2017 renewed my Community license without giving me an error or making me restart Windows. So far, so good.

@xalez, I have no idea. The only area I see where it makes a little bit of sense is in the Reports module, where developers create custom reports using ActiveReports6, and all the namespaces and types are stored in the metadata portion of the database. Everywhere else, though, is just one solution calling into another solution. My educated guess is that somebody didn't want to make each solution build dependent on the others...?

ASP.NET, migrating to MVC. IIS. MS SQL. Infragistics, Kendo.

Cobol

@Grundeir, we're definitely not doing it. That client needs to have a sit down with the department who presented us the specs and the department that made the change request.
-
System.Numerics.BigInteger, CompareTo

I think he's referring to the NULL value in the footer. If it's not configured, just about anything, even an empty string, would be better.

Hire the kid.

@RexOmni, no this was code already in production that had no reason to be commented out. My code was new code that made a call to it, but there were already 100 plus calls already in place. We all assumed my feature didn't work, then realized nothing was working and found that gem.

I LOLed because my 5 year old is in my office singing "The Days of the Week" song she learned at preschool.
-
Had a business major discuss shitty software the other day. They are fine with half the features being broken as long as the other half sell and provide an acceptable IRR. Sigh.
-
Sounds like my first ever project manager.
"Investigate why this failed."
"Ok, I'm still learning the system. Any suggestions on where to start?"
"You'll either figure it out or find a new industry." -
@SirusAmory this is not related to statistics or distributions. Addresses from an internal sister application were found to be incorrect. It was sending the name of client A and the address of client B. Now the PM wants the name and address request checked on every incoming request and a log maintained each time they don't match between apps. Ugh.

Something you don't want to see on anything that handles financial transactions: "not genuine"
-
That's fantastic! We've been waiting for 4 ever since the release of 3!
-
I miss my main office. Your choice of coffee, soda, or chocolate covered espresso beans.
-
Hope it had a daily backup policy.

I only ever used raw pointers while doing my undergraduate work. Once I got a job, everything was inside a managed framework with garbage collection (.NET). I've only used pointers for some very specific challenges over at HackerRank, and then it's only smart pointers.
-
I like minimalist design; less distractions. The core focus of posting and reading rants remains at the forefront of my user experience.
-
This may be a side effect of HR professionals running scripted questions about software development. A correct answer that deviates from their canned answer can result in rejection, as can an honest response that you don't know.
-
I think quitting only applies to those who fail and don't try again. You're going to have plenty of failures post-graduation, but you've already shown you can pick it up again and work on it until it's right. Good for you.
-
I love code cutoff, as long as tickets don't fail.
-
I stand by my statement. It's good to have exposure to both. How many job postings have old frameworks listed as a plus for skills?
-
If you hate learning new frameworks/languages, get out now.
-
I would extend this to inserts and updates as well. Many a time has a junior developer run a "simple script" that has a logic error in the WHERE clause. I've even seen one that entirely forgot about the WHERE clause, thus naming every user entity "Brad."
-
@progzilla, we'll see if she pursues a career in the field. I think she gets it from listening to a lot of my meetings (I work from home) where we discuss automation of simple tasks.
-
Internal wiki for documentation. TFS for source control and versioning.
-
I'd wager not as many that are currently handling overflow.
-
...this sounds just like my current project team...

@GEARWasHere I know this, but she does not. She also does not have access to the PlayStore directly. When she wants a new game, I log on and look for one with her.
