5, 6 does not say its ok to kill children does not say its ok to own slaves.....did you do your english well??🤣🤣🤣🤣

The bible in general is overrated, also within religious texts. But that's what you get when you build three trash religions upon an angry, jealous desert troll.
-
Ahh.. but of course, christians always find excuses for their bible contents. And they often tell us to look at context too, but they themselves can't look at context.
These writings were made in the time where slavery was totally OK and humans were often treated as property. Also parents sent their underage daughter to old men for money, even now, in some backwater countries. Are you really going to insist that all bible translators are so dumb, they mistranslated simple workers as slaves? What a joke.
The bible writings are as literal and as correct as they can be. Jehova made rules for his followers, about slavery, underage sex trafficking, and murder of non followers. Trying to defend it doesn't make you look good. -
b2plane63921y@Taqsblaz3 it gives precise instructions how to do sex trafficking rape killings and owning slaves. It does not say it's wrong. It even tells you to beat your slave just enough so your slave doesn't die. How about saying don't beat your slaves? Or don't own slaves at all because it's immoral? Not a single verse

The bible is a collection of several different authors, different points in time, wrong -/ lost translations.
But for starters:
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy form the torah.
The four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John are usually divided into the synoptic gospels vs the gospel of John:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Could go on, but point is: The bible is a collection of various fictional and non fictional texts.
Trying to point out logical flaws without taking that in account is... Dumb.
I'd recommend taking a scientific approach to the bible, its quite interesting. Scientific, not religious.
Other fun facts:
E.g. the book of salomon is literal porn.
If you ever need to write a poem for someone special or ideas for sexting, I'd recommend reading it. ;)
The gospel of John is by the way commonly used for cults like Jehovas witness - reason why I mentioned the synoptic gospels. -
vane110521yPoint 6 is valid on how to eradicate nations.
Anyways that’s history of civilization, if you deny history, eventually history would become reality.
Moreover I think we are slowly in a process to go back to those days. You might not see it but if you look closely and live long enough you would see a pattern. Maybe not so brutal right now like described above but we are slowly getting there. -
it's been done to completeness already. no need for you to do your own.

@galena nah. the point of the bible (and every other religious book) is to have some validation to oppress your own people and slaughter others.
-
@daniel-wu The most popular bible translations today are from medieval England, because the people who trust a several thousand years old book without proof don't tend to associate progress with improvement. As such, there are a lot of accidental mistranslations and even more intentional ones, because the translators had an agenda too and the original Hebrew text often includes what the medieval lordship would consider distasteful content or at odds with their social order.

Can't we just keep the debate about biblical hermeneutics to Reddit? Same with the literal shit posts, please.

b2plane63921y@AlmondSauce No. I'm your Lord here. I command what we do here. I'm the main character

@iiii it would take a very very long explanation, but yes.
Certain parts of the bible are at least partially historical accurate.
Adding partial here because "historical accurate" is already a phrase that needs a lot of explaining.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Is I think worth a read. Though that only focuses on the Apostles.
Regarding historical accurate:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
I could now make up a lot of examples. But in short: A lot of our historical knowledge needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
While the bible contains a lot of fiction, part of its descriptions regarding e.g. politics, society, economy, culture definitely fit what can be proven by e.g. archeological findings.
Its easy to dismiss the bible as fictional hogwash, but truth be told: A lot of our historical knowledge was passed exactly like the bible: Orally passed over hundreds of year. Some point in time written down. Translated. Copied. Translated. Copied. And so on.
Historical accurate is a very fine line between fiction and non fiction.
We can not look back in time so we have to simply assume that that what was passend down and matches other findings is "probably and most likely true".
Did the Roman empire exist? Yes.
Is every story about the Roman empire that was passed down true down to the smallest fact? Hell no.
Note: The bible is largely a fictional mythological work. I'm not denying that. -
iiii90851y@IntrusionCM overall it just sounds like fiction historical novel in which some historical facts or quazi-facts are present, but that does not mean that anything in it is non-fiction. Everything could be warped only resembling facts but not being facts

@lorentz By medieval, did you mean King James Version? NIV and NET versions who are pretty recent still translate those words as slaves though?
Also it makes total sense for an ancient god believed by people who lived on 1,000 B.C. to allow slavery. Religions usually get to stay in power thanks to the ruler and the powerful people / the nobles / the land lords. They definitely wanted to have to slaves.
Oh do I need to mention that these books were most definitely composed / written under their's order?
Bible verses.
