What do you guys think?50 -
Finally got around to installing Arch on an actual machine 😀
I went for deepin since i wanted to try something new. I didn't go for any WMs since the whole concept seems complicated to me but i wanna look into it someday.
Anyways, super happy so far. I boot in < 5s from hitting the power button which is super dope ♥️ ♥️. I did have some weirdness with nvidia drivers (as usual on linux lol) but reinstalling it fixed it.40 -
So I recently started discarding Proxmox for Arch on my experimental server.. new skill acquired 🙃13
-
Surprise, a "user" maintained repository, is able to host malware, shocker.

I was 12 years old and it was my first freelance.
I was taking a Web Designer course and my teacher offered me an “opportunity”. He asked me to develop a search engine for a real estate website.
I did it pretty quickly with PHP and MySQL. The amount offered was U$ 20.00 (yeah, I know, it sucks, but it was a good chance to earn experience).
3 months went by, it was the last week of the course and he still hadn’t payed me yet!
End of story: my dad and a couple friends went to the school and had a conversation with him. They said things like: man, you shouldn’t ruin a kid’s dream for twenty dollars. I’m sure he only payed me because he was scared haha8 -
That moment when installing arch...need wifi drivers to access internet and need internet to install wifi drivers 😢9

Me: doing light browsing.
CPU Fan: increases frequency like crazy.
Me: opens task manager.
Windows 10: 60% cpu usage.
Me: sort processes by cpu usage; sum does not match.
Me: closes iTunes update window.
CPU usage: drops to less than 10%.
The update had already finished and the CPU usage was 60%!!!
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, APPLE?3 -
I was joking with my colleague what is the best comment for this if hell.
And now my boss send me this 🤣🤣🤣8 -
Finally, after 3 tries and lots of experimentation, I have set up the arch system. I am in "deep" love with deepin desktop environment.
P.S. - Still finding a good web browser though firefox sucks so bad right now plus the fonts are super bad.14 -
Me: wow in really starting to love arch Linux, feels good to be away from Ubuntu!
Ubuntu: Yo! 18.04 is here!
Also me:3 -
I've been a lurker for a long time. However, I decided to make an account to let you guys know I use Arch. Thank you for your time.10
-
*sees people on Facebook wanting to get Linux certificates*
Me: naah that's not how I'ma do it
*at le job interview*
Interviewer: "So you apply as a sysadmin.. what are your skills? Certificates?"
Me: "No certificates sir.. but I USE ARCH LINUX 😎"
Me (quietly): "and Ubuntu Server too but that's not as cool :v"10 -
Yessss. Took me a few tries throughout the day but I successfully installed arch linux on my laptop :D Any good desktop environment recommendations?27
-
Thank you Arch Linux community for saying that caring about security (i.e. expressing concerns about NSA's Speck being included as a module in Arch's distribution kernel) means that you're a tinfoil hat. Much trust, very wow! Nothing to hide, nothing to fear.. right?16
-
Recently started using Arch after a year of distro hopping starting from Ubuntu, to Fedora, to Mint, to Opensuse. I have never been as satisfied with a distro as I have with Arch. I have learnt so much from just fiddling and reading through the archwiki.
Once you go Arch you don't go back.41 -
Got arch Linux working on my laptop.
Installed Budgie GNOME, Cairo dock, Termite, VS Code, Code::Blocks, Android Studio, IntelliJ....
It's so beautiful9 -
I did it ma! I installed Arch Linux! On a pendrive!! First try too! Now I just have to slowly add things I need and configure it slowly.. Goodbye weekend :')3
-
This is real. I Used to hop distros like a mad man and I stopped hopping after installing arch and started hopping between desktop environments and window managers. Source: r/linuxmastrrrace17

Arch users are literally like vegans, or guys who study the law - they can’t live normally if they don’t tell you that they use it. Just because you can install it, doesn’t make you instantly a Linux god. It’s like Kali users that they think that they’re hackers if they install it, or MacBook users that think that they are “kool kids” because they have a laptop that thousands of other people have.
Nobody. Cares.14 -
Blender animation playback under
Windows - 9.1 fps
Arch - 10.6 fps
Impressive! Both are too slow to be usable (curse my shitty laptop) but hey, I'll gladly take that 1.5 fps improvement.4 -
Just switched my girlfriend's laptop from Ubuntu 16.04 to Arch. Every single glitch and issue we were having is gone. She's even got some buttery smooth Wayland going.13

So im trying to learn to install arch Linux and it's safe to say... I have no fucking clue what in doing :-D11

Mojang released the minecraft official launcher for Gnu/linux, and they fucking have an Arch package! That’s right motherfuckers: AN ARCH PACKAGE!5
-
So what do you guys do when you're bored?
My friends : Browse Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, read some blogs maybe..
Me : Browse through the Arch Linux wiki... I mean,... you know Twitter, Reddit, the usual..6 -
Telling an Arch beginner to try Gentoo is same as telling someone who switched from Java to C to try assembly.7
-
Let's make a challenge:
If we put a vegan and an Arch user on the same room. which one will talk first announcing that he's vegan/using arch??14 -
"Time to install Arch Linux!"
*8 hours later*
"Back to Open Suse!"
Repeat every 4-5 months.
Seriously, I would LOVE to get Arch running on my laptop, but everytime I try to something goes wrong, be it bootloader, audio, cooptimus drivers, undetected network card, window manager going crazy, etc etc etc... and I simply end giving up and reinstalling my backup.
Someday, Arch, someday...5 -
I am a windows user but just wanted to say arch linux .. it just sounds nice
hey, I'm going to arch linux for a bit
what are you doing? I'm arching linux
hey, stop arching with my linux
btw, is it pronounced ark or arch?4 -
Woke up to see this, okay arch fanbois we get it, you're supreme with an is which is difficult to install and after achieving it you become the most supreme11

Wow compiling kernel for linux tablet on arch linux machine booted with ubuntu 16.04 LTS I will be really suprised if it will build kernel and will work

Ok I give up. I concede. I can't take one more second of trying to get ANY window manager to run under Arch with an Nvidia GPU.
Back to Debian it is...20 -

First time installing Linux on desktop, I’ve decided for Arch because I wanna learn. Skimmed through official guide, looks hard.
So exciting, I love computers!10 -

Creating a custom arch Linux live usb.
Need install media with lts kernel and thought I'd go full hog with x/i3 and some of my apps/configs.
Wish me luck.8 -
Step 1: Download archlinux.iso
Step 2: realise your worthlessness
Step 3: Newborn awe for arch users.
Step 4: Ubuntu????
Just kidding though. Not giving up till system breaks atleast 7 times..😑7 -
A dollar or a peso is a certain amount of work stored in a piece of paper. You need to work to get them or have other people work for you. When governments print new money and push it into circulation they reduce what you were compensated with for the work you did. Essentially they are taking your wealth (spending power) away without you even realizing. It is a modestly sophisticated form of theft. When public companies issue new shares onto the market they are doing same thing by reducing the percentage of the company you own. This is why you will see non-inflationary assets such as Bitcoin, land, gold bars and gold ETFs, etc. continue to rise in value and certainly outpace inflation. It’s because people who are smart with money are fearful of holding cash and they are looking for a safe place to store it. If you are not afraid of holding substantial amounts of cash, then I suppose you don’t really understand what it is. There is a reason why they don’t teach teenagers about inflation in any country of the world. As long as the masses are focused on earning and saving fiat, governments have so much more power and control. If you remove all of the fiat from circulation, then we will revert to a barter/trading system which would substantially reduce government power, at that point they would only maintain control using physical force, which is a lot more challenging to carry out. #btc #gold #rant #av40

Currently installing Arch Linux on my old machine ^^ Gonna revive it as a secondary machine I'll do some stuff on. Maybe. Perhaps.9
-
Cool, I got psx working great on arch :D Took a lot of tweaking but so far the graphics aren't too terrible and no popcorn sound xD which is surprising given the old hardware I'm using.3
-
Just got one refurbished laptop (x220)
Going to install Arch (first time). Let's see how well it goes :-)4 -
Ordinary people brag about something they did in sports or somethin else boring they
did in their living.
Tech geeks brag about finally succeeding in installing Arch Linux.1 -
Finally got arch back up and running on the laptop after trying out ubuntu & manjaro dual boot for a while. Decided to use LARBS config's files and I gotta say this is pretty beautiful, it's nice to be back.6
-
Really can't be bothered with installing arch Linux manually... I feel dirty downloading antergos :-/23

Professional .NET Developer here:
After years of using Windows and C# for everything at work and at home, I finally switched yesterday from Windows 10 to Arch and from C# to Python for my hobby projects. Feels good!2 -
Tired of installing Arch, I've made a script to automatize the installation. I'm going to upload it later. :DDD3
-
Why do people suggest using arch when they have many ready to go distros.....?
I've heard that chances for breaking the whole system is high and is risky...21 -
At first, I was skeptical and somewhat resilient of trying Arch Linux. As a former Debian based distros user, I have to say : once you go Arch you don't go back! Time to 🍚 it up a bit more!6
-
I use arch?rant i am a poser i actually just use manjaro love you all not really a rant i use arch i use arch linux4

Yesterday evening I installed Arch Linux and switched to Vim. I had my first spontaneous full body orgasm.4

Well, it took me 7 hours but I finally made it.
I have a functional Arch Linux installation on my new laptop.
oh except the audio fails from time to time but it'll work eventually
and my hard disk starts clicking whenever I reboot even though I keep disabling its "power management"
and for fucks sake will you please mount my usb when i tell you to
and my touchpad doesn't work
but I can code and play games on it so whatever it's functional10 -
Found this aluminum Arch Linux sticker on Etsy. I'm sure some of you will enjoy it. I thinking of ordering a few myself.

I just saw people speaking about arch linux. Seems like there is not a lot of people using arch here. So I may be the only one on Gentoo? :'(11
-
Simplest ways are the best - I've choosen Arch for my old computer which is meant to run Kodi. Works like a charm 😍
-
Today my ssd showed up, and since i have got my school pc back. And now "own" it, i finally have set up linux on it :)
Works (pretty) fine alongside the windows disk as well.
Man i am so excited for this😀😅
Decided to go with Antergos this time, as i wanted Arch, but didn't want to install it myself, not on my daily. -
When you love and use arch-linux based distros but everyone that does support linux only seems to know about ubuntu...4
-
Is using Arch Linux the nerd equivalent of being vegan?
Like they have to mention it to everyone.
Btw I use Arch and am vegan.4 -
So I tried installing arch today. Spent all day trying to fix grub to be able to boot arch,Ubuntu and windows along with Intel microcode working on both arch and Ubuntu. But alas , I could not succeed and I cannot boot into Ubuntu now. I am going to reinstall Ubuntu tomorrow and leave arch for sometime later.3
-
These ignorant comments about arch are starting to get on my nerves.
You ranted or asked help about something exclusive to windows and someone pointed out they don't have that problem in arch and now you're annoyed?
Well maybe it's for good.
Next comes a very rough analogy, but imagine if someone posts "hey guys, I did a kg of coke and feeling bad, how do I detox?"
It takes one honest asshole to be like "well what if you didn't do coke?".
Replace the coke with windows.
Windows is a (mostly) closed source operating system owned by a for profit company with a very shady legal and ethical history.
What on earth could possibly go wrong?
Oh you get bsod's?
The system takes hours to update whenever the hell it wants, forces reboot and you can't stop it?
oh you got hacked because it has thousands of vulnerabilities?
wannacry on outdated windows versions paralyzed the uk health system?
oh no one can truly scrutinize it because it's closed source?
yet you wonder why people are assholes when you mention it? This thing is fucking cancer, it's hundreds of steps backwards in terms of human progress.
and one of the causes for its widespread usage are the savage marketing tactics they practiced early on. just google that shit up.
but no, linux users are assholes out to get you.
and how do people react to these honest comments? "let's make a meme out of it. let's deligitimize linux, linux users and devs are a bunch of neckbeards, end of story, watch this video of rms eating skin off his foot on a live conference"
short minded idiots.
I'm not gonna deny the challenges or limitations linux represents for the end user.
It does take time to learn how to use it properly.
Nvidia sometimes works like shit.
Tweaking is almost universally required.
A huge amount of games, or Adobe/Office/X products are not compatible.
The docs can be very obscure sometimes (I for one hate a couple of manpages)
But you get a system that:
* Boots way faster
* Is way more stable
* Is way way way more secure.
* Is accountable, as in, no chance to being forced to get exploited by some evil marketing shit.
In other words, you're fucking free.
You can even create your own version of the system, with total control of it, even profit with it.
I'm not sure the average end user cares about this, but this is a developer forum, so I think in all honesty every developer owes open source OS' (linux, freebsd, etc) major respect for being free and not being corporate horseshit.
Doctors have a hippocratic oath? Well maybe devs should have some form of oath too, some sworn commitment that they will try to improve society.
I do have some sympathy for the people that are forced to use windows, even though they know ideally isn't the ideal moral choice.
As in, their job forces it, or they don't have time or energy to learn an alternative.
At the very least, if you don't know what you're talking about, just stfu and read.
But I don't have one bit of sympathy for the rest.
I didn't even talk about arch itself.
Holy fucking shit, these people that think arch is too complicated.
What in the actual fuck.
I know what the problem is, the arch install instructions aren't copy paste commands.
Or they medium tutorial they found is outdated.
So yeah, the majority of the dev community is either too dumb or has very strong ADD to CAREFULLY and PATIENTLY read through the instructions.
I'll be honest, I wouldn't expect a freshman to follow the arch install guide and not get confused several times.
But this is an intermediate level (not megaexpert like some retards out there imply).
Yet arch is just too much. That's like saying "omg building a small airplane is sooooo complicated". Yeah well it's a fucking aerial vehicle. It's going to be a bit tough. But it's nowhere near as difficult as building a 747.
So because some devs are too dumb and talk shit, they just set the bar too low.
Or "if you try to learn how to build a plane you'll grow an aviator neckbeard". I'll grow a fucking beard if I want too.
I'm so thankful for arch because it has a great compromise between control and ease of install and use.
When I have a fresh install I only get *just* what I fucking need, no extra bullshit, no extra programs I know nothing about or need running on boot time, and that's how I boot way faster that ubuntu (which is way faster than windows already).
Configuring nvidia optimus was a major pain in the ass? Sure was, but I got it work the way I wanted to after some time.
Upgrading is also easy as pie, so really scratching my brain here trying to understand the real difficult of using arch.22 -
TIL that you have to run Arch on everything including servers in order to be considered a competent system administrator19
-
Finally decided to give Arch Linux a go on hardware.
I've never had so much fun installing a distro before.
I chose Deepin as the desktop environment, it's fucking beautiful.
(I somehow didn't really take to i3, I prefer a full blown environment like Deepin).
Since it's my first time using Arch and Deepin, do you guys have any advice? How you like to use and maintain Arch? Any tips? Productivity hacks? (Besides a tiling WM)3 -
Actuall live footage of me trying to install and configure VMware to work on arch at the moment...
(I might be a little fucking frustrated)8 -
Bumblebee Status, as requested in https://devrant.com/rants/2248495/...
Arch Linux, i3 wm, bumblebee-status. i3 config open in window.
Can't wait to bloat it up even more with a pomodoro timer and custom stuff!
(music: Bach: Prelude and Fugue No 11 from The Well Tempered Clavier Book 2, played by Walter Giesking, so highbrow lol)3 -
I've every been a Arch Linux fag. It's my main OS from 5 years. With a small parenthesis of two months of FreeBSD recently, I've used before Arch Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Fedora KDE, OpenSolaris (randomly), CentOs, plus a lot of others distro for tests.
But I've never tested Debian!
So I've installed it on my small server.
Oh... My... God.... It's fantastic. PACMAN >>> apt, but damn it's really stable and out of the box even if minimal. A very surprise. I think it can be my favorite remote Linux for a long time....
But a question rises. Why with a father like Debian... Ubuntu after the 11.04 is such a shame? The last I've tested is the 12.04 I think, but I've hated it, and I hate it even now. (Crash, driver not found, apt problem, very heavy repos and my internet sucks, UNITY, etc...)
Ubuntu, what happened to you ...? With Kubuntu 8 you were such a good guy...4 -
Rant about my stupidity.
*Deep breath*
For a full day I've been trying to get the desktop environment on my fresh Arch installation working(on a spare laptop).
Guess what? I was running startx instead of startxfce4 and wondering why isn't xfce4 starting.
Guess I have more such stupid acts to be encountered.3 -
Arch linux, iscript.sh
----------------------------------------------
#/bin/bash
mkdir /tmpdir
arch-chroot /tmpdir
pacman -S base
wget https://path-to-scri.pt/
bash iscript.sh5 -
Fuck arch.
I know what you're thinking
"arch isn't that bad he's overreacting"
WELL I'M NOT OVERREACTING!
Thanks to me trying to install Arch i cant get my laptop to boot. It just say some thing about network boot failing. I cant go into BIOS either. It doesn't work! I cant even boot from usb!! It still just say some thing about network boot failing, shows some weird black screen with a black bar at the top left and after a while shows some thing about network boot failing again and that repeats9 -
After the base installation of arch linux..I am trying to install the display server,Nvidia driver.and i3 wm...but getting errors..
Shall I install Display server xorg after or before the installation of Nvidia drivers??
What is the proper way to configure xorg and Nvidia?
When I give the startx command it is showing black screen....
@deadlyRants18 -
You know you're bored when you boot up a random arch iso and just start seeing how fast you can break an install .-.4
-
Seriously though.
Why use Arch. It sounds like headaches.
What is the benefit. Like, I used to have fun with
tweaking systems and so forth, until it became
not so fun when I had to actually do it to make
money, like server admin on my websites.
From the sounds of it, setting it up takes hours, none of the packages are quite ready, it takes google research and troubleshooting for common tasks, etc.
Why not say, Ubuntu, kde? Or whatever.13 -
Stop recommending arch
Start recommending arch wiki
These nerds spend so much stuff in their system that every weird shit and behaviour is there7 -
Ah. The joy of installing arch fills through my veins...
I so did not miss installing it twice just to get it correctly installed... But m addicted!
FML2 -
Just installed Arch for my first time. Using lxde right now but sadly theres now way I can rotate my 2nd monitor (since I have it vertical). What desktop environments do you guys use? Should be lightweight/fast/not many animations and shit.14
-
I have a lot of free time now so time to move from Debian-based to Arch-based distro :D
I simply can't choose so I just picked up Antergos. Heard a good thing or two about Manjaro but eh for now let's just randomly pick.
Once I get familiar with this, probably will move to Arch Linux itself.2 -
Nah I'll quickly fix my arch installation, can't take that long...
- my brain at 12pm (about half an hour ago)
Plottwist: I didn't fuck up the whole system and it's booting again.
I didn't expect that myself -
someone asked for a stable nix distro, and i noticed too many google hits that recommend _arch_
do they not know what stable means?
stab-le, as in running consistently and not crashing. updating without any bullshit and breaking.
why is arch #1 on so many list?
gtfo. what is wrong with you people!?!?!17 -
I have a gaming laptop with a 125gb ssd and 1 TB secondary drive. Ssd has just 20 GB free.
I wanna dual boot windows 10 and arch. Most of the secondary drive is full of steam games. Win 10 for gaming and arch is for projects.
What's a good way to partition the drives for arch? I can't guess how much space either will need in the future. And what do I do with the other drive?7 -
TL;DR: Fuck fucking Arch fucking Linux. Gentoo. Yay or nay?
So over the last few days my arch install has gone to hell. A small install of a package brings up some other update as it needs an updated version, then shit starts to segfault. I've been compiling anything and everything from sources rather than using pacman, and it works great. My DE has an issue with animations and does a FULL FUCKING KERNEL PANIC when I as simple as change what virtual desktop I focus. I'm genuinely so fucking done with Arch and I wish to change. I'm not touching Ubuntu with a 10 foot pole, nor any other Debian shit, so I'm wondering whether Gentoo might be it. Anyone got experience with it? Worth a shot for an experienced linux user?12 -
Last weak I tried to use Linux Arch on my VM. The only Linux distribution I'm used to is Ubuntu and the fist time I launched Arch I completely forgot that it was " do it yourself ". And that the ISO isn't actually a fancy installer like the Ubuntu one.
So I started following a guide and found out that the arch wiki is actually the way to go.
I searched for 1 hour how to change the keyboard to swiss-french which was actually pretty simple.
After that exhausting research that made me realise how ignorant I am with UNIX universe, I finally tried to install the thing.
When I was done installing, it didn't want to boot after I restarted. I got stuck at the 'Booting...' screen. After a few tries I lost all my energy and motivation.
Tl;dr: Tried Arch Linux, realised I had no idea, gave up after a few tries5 -
Can anyone tell me what all things a developer should follow in order to be upto date. It's just too long of a thing.
I have been a back end developer, became a big data developer, then moving to becoming a full stack developer. Now I don't know who I am anymore. -
So I think I'm gonna give vscode another chance. I've heard so many good things about it, maybe I just didnt use it long enough. Let's see how well it works in arch xD2
-
Guys, I have something to say. I've used Arch Linux since probably a couple months after I started using Linux. But today, I'm going to install Fedora on my PC. It's my gaming rig at this point (that really needs some upgrades), and it seems like Steam breaks on Arch every week.
With that system, at this point I want something I can just install, do some tweaking, and go.
Anyone have any other distro suggestions for a gaming rig?7 -
If you are using arch and are making packages from the aur all I can say is use makepkg -s because then it will install all the dependencies for you.
Yay6 -
Tonight I spent 5 hours installing arch. After seeing everything go smoothly I do the final reboot, only to watch the grub command line appear on the screen. I tried to boot into my arch installation but it kept talking about kernels missing and stuff. I thought I learned a ton but Fuck me. Now I'm installing neon kde just so I have my fucking linux desktop ready. Maybe someday I'll make it...3
-
I've been using ubuntu for more than 2 years now and would like to know why arch is so popular. What advantages does it have over other popular distros?7
-
I'm the maintainer of the Godot Engine package in AUR, some users have commented on the package that they would like to see it in the community repo of Arch Linux, but I have no idea how that is done.
Any pointers?8 -
Today, i set up my first pure-Arch environment and I can say,
It's freaking awesome.
Sure, its more difficult to use than Ubuntu, but damn, its really just the system I want.3 -
Company's main server got an upgrade and I am installing the new one from scratch now.
The new server hoster has custom images and CDRoms. One of them is called "Arch Linux"...
I... I am very attempted! -
Just installed arch on my laptop...
I've always been a Debian guy before so blimey that install was painful but I'm glad I've done it.
I then installed sddm, for some reason it seems to be an old version maybe? I was expecting the look of sddm you get in kubuntu, any ideas?3 -
https://hackernoon.com/how-it-feels...
After reading this post, I am so confused what to with this life. I thought of becoming a full stack developer. After reading it, I am thinking, is this I want to do with my life. How many libraries, frameworks, technologies and languages should I learn.
Getting confused what to do now. Grrrr...2 -
I'm actually setting up a server that's supposed to have a very good uptime with Arch Linux
ha
I use Arch btw13 -
What the fucking shit, Arch. In what universe/reality is a user expected to easily/quickly address GPG/PGP bullshit when they install Arch. It's already hilarious enough as it is for the user to input every single command in order to install the thing. -- That's actually what's great about Arch; you get return and assurance from each command. -- I understood the fact that you need the latest ISO release in order to even install Arch, but now, if you decide to pacstrap linux-hardened, or god forbid, a package that is who knows what, less maintained?... fuck knows what will happen.
The fantastic part, is that you can't do shit when you're in an arch ISO install. All of the simple and possible solutions that involve GPG DBs/keyrings/etc require you to have the all of the shit installed already; which is fucking impossible if the package manager is bitching about keys not being imported. The most fantastic part, is that there is probably some complete bullshit, ultra-exclusive command or simple solution that will fix this crap. - And if you even dare ask the Arch forums, you'll be branded as a "newbie" and sentenced to read the fucking wiki. - ??? -- That's not a fucking good thing. -- The majority of people who are installing Arch right now, are people who are installing it for the first time, and chances are, most of those people have no fucking clue what is happening; they're learning what is happening. Furthermore, they're probably the kind of people who aren't inclined (or they don't know how) to scour Google or the Arch forums for answers to vague, lazy-ass error messages. The whole point of this thing is show and confront the user about what they're installing and what they want on their computer. Holy shit. This is all the more reason to ensure that total, stupid, ambiguous bullshit errors do not occur. -- "error: key "dogshit master <dogshitmaster@dogshit.org>?" could not could not be imported". -- That's it. That's the error in it's entirety. For a fucking OS install. What the fuck.15 -
I just love antergos, haven't updated in like a month, because wasn't using my laptop as much, booted it up, ~200 package updates, it failed because one file needed to be deleted as per announcements (I now subbed to those) and all updates cleanly went through.
Last time I didn't update a week on arch, it broke ~6 core packages and my dm, never thought I'd be on a pretty much arch release, but without the actual bleeding edge issues. -
I want to buy an old computer and start playing with Linux Arch. Sounds like a lot of fun and frustration at the same time... I'm so excited!1

So today my colleague is installing new dependency to our react native project and do something cool with it.
Him: I already push it in new branch and make a pr, would you review and merge it to master.
Me: ok let me try first.
.
.
Me: it is not working, i get this error.
Him: try change these xxx in xcode.
Me: ok, wait.
.
.
Me: now I get this error
Him: hmm... Try 'react-native link xxxx'
Me: ok
.
.
Me: I get same error like first error.
Him: now try 'react-native unlink xxxx'
Me: hmm... Wait.
.
.
Me: I still get same error, what's wrong?
Him: I don't know, it's working in my mechine .
*Me 'git reset - - hard' and try to build again.
**After building
Me: hey it's working after I git reset lol.
Him: nice
Me: let me clone it and try 1 more time.
*after cloning and building
.
.
Me: I still get same error like 1st error hahaha.
Him: so try to 'react-native link xxx' again.
Me: OKkK
.
.
Me: still get same error
Him: try git reset and build again
Me: hmm
.
.
*after git reset and build again
Me: I still get same error. I think the correct steps is :
1. Clone
2. Do something in xcode
3. React native link
4. React native unlink
5. Git reset - - hard
6. Build
I can't stop laughing 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂 -
Failed installing Arch Linux....tried installing it three times
But at every boot what I get is Black screen with the cursor (underscore) blinking on it
I followed their official installation guide
Do anyone know how to resolve this problem?15 -
Serious question, looking for actual educational answers: I've used Linux for around 5 years now, but what, from a practical user standpoint, makes Arch so much "better" than other distros, as many seem to believe?5
-
I've installed Arch on my laptop that I've had since 7th grade. (cause I wanted to try it out, windows stills runs fine on an ssd) I feel like Arch has taught me a lot about how Linux actually works to some extent.
But that's boring stuff, I run minecraft better on Arch than I do on windows :D. I can even host and play at the same time while it still being playable -
Been using linux for long time and now moving to mac. I must say I really miss windows blue screen 🤧4
-
So I have null, null, null and null message(sms) quota 🤔
* Who still use sms in 2017? Well I still use it11 -
I'm discovering all I can configure with Arch... just figured to tell you, since if I don't do it doesn't count, right?...1
-
Well i fucking hate my life right now.. I had a running arch linux installation with i3 as my windows manager.. dont need a desktop environment.. i don't know what i've done but it doesnt boot anymore..
Guess i will reinstall it8 -
The unix shell syntax is weird looking.
Gonna learn it next. Using Arch without knowing how some scripts work isn't optimal.1 -
So it seems that my experience with arch keeps me coming back to the arch linux newbies corner site xD I guess that says it all. On the plus side, I'm learning a lot 😊
-
Riddle me this: (Arch) Whenever network connection is lost, NetworkManager freezes for a good 10s. Neither nmcli nor nmtui nor client applications get anything back from it during this time. After that 10s, it detects that the connection was lost and continues normal operation.12
-
I should do school work.. But instead.. I'm attempting to install Arch on my other laptop :D first issue.. Can't even boot 💿
Gonna be fun5 -
About Linux distro.
I've been using Ubuntu for about two/three years now. I'm feel rather comfortable with Linux, but am not quite sure I'm at Arch level yet. What distro would you recommend for a mid-level Linux lover?10 -
At the risk of starting a war I have to ask...
Should I use Ubuntu or Arch and why? I've always used Ubuntu but have seen a lot of people talking about Arch. Maybe it's time to make the jump?17 -
I had a long weekend so am installing Arch from scratch! Super fun but hard to get wifi working...3
-
Just finished installing arch linux on my notebook. Using kde plasma 5 but no it doesnt scale properly on my 4k screen3

How do you fit QA inside the weekly sprint?
At the end of a sprint, the team should be able to give something deliverable such as a new release.
How could the developers team integrate their work with the QA team along this week?
I mean, should we test individual features with QA as soon as they’re merged or make a pre-release test with all new features together before releasing? Develop 80% of the time and reserve last 20% for tests?
Could you share something or recommend any links?3 -
I've just fucked up my ssh config on one of my arch VM... Had to destroy it and make a new one ...
Fml -
Should I switch to arch?
I really like its idea of being a rolling release distro.
Currently on elementary os after trying various other ubuntus and Debian (and using them some time)22 -
God, I wish there was a hybrid distro, between Debian and arch.
A big as fuck repo and update-alternatives like in Debian, but with pacman and makepkg.
Oh, and without systemd.5 -
friend: what os do you use?
me: arch linux
friend: what de do you use?
me: i3-gaps
friend: what editor do you use?
me: vim
friend: what file manager do you use?
* thinking i will say ranger *
me: vim-fs
...
friend: what browser do you use?
me: chromium+vimium
and that's when he lost his mind.10 -
Why am I so curious?
You are always talking about Arch linux. Well, I got a second hand (very old) laptop to use as a backup, as I am going to working from home and I just have a desktop pc. So I decided to install Arch on it just to know how does it works. After this first experience, I would change it to a lubuntu (I am talking about a Celeron with 2GB RAM).
Well... I managed to install Arch. It is up and running. Lot's of problems to fix yet, sound, native wifi (I am using a wifi adapter that just works on any linux distro) etc but I am fucking in love with Arch! And I can't use it to work, as it is very unstable and I really need everything always up and running to work. I cannot have any glitch with the computer or I can lose a deadline.4 -
Why is there so much hate towards Manjaro Linux and so much love towards Antergos ? I mean, it's still Arch, right ?
It's just that Manjaro has its own repos but you can still use AUR.5 -
Definitely ricing.
Trying wms other than i3 on Arch Linux. Looking things to customize and feel awesome eventually.3 -
I've recently found out that you can have Arch on termux! It's amazing!
I'm currently installing pantheon to it! -
Feel strange when I see recommended rant's and they are about someone trying install something (generally using the lord and saviour tux's best distro, arch) and having issues when I'm sitting here and just did it through pacman with no issues whatsoever... I might just be lucky I think...5
-
Successfully upgraded my Arch Linux system without breaking any software.
It's a good start for today.5 -
Any react native or godot dev here? I just want to ask a question, is macbook air good enough for react native and godot development?
Good enough for react native is it can open xcode, vscode, chrome, and ios simulator at same time without any problems. And for godot, I don't know I never use godot before 😁 but I really want to make a game using godot.11 -
Fire at work place.
Normal People: Immediately run from the gate.
Programmer: Git add, Git commit, Git Push, realize fire on the gate, jump from the window.1 -
I'm setting up my Linux environment
This is what I'm thinking:
Dual boot: Arch(anarchy)/windows 10
Linux:
Xmonad ->
Parths terminal deploy ->
Vim ->
Snipmate,
NERDTree
Suggestions?4 -
Linux, you never fail to amaze me!
Started using Arch based Manjaro with xfce de couple of months ago. Everything was mostly fine even though I've never used anything that was based on Arch but it had a learning curve.
Couple of weeks ago I couldn't update my packages, I thought it would fix it by itself but I was wrong as you already probably know.
So yesterday I tried to manually fix it. Famous last words. After a lot of googling, trying some terminal commands - and failing, I see a warning labek on some text on the arch wiki - sudo pacman -Syi --force. I said fuck it and did it. Let's see if it works, I try to install a package, I mistype the name, press backspace - it puts a space instead of deleting?!?!?
I tried restarting, googling - nothing...
Guess I'll switch back to Debian based OSes.5 -
Currently attempting to install Arch Linux for the first time in a VM... because I'm bored. As a Pop!_OS user, I am actually starting to miss my graphical installers.
-
Ayyy, spent an hour installing arch, another with the desktop environment and another cause the audio and a whole other set of problems came up. Safe to say was the most frustrating yet the most satisfying install. If only all installations weren't a boring point and click.1
-
Tried installing Arch the whole day... Always crashing at the booting sequence due to nouveau failure. "Pointer to TDMS table invalid" and "Pointer to flat panel table invalid"... Can't even login into the shell.
Fuck this shit... Has anyone tried Devuan? -
Cheating and using Arch-anywhere for my first foray into Arch after 3 hours of manual confit and computer failing over.4

Anyone who got the latest photoshop version running properly on arch Linux? If so, how? I wonder if it works well on wine?3

Entered into Arch club recently.
I've installed i3-gaps on my arch but looks very bad.
What I am missing?🤔10 -
I just got a nice 240GB SSD and I'm puzzled by a thing: should I dual boot it with Windows 7 and Linux Arch?
I'm only keeping the windows for the games that "obsesses" me (was thinking of having a small 60GB partition for Windows, since I can barely play any games on my Sony Vaio) and I'm spending the rest of my time programming. But also I would have time for more things if I give up gaming on Windows (like reading, jogging)... I do not know what you do... My heart says Arch only but my mind says Windows also... what would you do? -
In the beginning there was Vanilla that generate HTML which felt in love with CSS .....it passes a long time thus this pure essences creates a lot of frameworks and libraries thus the time has passed and Angular make love with React saying each other "I LoVue" and thus generate Vue.... a Vue-tiful creature 😄1
-
Day 1 . Change of my PC from laptop to PC. All ok
Day 2 . My work place chief says me they order me a new SSD... Damn I've just done the installation of ARCH.
Day 3 . I reinstall ARCH on the SSD drive leaving the old HD as home partition..
Last day a collegue says me to leave the home partition on SSD and linking the permanent forlders on the old HD...
Never ending story... -
I have worked for a company where almost everyone want to leave that place. People receive gifts to compensate for being underpaid (dinners, chocolates, shirts) etc. Now they’ve just got GPTW certified. What a fuck? I can’t believe in these surveys and rankings anymore.1

Good arch based security/privacy distros? I only know about BlackArch. Are there any good alternatives that are also pretty userfriendly for everyday work/development tasks?4
-
I was thinking of switching from Antergos to Arch but im afraid i cant keep track of all the software i have. Is there any way to easily keep track of all software you have when switching os?2

Soon I'll reinstall my linux system. (Currently Antergos + KDE). People keep mentioning arch, i3, and rice. I wanna give it a try. Any suggestions or hints you guys can give me beforehand?2

The moment you install arch Linux on vm, and you are faced with a terminal with no idea what to do.. #helpmearchmasters5

Why is Arch User Repository considered as a strong point for Arch and Arch-based distros? is it more reliable than the way Ubuntu manages packages? is it ok to trust some guy that made a version of a program you need to run? why most of the programs that have a linux version are only available for Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora (made by their own developers)?14
-
I was thinking about installing Linux on my laptop and I was reading about the various distros for beginners and I came across Arch Linux, it seems not to be liked by this comunity. Why is it? What distro would be better?11
-
As somebody who is used to Ubuntu (I just love the simplicity of just running an apt-get to download packages), should I switch to Arch?
Please only give factual reasons, not just "yes, cus it's arch"6 -
Before installing Arch Linux, I failed to see why I'd use it over Ubuntu.
After installing Arch Linux, still have no idea why I'd use it over Ubuntu.
(Still using and loving it though, after 3+ months.)1 -
I need to implement a video hosting app in android. The work has to be completed till end of weekend. Need help guys. I am good at Java, but don't know much about android. I love stickers but I also love my laptop lid clean. Back when I was a MacBook user, I did buy a case/cover in order to place the stickers and remove them whenever I want. Do you know anything similar for regular notebooks such as a Dell Inspiron?3

I want to use a old (like around 6 years or so) old laptop with a i3 as controllcenter (for music, smarthome and stuff), writing machine and for some light virtualization maybe. It will run Arch (because i want toll tinker around with arch, so much fun ^^) and i just want to know your oppinions: Good Idea, Bad Idea and do you think it will even be working?2

Accidentally reverted the repository wiping all the non-versioned custom patches in a production client! I thought it was my computer’s terminal. Luckily we’d got a backup from last deploy. Later we customized the bash prompt in all prod servers to avoid confusions like this.1

Anybody got good source of how to install Arch Linux alongside with Windows? Cause arch wiki is killing me.14
-
Serious question, what is the use case for Arch? From all that I hear about how complicated it is it doesn't sound very practical4
-
So here's alot of talk about Arch and so on. I am originally Windows user, but converting to Linux more and more every day. I've been using Ubuntu almost for a year and Fedora for 2 months.
I want to know why Arch is so popular and why should I try it out. I see no point why should I, but I want to know you, guys, opinions about Arch.3 -

Hmm ... currently using manjaro (arch). Worth giving gentoo a shot? To those of you who use it on a daily basis, - can you recommended. Would you advice against it? Is it hard to get used it to it?6
-
I would like to learn how to make a mobile app, but I do not know what to choose. Some say java, some say kotlin, then some react native and some flutter. I just wanted to ask for advice. And btw Laravel, Js, Jquery, Ajax and Cordova Apache are all I know so far.7

Spent an hour today trying to start arch update because gstreamer0.10 made me first delete a buttload of packages. Why did I even install it in the first place 😩
-
Does anyone know of a docking solution for laptops compatible for Arch Linux? The pluggable usb c or usb 3.0?
If anyone has had experience using any particular docking or any other alternatives, I’d appreciate some insight.2 -
random rant:
as much as I like manjaro, and antergos is very nice looking, and sometimes arch bang is just easy and good:
they are not arch. yes they are arch-based. but you are not an arch user. you are a manjaro/antergos user. please do not call yourself arch users. and especially do not ask questions in the arch forums. all of these arch-based distros have their own forums for a reason.
that is all...6 -
How yesterday should have ended:
- completed vimtutor
- Arch installed on my laptop
- arch rice (essential)
- arch configured to consume as little battery as possible
How it ended:
- no working pendrive found in my house. FML
I know I already posted a rant/meme on installing Linux (I gave up cause too many problems) but this time it was for real. I'll try again today with a borrowed pendrive.3 -
My first tech blog about an issue I faced with arch. Your inputs please !

How to change gtk theme in KDE only for small amount if apps? My Eclipse suffers from breeze-gtk, foreground and background are same color in some places
P.S. I'm on Arch Linux distro -
Manjaro or antergos?
I've only tried antergos so far, and it looks really promising, but some people say its bad... 🤔
Looking forward to switch to one of them though, don't feel ready to go pure arch yet 😅4 -
How the hell do you get jobs on sites like freelancer.com? As a newly registered user, things seems so confusing and almost impossible to own a bid :/1

Anyone who can point me into a good direction of linux customization? I want to customize my desktop experience. Like console style and such. I was thinking of arch but never actually made it trough setup.3
