plusgut60377yJust be sure you subscribe to the mailinglist or always read the newssection, before you update. Pacman has the possibility to destroy your system. But other then that, it's great.
-
karwler7427yI recommend manjaro since it's pretty much the same except it's much less of a pain in the ass
-
Froot75567y@plusgut That's a huuuuuuuge problem. How can you trust your is if it can blow up at any moment?
-
plusgut60377y@Froot well, I maybe overstated that.. if you use pacman without force, it will do no harm. But you shouldn't be arrogant, as I was back then, and use --force.
Arch was going to a change where it moved /usr/bin to /bin and you had to do some commands before you run the packagemanager.. well I didn't know about that before. -
Froot75567y@plusgut That seems like alot of work for an OS. I mean, I just want it to work, I dont want to fiddle with it constantly.
Maybe I'll hold out on switching to arch for a bit longer... -
plusgut60377y@Froot then arch is not the right system for you. If you just want it to work, imho use debian.
-
Froot75567y@plusgut Yea probably. I'm on Ubuntu gnome at the moment. Will probably stick with it for a while (well regular Ubuntu after next release)
-
karwler7427y@kolaente that's antergos. manjaro is it's own thing but it has all the things that arch has
-
watzon46247yI couldn't help but have the thought: "Closed as 'primarily opinion based' by a moderator".
Fucking StackOverflow 😒 -
awnumar2937y@plusgut rebels don't live by the rules
rebels use force as the standard
rebels just want to see the world burn -
plusgut60377y@awnumar Sorry I can't follow your train of thought. Why do you think I am a rebel, or why I should be one?
-
If you like arch but are lazy and don't want to install from the terminal install Antergos. Antergos is practically just arch with their mirrors added. Manjaro is based on arch but has their mirrors that aren't as updated. Pacman is a great package manager so. If you want pacman go with either of those

Should I switch to arch?
I really like its idea of being a rolling release distro.
Currently on elementary os after trying various other ubuntus and Debian (and using them some time)
