Genuine question:

What's the most poverty you have experienced? No troll answers please.

I'll tell you mine, I lived in Bangalore in 2018 when I was starting out living in a PG with 2 strangers, and I had to travel like 9 kms to my office, 7 kms by bus and 2 kms walk.

I was walking, listening to music as usual, when I felt uncomfortable with the sunshine burning my skin. So I thought, let me hire an autorickshaw and get to my job. But doing so, will result in no lunch today and if I wasted money on auto and lunch both, I won't have any money for the bus fare.

That feeling was my rock bottom thinking "Holy crap, I'm poor."

That incident is what I compare myself to, sometimes, and I think "Well at least it's not THAT bad."

As a "student" without a job or any support I occasionally just stayed in bed for roughly three days in a row the best I could to save energy and skip meals more easily.
Often getting cold, low on energy, on a lovely summer day, so had to snuggle in the blanky.

I have always had it pretty fortunate, but probably me as a student too. I had to get a warehouse job where I would clock in at 4 am in the mornings and head to classes at like 11 am for classes and then bike back to my apartment at around 7 pm to save gas. Learned some super helpful cheap recipes during that experience.

I had to eat for 2 days with the equivalent of around 3 USD. On another occasion I only had white rice and maple syrup, so I ate maple syrupy rice for 2 or 3 days.

I was never in poverty. But I would think I acted like it when I rented a small section behind a kitchen in a condo unit as my "rental apartment".

Illegal as heck but it was close to school and only 300 dollars a month lol.

Bought expired bread from bakery at closing time for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Didn't save me any money since I ended up paying for exterminator after I brought a colony of bed bugs back to my parents place after finishing that year lol.

The first year of my college, i realised i wanted to be independent and not rely on my parents money for anything. Taught myself programming and started freelancing. Luckily, never felt poor or helpless ever after that. Earned my college fees, personal expenses and a few gifts for parents in 2 years. And today here i am, earning my yearly salary back then in a month

about 2 years without any income at all. At the beginning I had some things in the closet, and some rice... then they stopped my electricity and had to go by the end of the village where ppl grow veggies and fruits. I only had an apple some of the days...

at least I had weed for free back then ;)

I got kicked out of my dad's house when I was in college. My buddy took me in, but he charged rent. Rent was 300/mth, and I was getting a $400/mth orphan benefit cheque to help with school (mom passed a few years earlier).

Of course my girlfriend decided to move in with me too, so we had $100/mth for food, travel, and fun for 2 people.

I mooched rides and ate ramen noodles and eggs until I graduated. Then moved across the country for work, and started building a career.
