I finally get to work on my first independent project at my internship! It’s been cooling working with my team so far but I’m excited to try things to figure out things by myself first before getting some help.

Just started rewatching Jurassic Park for the millionth time and can you imagine working with someone like Dennis Nedry? The messy workspace, spaghetti code, the only one with knowledge of completely obscure and complex code....hits a bit too close home1

I was always somewhere in the range of not athletic enough to be a jock and not smart enough to be a geek during high school so it left me in a fun little purgatory between social groups. Ever since I was a kid though I saw my cousin make flash games for fun and thats where my interest in programming started but I never really did anything with it.
It wasn’t until I broke a bone during a football game and couldn’t play or workout for 8 months that I started jumping head first into programming and IT WENT DEEP. After tearing through and intro to java book I started reading and watching courses about data structures and learning how to make mediocre apps and games. It was terrible as any beginner usually is but god was it fun.
Then college came around and I decided to major in computer science, got myself a nice starting job at a typical big tech company with an actually decent team to work with and I still have the same love for it all since I started with it. -
Hey y’all! I’m having a good time with golang so far! However, it’s so damn frustrating to have to give it admin permissions every time I need to restart my program when making anything with networking. Is there any work arounds to this without giving my account admin?7

Fuck it, after playing around with languages for awhile I decided I’m gonna make the switch from Java to Go. I feel like Java was nice to learn with but now I wanna try out some new tech for building API’s and micro-services.5

Just finished a hackathon this past week trying to hone my skills in node. However, the amount of time I spent debugging stupid type errors was...quite miserable to say the least. Because of that, I’m looking for a new web library or framework XD. Anyone have some fun alternatives with languages that are preferably strongly typed?2

A kid I work with referred to himself as a former child genius.
A few hours later and I’m still cringing4 -
Hey devRant,
What are your tips for delegating jobs as a project manager for a relatively inexperienced team?2 -
Wow just wanted to give a big shout out to this community I never posted here before and all I got was support and how to get better! Y'all rock!

I was assigned my first ever huge software project in college (a complex board game made in only pure java) and was assigned a group by my professor. Since I'm doing well in the class, I was given kids who want me to teach them everything (from GitHub to simple oop) on top of programming most of the system because they can't or don't want to. So to make things easier I gave out some relatively simple and specific jobs in GitHub using the issues system that apparently nobody reads. Thankfully one person decided to take initiative and start their feature but one commit later the entire system crashed and everything is broken FML can't wait to program this entire thing by myself.5
