@zlice yes I remember when politics, religion, and home life were never talked about at work. I think was better times.
-
You can see the backlash that Microsoft is getting today over their immigration stance. Now people are angry that they have gov contracts. They should have stuck to what they are good at.
-
I have wondered if they just want to send people through the process even while knowing they won't be selected. As a female I think I have been to a few where they were just going through the motions so they can say they tried to be diverse but could not find anyone skilled.
I recently had one episode where I passed a technical phone screen but when I arrived for the in person interview things turned cold. I think they were surprised to see a 53 year old mom. They cut the interview short and led me toward the door in about 15 minutes. The recruiter said they said I was not senior enough. I have been programming professionally in their stack for nearly 20 years. -
I hate team building activities. All you get out of it is who are the closet alcoholics and harassers. I am cool not having that knowledge.
-
Many tech companies I have admired over the years are broadcasting their political views. I think they should be promoting their product. Even when I agree with what they are posting I think it is a case of not putting customers or even business growth first.
-
@Frederick i know. I have had people ask me who I voted for, tell me I look like a vegan, ask me if I am getting a divorce. That is my personal business, no one at work has the right to know about what I do off hours.
-
Yes but the career path after about 5 years may become limited. There is a problem in our industry regarding career paths. You are expected to become an architect or manager, dumb I know but the industry is broken. If you don't meet the criteria or don't prefer that path I recommend going it alone or with a group of like minded individuals. Start planning now. It takes longer than you think.
-
@spoiledgoods it is a difficult road like being a pioneer trekking out west. Find a few like minded friends and start something new. You will find it difficult to find work at a certain age so plan your escape now.
-
If you want to show them they are dumbasses install mirrors in the break room but the probably don't eat with the help so they would never see it.
-
Doing a detox is a reasonable decision. Hoping things smooth out.
-
Do you think people don't talk about the sucky things in the profession right now because they are afraid to? I don't work for others now so I say things I would never say 3 years ago.
-
Managers and project managers are usually dumb asses. Only bootlickers move to that role.
-
@Zoroknash like ecoli bacteria or a virus.
-
I accidentally said javascript flamework instead of javascript framework. I did this in an interview.
-
I am a c# dev and am interested in blazor. I just want most not all javascript to die a painful death.
-
Right fuck those fuckers.

I was in a similar situation so I mocked all the API calls just so I could work instead of waiting. The project eventually failed and they said my tech skills were not good enough. Maybe you should tell them the non working API is an impediment and put it back on them. I found trying to work around it allowed them to avoid the real problem.

I document whenever management makes me code something in a way that does not make sense for the user. I then write unit and ui tests around it. They can own the mess.
-
Time to revolt. Search for random things in google, confuse their AI. Daily I grow more and more disgusted with these companies.

Windows apps are not done much anymore. Everything went to the web. If something needs to be desktop uwp is an option.
-
Wpf was nice, easy to deploy like a web app but the power of a windows app. It never got real popular and fizzled pretty much. I liked it.
-
You can do it with universal windows platform (uwp) . Using C# in visual studio. Xamarin university is a good place to learn how to do it using xamarin.

I was getting many visitors like this on my Shopify site where I sell jewelry, a few bracelets had the word "bullet" in them because a few had decorative fake bullets. I started getting concerned and closed my site for a few months, reopened with without that word in the product description and the strange visitors have not returned.
-
I am living through a similar situation. I was working 12 to 18 hours per day to keep up. Got told my contract won't be renewed because my technical skills are too low. I have 6 days left on my contract and now working 8 hours per day.
-
I liked it more 15 years ago where if you knew some sql and a backend language you were good to go. I really hate front end web development.
-
Oh yeah it also sounds like they are misusing scrum by being a disorganized mess but calling it iterative. I would guess your daily stand up is really daily status.
-
Time to look for something else. The way things are going this can't go on. If you wait they will either boot you or you will get fed up and leave. This situation won't work out.
-
I know some who are combining tech knowledge with other skills or industries but it takes time and strategy to transition from dev worker bee to the next thing. I have been in the process for two years.
-
You problems being too sedentary, posture, stress?
-
@sharktits I need to try that.
