What I absolutely hate the most of my workflow is to hand over my code for review to other developers.
I know it is important to prevent errors and to get feedback from them to improve, but I'm far from being self-confident and I'm afraid of showing others my work, regardless of the fact that nobody said anything mean about my work.

Estimates.. First, part of the team makes "high-level" estimates which are based on informal, incomplete, still-evolving specs and an unstable back-end. The project people report the estimates to the client and elevate the status of these inaccurate estimates to that of commitments.

Then, before the "sprint", we review our initial estimates *ahum commitments* in greater (technical) detail. Because there are still a lot of unknowns, we tend to estimate more buffer here (back-end is often not ready, always ping-pong between project people and dev-team about unclear specs, more work than originally expected, and often late modifications to the original spec).

When an estimate becomes more than 50% extra time at the "refinement", we are told: "sorry, we gotta do it in less" and when it doesn't work out, we're kindly asked to spend part of our weekend catching up at 100% pay rate (legally it's 150-200%).

FUCK THIS SHIT

PM: “I need to you build a responsive web portal for our BaaS clients that is clean and responsive. I’d like you to use Node, CSS Grid and ES6 for it.”

Me: “Sounds like fun.”

PM: “Make sure it works in IE8.”

So management posted an article "10 signs you suck at your job" in the lunch room. It's pretty passive-aggressive; I wish I could find the link to it somewhere to post here.

My new PM thinks programming is like using Excel to define times and send the price of the work hours to the clients... 😂

Recruiters company emailed me to accept their privacy statement. I asked them what kind of information they got from me. Get an email back with: your information is deleted. I didn't expected that. It's clearly to hard to just send me the info...

Any Xamarin users here? Which is better swift or Xamarin? In terms of support, performance etc. The app for the time being mostly needs api calls only.

Soo.. Google is using ReCaptcha to improve their AI... They are verifying the answers by having multiple users solve the same image...

Couldn't we break their AI by just having enough users answer the same Captcha in the same wrong way?

We rant while we hit obstacles in life/dev jobs..
Just one flu/food poisoning makes us realize we are so vulnerable at time.
We can't code our way out of that...

Change is truly a difficult thing. I've been trying to introduce my group colleagues to GitHub, I even gave them some tutorials that I used. I'm not saying I know everything about Git or GitHub but the pros of using it or any VCS outweigh using Google drive, zipping and email each other the code and many other creative ways of sharing work. Let's just say two months have passed there haven’t been any change ☹

'If there are merge conflicts I delete their work and use mine, my code is probably better anyway'.

Welp, I've become a supprter. :)

After a long time of thinking and considering, I think it's the best way to give back to the community. Being part of this community gave me a place I was lacking in the real world: a place to speak with other people about pretty much everything from pets to memes to just basic dev stuff, and more importantly, a place that I felt wanted me here. The community here is kind and just all around cool and I wish to continue to see people enjoy being here as much as i do. :)
