Lmao I agree with you completely; but that sounds like ssomething a designer would say.
(Disclosure; I'm not in an environment relevant to this rn.) -
C0D4681387yi suppose having a designer that understands at least to a rudimentary level what is actually involved in getting a photoshop design on to the billions of screens out there would be nice.
Since i haven't been blessed with a super designer i accept that the work that goes into those designs to get them to me is a great achievement with the clients always changing there minds every 30 seconds and whinging that something doesn't look exactly right. -
Meta33867yI work as a web dev and we often get to the point where all of us look at a design and start shaking our heads.
Most of time it's because
- stuff isn't usable at all when in a mobile layout,
- the designer lacks the basic understanding of how websites work,
- elements are aligned in a way that would never work out correctly (it's possible but just consumes a lot of time),
- sizing varies a lot on different, random pages
- etc. -
@AnonymousMooCow Actually I studied and then later taught graphic design. I now design and build bespoke websites. (No fucking Wordpress). Occasionally get to build other peoples design, and I have to educate them on certain things, i do wonder if they have ever been on the internet judging by some of the shit they come out with. The problem with graphic designers are they are primarily print based and many can't make the switch. They are too lazy to learn about information architecture, UX and UI, stuff that's essential to designing for web. And then there are others that 'get it'. I'm not talking about respect for shit designers. You can slag them fuckers off all you like.

h4xx3r17167yI have no issue whatsoever, I enjoy R&D of the full stack following UX and UI(I like to deal with CSS manually) designing that do suit the project and looks sane both on mobile and desktop ;)

eskizo2427yI truly respect designers, ux, and even front-end developers. For me what they do is witchcraft I don't understand and love to see when it's done.
Ps: when doing back ends and planning the architecture of the application and setting everything up, for me what I do is also witchcraft but one I understand.
Not necessarily on here, but Devs tend to bitch about designers and their lack of basic dev skills/understanding (talking about webdev). But when devs try to design it usually ends with a horrendous piece of visual garbage. Respect each others profession and the outcomes will be better. That's why Apple is now one of the most envied companies on the planet.
