Book and/or comics! Now!
If you'll seriously hit a wall in dev life, seriously consider writing. At least as a (part time) hobby. Your rants are superb! This one alone could be a short novel or a comic strip.
I already imagine a Hollywood movie which begins with an ordinary career choice and then scene changes into apocalypse... Main character played by Ryan Reynolds? -
@nurox @netikras camera is fixed in the new models. I have it and love it. Performance is ofc better than macbook, but then it's difficult to find anything these days that's not outperforming macbook. I would advise against I9, because of thermal throttling. (macs suffer even more, you can find plenty of tests on the Internet).
No major issues with Linux, just need to follow Arc wiki (even if you don't use Arc; I'm on suse mostly). But! There is no fingerprint reader driver for Linux :(
Works flawlessly under Windows.
Feels really nice, lightweight, sturdy, quite pretty. Oled screen is indescribably beautiful. That said, most of the units still suffer from vertical banding, so if that's a killer feature for you, make sure you have a painless return policy.
But most importantly, find a store where you can hold it in your arms (or a friend who has one of these) and see how does it feel in your arms. Because everyone (like me here) will give you personal (read: biased) impressions. -
@noogli shark lasers helps with mandatory login 😉
-
Yup, Belgium seems to be in the second place after Germany to have the worst/most outdated/ancient Internet infrastructure in Europe.
Or perhaps it's just my impression after living in Brussels for a while. -
This is brilliant!!! Omg, I'm gonna use it at work! 🤣
-
This:
- This one can't take 2 weeks, its not that complicated.
A nice response is:
- This can't be that important, and since it's not important, we'll do it next year. Or maybe next one. Sometime maybe.
If they know how complicated/simple it is, you damn well know how important/irrelevant it is. -
Practice shows that domain names can be bought, be abandoned/forgotten to pay for and then bought by other persons, and/or ownership transferred to other persons using other means.
Just sayin' ;) -
My project lead: What if we would increase your salary ?
You: I'd stay, of course. You only need to increase my salary four times. (or by whatever amount you estimate your business will grow + extra for risk and motivation).
If he agrees to match your demands, then why leave?
P.S. Sėkmės ;) -
@netikras yup, plain and simple query. To make matters worse, it's a view in a different db which I'm accessing over db link and have pretty much no other permissions there.
Fun times 😁 -
I suppose I should have mentioned that I don't even use hibernate and just used your rant to rant about offtopic oracle :) sorry... :)
-
Tell me about it... I don't know if it's more satisfying, but consider getting "ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column".. on SELECT. I mean.. How???
-
Looks like you struck gold.
1. Find 0-day bug - done.
In progress:
2. Write exploit
3. ??
4. Profit. -
Need! Moar! ++!
This is brilliant brilliant brilliant! Genius I say! -
@practiseSafeHex you just don't understand how big the system.. err, how long your rant is. You need to cut it in pieces and release them more often, because I only can ++ one rant once, and this amazing stuff deserves so much more! :)
-
@-vim- there is. It's called NoScript. Last time I've seen autoplay was around y2k.
-
Don't worry.
Will test it in production. -
Amen to that. It feels like for a few years already Google is degrading rapidly. Take for example their email "security" - try to connect from a different network with imap and you get blocked. But you can login immediately via their website and you'll get in. Wtf?! Oh, but then they'll send you an email to warn you that someone tried to access your account. With correct password. And they send this email to the same account, of course. Just how "special" their engineers have become? We're taking about someone way more "advanced" than Mr. McFartface.
-
We have a sorta of a problem: you apparently didn't put one of the new cover sheets on your tps reports...
-
@1989 @HomeAlone definitely coin toss time. Toss a coin and don't even look - before it lands you'll already know, which one you hoped for.
-
Because it's been bought by oracle.
-
After last story about G, ++ first, read later. I already know this is gonna be good.
-
She sounds too good to be true. Are you sure she's not imaginary?
-
You know how usually when you type "lol" or "rofl" when in reality you just barely squeeze out a smile? Well this rant really made me giggle :) xixi :)
-
I don't get it. If I receive one email having unsubsribe somewhere in the body and I have not requested it, it goes to spam. All following emails from this company go directly to spam. This is how I unsubsribe. There are no exceptions.
My inbox is always clean. And I never check spam folder.
If only everyone would follow the same rule, your boss would not be stupid enough to ask you to create mailing campaign. -
And you found time to post a rant. Congrats, you're officially no longer a startup!
-
You gotta pump those numbers up!
-
Just consider this: the most infuriating thing to a fanboy is if you laugh at his ideas instead of getting angry or arguing and using reason. For example:
Him: Buuuuuuut I'd do it with this: {insert anything in relation to Microsoft and the stack i said}.
You: Oh, I know you would. (with a smile and barely hidden laugh, implying that he just said the most stupid thing imaginable, or even beyond that, but since you are such a nice person you are not laughing in his face).
Also, respond to other statements as you normally would respond to any other mentally challenged person: friendly, with a smile, and completely ignoring that nonsensical babbling of his.
It would help if your colleagues start also responding in similar fashion. After a short while this should make him explod with fury. -
Don't get me started about Oracle, cause the rants and rage will spill 24/7 nonstop.
100% agree with the rant and comments. Oracle can not produce any decent software, they just buy it and rebrand.
But there's a way to install Oracle db and other crap without installing x on the same server. Just use X11Forwarding (and XMing if you're on Windows). I still refuse to bloat up production servers, despite all oracle's efforts :)
FUCKING ORACLE DIE ALREADY! -
Cnet, now that's a name I haven't heard in a looong time. How deep did you dig to find this fossil?
-
Been there myself, so I have a slight idea of what you're going through. Although it seems to me that you're handling it better than I did.
You have my axe!
I mean, you have my moral support!
