I had a similar situation yesterday during this confference that I am attending. A "web developer" was talking about the state of the web landscape and how all these front end developers were doing a lot of harm by bringin in Javascript as a server side language and a front end language stating that there was no obvious benefit from this. At one point he mentioned that front end development was not really necessary. I damn near chocked him, but then again he had serious lack of knowledge as a backend developer so I could really not take him seriously. I am more of a backend developer myself, but this shit was really dumb man.
