Is it me or is password security is a giant mess right now?

Everyone has a gazillion ways to sign in.

Everything needs an account so eventually you get a password manager to keep track.

After reauthenticating passwordword manager, then you get to the next screen that requires you to enter a code from 2FA. Internet isn't fun to use any more.

    what's your solution?

Now there is this new thing called passkeys, that hopefully will remove the need for passwords and 2FA.

@joewilliams007 I propose we go back to go back to the good old decentralized desktop apps and less saas maybe.

But it's also more about how we just can't have nice things. It takes one instance/person to screw it up for us to beef up all kinds of security

@cafecortado We are introduce this at work.

And already rolled out for VPN. was already messy since the app isn't supported on my phone so I ended up doing some different thing to set up on the work mac. But can't transfer it to 1password which the company uses o.o

Better than it being centralized lol

    Or tracking you via biometrics

Maybe people should stop asking you for accounts, wild idea

I have easy passwords everywhere. Most cases I don't care if that service get hacked at all

@retoor Even when I recycle a couple of passwords I use. Some apps requires symbols some don't, so for things I don't log in as often (gmail for example) I often mess up a few times before I get my password right o.o

whats so hard about just using keepass?
  • 2
@thebiochemic even when you do. you are still required to grab your phone/email to enter the 2fa code
