"their 18+ page coding standard document that all the references in the 'using' block be sorted alphabetically"
What the fuck?
I get that it's easy enough. But the point is that this is both arbitrary and worthless. You might as well demand all functions be in alphabetical order, or all properties be in alphabetical order (which is almost reasonable!). But using/import statements?
Find a new job yo. -
A mistake

Pretty funny. "We're gonna teach inclusiveness by singling out and alienating a specific group so much they are uncomfortable and want to leave. Inclusivity is achieved once everyone is equally trying to run and hide!"

I work with time sensitive data so this hits so much harder.
Just to add to these rules, don't forget the super fun aspect of needing to determine local time from UTC based on the physical location.
Oh, you don't observe DST?
Oh, you observe a special DST *sometimes*?
Oh, you only started/stopped observing DST two years ago which we need to calculate so time doesn't drift for archival reasons?
Oh, your location overlaps two simultaneous time zones because your zip code is so big?
Erase time zones forever please. -
I was hoping things like flexbox/sass would ameliorate some of the issues I run into with CSS, but I just end up having to learn 3 things to get what I want instead of one and it's infuriating.
I just want to fucking center the fucking inputs you fucking fuck!!!11 -
Complete opposite here. Before noon, expect me to handle PRs, emails, design specs, and to kill a pot of coffee
After lunch, fuck off until the end of the day. Those 5+ hours are where I get shit done. -
I committed a zip file of the binaries into my branch once. Man, that was embarrassing. Ballooned the repo to 2gb just to add insult to injury.
Didn't take long to fix, but shit happens. -
@asgs there is a funny screen shot of someone searching these on git and hitting an xml word filter that becomes an absolute potty mouth the further you scroll. But obviously I mean words that don't belong, not lists specifically for filtering said words

Was a reverse merge out of the question?
If your branch had a months worth of work that needed merged into your master/main branch, you could always merge it into yours first, then handle the merge conflicts. -
This is an ACTUAL function I found at my last job:
string Unretardify(string str) {...} -
@gumPop I was going to make a sudo joke here, but I need coffee first.
-
@Demolishun I fucking hope so. Docker is the suck

Are you me?
I inherited an entire ecosystem that the previous architects were flying by the seat of their fresh out of school pants. It's been tempting to take a metal bat to some of these systems, as it would produce better results.
Data integrity is non-existent, the API is a byzantine work of delicate glass that shatters from the slightest modification, the internal business logic is neatly snuggled between lines of code that appear to do nothing at all except invoke elder gods, and to top it off, it contains absolutely zero logging or methods to debug. -
this kind of post charges admission the rides so good.

@HitWRight Judging by my time spent with them so far, its to drain hours of my day away and slowly drive me deeper into alcoholism.
