to add some context: our business is rather large, 300k is just a fraction of IT budget. The solution provider is a well established company with loads of technical debt and seems to be using us as guinea pigs for their ventures into modern software stacks. This is just what happens when decision makers are decoupled from reality, on both sides.

So scary how prevalent vba (and to a lesser extent vbs) still is in corporate environments nowadays. Guess some things will never change, unless MS somehow decides to fully drop support.

Maybe if you went to the interviews with a more positive, open vibe you would have a better chance to get those jobs?

Depends on the position you are applying for and the company culture. Generally speaking as a developer:
- messaging, routing, interfacing
- end 2 end processes
- automation
- legal boundaries
- digital services focused on the customer
