurt either. if they expect action on these things, they're going to need to do better than warning.2

Conspiracy theory: Google sent rogue pro devs to work for IE and make it so bad everyone would come running to Chrome for a savior.3
-
devranters account registration could include coding knowledge test to keep out snooping PMs? but instead of denying them access on failure it could just silently filter them all to their own channel >:)8

Tunes throughout the work day...
Someone's interrupting:

Working on same bug for hours:
