My laptop's pissing me off.
The screen kept flickering so I took out the frame, and checked the display ribbon cable. It was intact, so I put the frame back on and it was fixed.
But a few days later, it started flickering again. For some reason, taking out the frame and putting it back on fixes the issue. I have no idea why.
I'm glad it works, but it's irritating taking it out and putting it back on all the time.12 -
[Extremely off topic]
Hi, Michelle's back and alive. You probably don't remember me, but that's okay. :)68 -
Definitely Nextcloud. Now I don't have to use proprietary software like Google drive and Dropbox anymore.
It's a shame I found out about it last week. I wish I found it sooner.11 -
My 7 year old sister: Why do you always use the duck? Go on google.
Me: Because Google spies on you.
Sister: How??
Me: *too tired to explain* by magic. Whatever you go on, they'll know.
Sister: *shocked expression* WHAT? *proceeds to ask a million questions.*
Sister: What do I do now?
Me: Use the duck (she calls ddg "the duck.")
Then a few hours later, I saw her playing Y8 on DuckDuckGo. I'm so proud of her. :)
Now if only I can convince my 15 year old little brother to do the same thing. He doesn't seem to care at all.55 -
Do you have a main Linux distro or do you keep switching?
I wish I can stop switching, but I'm never satisfied after using a distro for about 6 months.
First I tried Mint, then Ubuntu, then Kali, and I'm currently using Zorin.
I still have a long list of distros to use, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a certain distro they use or if they're constantly switching.40 -
Oh, look. I incorporated yet another programming related metaphor in my writing.
I hope this isn't an automatic rejection when the agent requests a full MS. Most people don't appreciate any of my programming related metaphors for some reason.30 -

Just scared the shit out of my little brother with a bluetooth keyboard. Now he'll never ask for my phone again.12 -
Quick question.
The domain name I wanted was taken, and the person who bought it refused my offer.
So, I'm going to change it up a bit. Which one should I go for?
michelle-midnight.com (the dash might be a bad a idea.)
authormichellemidnight.com (this is way too long.)54 -
I don't know what the hell this is, but my idiotic brother downloaded it.
I uninstalled it, but if it's malware, I'll be pissed off.
He literally just came up to me, and said that he clicked a link on YouTube to download something. He even said, "It's an invisible app."
He says it's invisible, because you can't find it unless you check the apps setting.29 -
Programming in a tree. I usually climb up here and read, but I decided to code, and I didn't drop my laptop :D
I covered the screen with my hand because my code's ugly, and I don't want anyone to see it lol.144 -
Oh my gosh. You guys probably don't know this already, because for some reason no one's talking about it... Microsoft just acquired Github!
Why is no one talking about this? I see absolutely no posts about it.random it's not the end of the world calm down just go to gitlab there's about a million posts about this17 -
I THOUGHT I JUST DAMAGED MY PHONE SCREEN LIKE AN IDIOT.
I haven't slept for 3 days, so I'm kind of out of it.
I was using my phone for a few hours non-stop, because if my mom sees me on my laptop she might take it away lol.
I had to edit my manuscript, so I didn't put my phome down, and it's really hot in my house for some reason even though it's cold outside (63°f).
So my phone overheated, and being the sleep deprived idiot I was, I realized how squishy it felt when I kept pressing my screen down. For some reason it felt good to push on it.
I know, I'm stupid. I kept pressing down until I snapped out of the trance, and realized what I was doing, so I stopped. Then I saw these distinct patches on my screen. Like when there's water in your phone, and you see these roundish splotches. Also, I couldn't move the screen.
I panicked because I thought I ruined the screen, so I turned it off. I kept it face down on my table, and read a book for an hour.
When I turned it back on, the patches were gone. I guess they were present because my phone overheated or something.
Still, that was kind of scary. I thought I ruined it.31 -
Mutual on Tumblr: So what distro do you use?
Me: Zorin OS. I really like it. I'm even considering deleting my windows partition.
Mutual: Really? That doesn't count as a proper distro. Real Linux users only use Zorin on a virtual machine. Use Mint or Kali or something.
Me: It counts. It's not different from any other distro.
Mutual: It's okay to be noob. You can always ask me for advice.
Me: But I've been using Linux for about two years. I don't consider myself a noob.
Mutual: If you're using a shitty distro, then you're a noob.
Me: Okay. Thanks for the advice. (In my mind: fuck off already.)
I don't understand the issue with Zorin OS. Is it because it looks like windows or something? :/26 -
The most notifications I've received in a while.
I used to get lots of notifications, but these days I usually get like 5 a day.
Thanks Nox! :D4 -
Dev related: To actually finish my projects instead of working on different ones, and end up finishing nothing.
I said I was going to create my own operating system. I started it, but barely. I haven't touched the compiler I was working on for months. Oh, and I'm working on an android app related to writing. I started it a while back, and never got to finish it.
My need to stop starting new projects, because if I keep doing this, I'll never finish anything.
Non dev related: To get my manuscript out of the slush pile, and finally published. It's currently in the dreadful querying process.4 -
Don't you just wish you can delete things from the internet forever?
I used to be a host on this show, not telling the name tho. It aired every Thursdays at 10 pm. And in case anyone missed it, the television station would post it on their youtube channel.
I was so desperate to remove it that I flagged it a bunch of times, but I knew it wouldn't work.
I'm dying of embarassment because everyone is finding it. It doesn't air on TV anymore, so that youtube channel is the bane of my existance.
I even got the idea to search myself up and delete any social media accounts, because I want to be nearly invisible on the internet.
That worked out. Except for that damn youtube channel.
I was a fucking 14 year old. I looked weird, acted weird, my mom made me dress weirdly. I was so nervous, I licked my freaking lips ON CAMERA. Not to mention, I had acne, and my skin was dark at the time because I was fresh out of middle school, and I did cross country in middle school.
Now I'm curious. Does anyone else have something embarassing on the internet that they can't get rid of?26 -
I'M AN IDIOT.
I accidentally typed the wrong command when I was compiling my C++ code with GCC, and guess what?
My .cpp file is gone. The .exe is still there, but that's useless to me right now.
It wasn't an important code, just something I recently started on, but I can't believe I did something so ignorant.17 -
I hate Linux so much. I mean, how could anyone of you barbarians like it??
I don't understand the hate for windows. It's secure, emphasizes privacy, and it's Microsoft. What's not to love?
Linux is just proprietary malware.26 -
I wish there was a way to feel well rested without actually sleeping.
Or maybe I could somehow learn to program in my sleep.
I would be so productive, and finish so many projects if those options were possible.11 -
Just curious, how is it like to work as a developer. I mean, as a profession and not a hobby or freelancing.
From devRant, so far I know that you work in an office, the managers and bosses are assholes, and people always write unmanageable and undocumented code.
What else is it like? Do you get to work alone or do you have to work with people? Do you stay there all day long?
I know its still going to be a while for me, but I want to know how it will be like.24 -
Personally, the best way of getting through tough dev days is by reading books or writing stories and poems.16

So many people are applying for computer science majors that it's making me nervous.
My classmates don't know shit about tech yet almost all of them are applying for CS. It's even the most popular ranked major in the US.
I don't think I stand a chance against them. They all have higher GPAs than me, and they participate in clubs and sports.
If those cave people get accepted I'm not going to be too happy about it.61 -
I decided to go back to freelancing.
But there's a lot more devs than before, and I almost forgot how difficult it was to attract clients.
Oh, and I can't believe I forgot about their shitty attitudes. I don't think a nice client even exists.7
