By an absolute coincidence, my birthday just got a bit better. A guy I know wrote on social media that he had some ram to sell for ~15 USD, 16GB DDR3 (2x8).
It just so happens that today I've decided to start using my old pc again, after a year and a half of no use, which just so happens only has 8GB of RAM DDR3 :D2 -
New episode on my clients being morons.
Got a call this morning:
Client: hello, we've got a problem here...
Me: tell me about it
C: well... Do you remember the 1200 account we loaded last week ?
Me: yes? What's wrong, we tested them, everything was alright.
C: yeah... But we just noticed we loaded them in the wrong status... Fix that!
Me: easy, we clear the database and load the correct data back.
C: NO WAY! We already worked on 3 accounts. Don't want to lose any of that. Just change the status, it's easy
Me: well not really, there's a lot more going on when you go from one status to another.
C: Don't care, just do it
So... now I need to delete the bad data, checking nothing else gets impacted in the application. And then reload that same data with the proper status this time.
As weird as this sounds like, this is the reason why I love my job. You get challenges like that every single day.4 -
That moment when someone is happy because I said I read their README file ahahah
This is a guy from a big corporation I'm integrating with, I guess no one ever reads his stuff xD2 -
Interviewer : So what frameworks and library you usually use?
Me : i use volley for networking, gson for parsing, livedata/architecture components for architecture and observability , room for database and java for app development
I : ok so make this sample app using retrofit for networking, moshi for parsing, mvrx for architecture , rx for observability , sqldelight for db, dagger2 and kotlin for app dev. You have 8 hours
Me :(wtf?) But i never used those libs or language!
I : we just want to check how easily you adapt to different surroundings.
Me : -_-
Honestly i don't know of it was a great experience or a bad one . I was stressed the whole time but was able to adapt to almost all of those libraries and frameworks.
At the end i got selected but decided not to go for those ppl. That was just a lucrative opening of a venus fly trap, they would have stressed the hell out of me11
