There are two types of contractors/consultants:
1. Hypercompetent
2. Completely inept
Unfortunately I have the displeasure of working with several of the second kind on my team right now. However, there are also several on my team of the first variety who are absolute gods at what they do.
At least it balances out!5 -
I have spent 20 minutes explaining to a contractor how to stage a file in git and what a filepath is.
It's moments like this where I stop worrying about my job security9 -
Since this daily schedule stuff is catching on, here's my day!

Are WITCH contractors with several YOE just naturally incompetent, or do they feign incompetence for more billable hours?4

We need to create a story for creating the stories that we determined needed to be created during the SPIKE

I am a software engineer with many skills. Skills that are wasted on creating a QuickSight dashboard. The day I even look at this dashboard again or am asked to make another one, I will start applying to different jobs.

Is it just me or has the usefulness of Google search been SEO'd to death? At this point only Bing and even freaking Brave Search are providing results that are related to what I'm looking for. Even Gigablast does a better job than Google sometimes (props for open sourcing the backend, Gigablast maintainer guy)5

Had to change password on computer for administrative reasons (sysadmins and infosec make us change our pass every quarter). Changes didn't sync to everything so now I can't even log into my computer.
Need to go to the office tomorrow so some guy can type in an admin password on my pc and do stuff to it. If that doesn't work I will just be given a new laptop.
Seriously fuck this week4 -
Infrastructure took away our read access in S3 to data that we own and our ability to manually delete/upload to S3 in that prefix (which we own). Without waiting for us to confirm that we have alternative means to read and change what is in there. And I had no warning about this, so here I am doing a midnight mod on an existing solution of mine in hopes that I can finish it before tomorrow morning for some legal reporting deadline.
Things would be so much easier if the infrastructure team let the emergency support role have those permissions for emergencies like this, but they didn't. I guess "least privilege" means "most time spent trying to accomplish the most trivial of things, like changing a file".8 -
Thanks, management, for letting us use AWS glue but not letting us have a dev endpoint so we need to determine what the fuck is going on by reading logs and divination if there is a deep problem

When you're a week behind in school because shit broke in production every night this week 🥲 I wish I could lucid dream so I could have some sweet relief by having superpowers or some shit.
But no, instead I get to be Mr. Fix-it lmao
