While working my SSD suddenly decided to die. FUCK.

Samsung Evo 850, 4 days

@Froot Don't worry, I have backups :) Every day a complete system backup and every 30 minutes several synchronizations of my home folder (3 x cloud, 2 x hdd, 1x sdcard).

4 days? Damn that thing was doomed from the beginning

That wasn't the only one who died. The previous Evo 840 was dead after 8 weeks.

That was my trip to SSDs. Return to HDDs again. Never before has an HDD died without a warning.

Performance is not worth the risk to me. Arch Linux is fast enough without SSD.

Maybe I'll try SSDs again in a few years.

@ThatDude Yeah, 4 days. Got it on monday, right from Amazon.

@Jop- Yeah, I had one from Intel and one from Kingston. They're still fine, but the performance is terrible after a few days of use.

@tracktraps do you happen to live in Chernobyl?

Did you install Blue Whale installed on SSD?

how old is your psu?

@Jop- yes, samsung ssd's reputation is not good.

but two ssd in less than a month... maybe there's a problem with your psu or you are very unlucky🤔

@shelladdicted The laptop is relatively new, about 3 months. It was probably just bad luck.

@Jop- I thought the Samsung Evo 850 was the best and fastest SSD currently available. Based on reviews at Amazon, the Evo 850 was rated as one of the best :(

@tracktraps because it is, sometimes we tend to say that something is the worst because ours is broken

Samsung sells a lot of SSDs, I've got 2, never had a problem
He had 2, lots of problems

This doesn't mean Samsung is the problem, it may just be bad luck

My friend, some months ago told me that AMD was better than Nvidia just because he broke a GPU...

@HAlex Maybe I'll give it another shot. I have requested an exchange at Amazon. Should be there on Tuesday. I can keep the old one and don't have to send it back.

Sometimes it is an advantage to be in the middle of nowhere (Tavira) where only UPS delivers :)
