So we've had a new guy on our team for over 6 months now... Been training him up doing shadowing.... Training courses... Study time... The works...

He didn't have the specific skills for our team but had 2 degrees, lectured at uni... Seems VERY smart......

Yet he still has barely grasped the basics..... When experienced people talk about challenges they've had he tries to suggest what they do... Constantly raising 'problems' with ways of working but offers no solutions and never collaborates on how we can fix it......

He avoids doing practical learning and thinks he can learn the job from reading docs... .. Sigh....

Gone almost as far as doing daily check ups on what he's actually doing to make sure he's progressing..... Tough one to crack!

    Excuse my ignorance, but what is shadowing?

    @theuser it's basically mentoring

    For context... The other people we've brought on have been out doing delivery and client stuff within 3 to 4 months with half of the 'academic' experience but he just to not grasp it... Might need a good kick in the deep end to FINALLY get it....

    @GodHatesMe I agree, sometimes it's best to play to the way someone operates. Especially if time is of the essence.

    @GodHatesMe I bet they weren't taught in the way that fully maximizes their abilities. Think Einstein and the fish.

    @GodHatesMe well funny enough the role is a data analytics role so yep he's being very analytical about the documentation but doesn't seem to get the job
