    But your own servers and networking gear, or use a cheaper cloud.

    @lungdart srsly how expensive can having my own server at home be? Why are cloud providers charging so much? How much electricity does it cost? Why and when shouldnt i have my own home server?

    @b2plane it depends.

    How much horse power do you need? Do you need redundant compute? Power? Cooling? Internet? Storage? Do you want to hire someone to maintain it? How often does it need upgrading? How much bandwidth do you need? How much disk? Do you need to meet security compliance for b2b relationships?

    If your answer is you don't give a fuck, then absolutely try doing it yourself. You can probably get up and running for $1000 if you wanted to.

    @lungdart i thought i deleted all my shit but it turned on i forgot to delete my EKS cluster! Fuck. Billed me for 62.12 hours of usage. Not a huge bill but it adds up. I hate paying even small bills if im just using aws to test and learn that shit! Not even for real development

    @b2plane yeah that's a real pain in the ass. Terraform can help with that, you'll at least know when you run destroy if everything was actually destroyed.

    @lungdart totally forgot about that shit!

    I only use my personal aws acc for long-term storage [glacier is it?], so it costs me ~47 cents per month. I don't even login to pay the bill

    @netikras what if i want to use my own entire devops pipeline that uses k8s clusters trivy sonarqube ecr jenkins created with terraform. Sonarqube itself takes 700mb of storage. Ec2 has t2.micro free tier but is 1gb of storage. T2.medium is larger and works until it doesnt because of no storage. Only t3.xlarge works fine but has higher bills.

    I wouldnt mind paying up to 5$ max per month. This shits taking up 10-20$ per day

    @b2plane and I'd like it for free, but that ain't happening.

    Get a beefy server at hetzner or so and build your setup you want. 50€/mo

    @b2plane if I remember correctly you could add additional disk storage to ec2 instances when creating them.

    I have heard this before. This happened when a oversmart frontend dev tried to do devOps at a previous company thinking it was child's play. Shot his own foot. I sense that same feeling here

    I literally have nothing on my aws account and get billing emails for $0 and it’s very annoying

    @b2plane i built something similar but used local servers running a prox mox cluster, which runs k8s on top of that.

    I use it to pirate movies, but it's fun to play with!

    @Napstalgic for my main company site which i host a 97mb nextjs site + nodejs serverless backend i get billed literally fkin 0$ somehow

    But when building my own custom pipeline, using ECR, ECS, kubernetes, jenkins sonarqube (700 fkin mb) trivy (oh shit i just realized i forgot to add argocd) i get all of these shits (oh shit i just realized i forgot to go over elasticsearch) this shits costing. Surprisingly the EKS costed more than my EC2

    @lungdart https://aws.amazon.com/eks/pricing

    Contacted support and he sent me this. EKS charges 0.10$ per fucking cluster! What the fuck!

    Why is running kubernetes on aws so expensive? Shit costs 72$ per month just for 1 cluster?? Why

    Wtf do i do now. Not use kubernetes? Use kubernetes only when my software already earns enough money to pay such bills?

    It's managed kubernetes. They give you the control plane for free (or 10c per hour) along with the operations support for upgrading.

    You don't need kubernetes. If you want to learn it and don't want to pay for it, run it at home. That's what I do.

    K8s is a way to scale. If you don't have scale, you don't need it.
