@linux-colonel I quit 😂
-
@ingenioushax like I said, smart editor. it can tell when it's indentation when you hit backspace and goes back 4 spaces :)
-
@dfox fair point
-
@dfox they all up voted the post too. and doesn't more comments = higher ranking in the algorithm?
-
I would consider them languages... I would also consider them programming... but to call them "programming languages" just seems wrong!
-
@Tippy yeah that's what I was thinking
@azuredivay 😂😂 -
😂😂😂
I think we can all agree that our arguments are way better than normal people's arguments though! -
@ingenioushax nobody who uses spaces for indents uses the space bar! you set your editor to use spaces, then when you hit TAB it puts in 4 spaces (or however many it takes to line it up properly. the editor is smart and takes care of it)
-
@SithLord as a long time windows user I completely agree that the auto update absolutely sucks lol. even with it turned off, some updates still must be "scheduled to reboot in the next 24 hours" or whatever. that and the fragmented control panels are my main gripes with W10.
-
@achehab nope I definitely believe it! I'm a Windows user myself. I was really just curious, that's all :)
-
@achehab just curious, what's your source for that?
-
@altermind *whispers* my Linux beats all of your OSes!!!
crap, the ground is shaking... get out while you can! save yourself!! -
asking the question doesn't do anything... stating an opinion as fact is what does it 😂
p.s. Mac is better than Windows -
@altermind okay, well in your defense being sent a lmgtfy link is pretty demeaning
however you have a problem, and were presented with a great possible solution, but you're rejecting it outright because you're too lazy to Google one word and read the first link?
it's not my intention to be rude or to attack you, but as a beginner if you expect to get anywhere at all, you need to have the attitude of a sponge: to soak up as much knowledge as possible -
@nblackburn do you have a job? if so it must be a very nice one :)
-
...something seems fishy...
-
there is a huge codebase at my work that runs on PHP 5.x, uses mysql_ everywhere. It was code bought from some Indian company.
Rewriting all of it to use mysqli would be quite a huge chunk of work, and not something my boss would see as "worth it" :) -
@achehab but... but... this is dev rant D:
-
(I'm not really replying to anyone in particular, just sort of adding to the discussion)
-
I see rants every day hating on technologies that I love and/or use regularly. it's all in good fun! :)
I'm a long time windows user, and I love Windows 10, though it's not without flaws. I have nothing against macs, and I dual boot Linux (though I don't use it much). Everything has a use. The real cancer is fan boys. -
the best part of being a programmer! :D what does it do?
-
People tend to say "I'm just testing the software" or "I recommend it to my friends and so they end up making more money," but that's just stemming from the idea that stealing online is different from stealing from a store: it's really not different
-
@antoni4040 everything has a cost to make. a piece of commercial software costs the salaries of however many developers, designers, consultants, managers, customer support etc... etc... etc... nothing is free.
If you steal a game CD from Walmart, let's say it cost 50 cents to produce that physical CD and the case. They produce them in mass, so it may even be cheaper than that. But so okay, that's 50 cents Walmart & the game company lost. But they're not as upset about that 50 cents as they are about the $59.50 of profit that would go to pay the developers so they can feed their families, that you stole!
You're getting a product that took hundreds of man hours to make. And you think it's okay to steal online because you're stealing 50 cents less?
Again, if they wanted to have "give free software" as their business model they would, but if they don't it means they decided it would be harmful to their company. -
that may be your case, but it's definitely not true as a blanket statement. I know many people my age who have paying jobs and still pirate stuff. if they really wanted to buy it they could.
if you take this argument and change it to stealing from a store, it makes no sense, even though it's the same thing.
if they *wanted* their business model to be "giving away their product for free to create future customers", they could easily do that, but someone somewhere decided that charging an upfront or recurring cost for the product was better, and since it's their product they have a right to decide that. -
or if we'd just use git we could solve so many problems
-
so if I never start another program again I will have finished an infinite amount of programs, including programs that find solution to world peace and cancer, in one instant! C:
-
marry that girl
-
this is amazing 😂
-
@viltaque true, yeah I see what you're saying
-
@viltaque if your definition of a language includes throwing exceptions then sure, I guess CSS isn't a language. But that would also mean languages like "brainfuck" aren't languages.
So maybe a true language has to be Turing complete? well in that case... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...
;)
