What are your plans for Christmas?!?!!??

I normally won't engage in societal tropes like pointless, generic, smalltalk or those questions people ask for lack of independent thought/societal trope-isms....

Here's my templated answer this year:

Background = ~2k$ in piles of tech... server upgrades components, apparently the only managed switch left in business/non-custom enterprise networking in the country/indexed for sale
(2k in what I would pay.... my tech sourcing is more base level and +4 years pro exp(yea... since age 8... really))

Foreground.... a shiny ✨ī¸ new, wonderfully discounted for dumb reasons that i appreciate... 10Tb LFF HDD! đŸĨšđŸĨ˛đŸ¤Š

I really like raw data... enough raw data and proper context relevant high-level, custom, precise algorithms and i genuinely believe literally any questions or problems can be quantified and solved for

So... I just keep getting data, life, sourcing, stats on human behaviour... i factor everything

Yes i realise im very odd

//initial context plus curiousities
As parsed out to somewhat tangential commentary below... i cant keep making people go away for societally viewed polite engagement. Therefore, when asked again by factory sales rep who enjoys verbosity and apparent finds me extremely worth his intrigue/personal time

// additional context (and my attempt to be more parse and comment conscious)

With a bunch of initial reveals and launches startjng in a week and technically being the "owner/boss"(cringy to me so Ive officially made my title (anywhere with custom input fields) DragonOverlord...dragons being a tied in theme to all sects and no one can say DragonOverlord isn't a position... as it's clearly a class... unless you find a human more style code ignorant, comment inept, and in need of a very multilingual scribe to create a lexicon 2 steps before my code would be even follow-able without a likely, bad, headache and davinci code like adventure including the improbably well placed wise scholars that just happen to have significant unique and vital information they are willing to freely share with strangers.

Prime rib, bacon Mac and cheese and looking out for used Xbox series x deals. Plus I’m getting drunk as hell in about an hour and eating shrimp
  • 1
@TeachMeCode i really should start drinking more... tbh ive just been too lazy and then also really wanna do more work so i can have my data haven set up and we can just keep scaling and it'll get exponentially more entertaining and intriguing... DragonOverlord.trunc()

I want the bottles but wont waste good liquor... or that expensive fruity shit that comes in great bottles for my uses... which is worth 3x in profit over the ridiculous pseudo liquor that ive found no valid use for aside from lazy chaser for tequilla... i really need to drink my fancy tequilla in little bottles so i can use little effort and sell for ~100 each (the ~2oz sizes) and it functions as promotional ans increased clientele for relaunching (like a week) business

I have several highly unrelatable problems that other's want... like having all these problems.

Im stuck in a loop :(

@TeachMeCode not anywhere near michigan i assume?

no plans for Xmas, just 25 commits and 25 different snacks đŸĨ¨
  • 1
@awesomeest im in the New York metro area, it’s overrated!
  • 1
@awesomeest im drunk off my ass, I buy vodka bc it has the weakest hangovers so I can get as wasted as I am right now without regretting the next day. I binge on cheese when drunk, probably my stomach wanting to balance out the massive acid production. When I’m drunk I have to fight back the vomit
  • 0
Oooh just drank zzquil. I’m a dead man. I figured it’s Christmas so I can get as wasted as I want. I want to lay back in a flower field

it seems like you're locked up in the basement.

The only thing I really want this upcoming year is to have sex and eat dried fruit every single day. I don’t even care if I’m homeless. Every single day and I hope I die doing it.
  • 0
@AceDev but not on xmas? If on xmas that's literally plans for xmas.
  • 1
@TeachMeCode oh i get that... i live in literally the middle of a corn field (very intentionally) that's also the hottest spot for cars to be towed from... cuz im a 1/3rd of a mile past the last turn for Frankenmuth MI, a very intentionally created tourist town meant to look like old Bavaria (part of Germany that things like lederhosen and most things westerners falsely attribute to the other 90% of germany as stereotypical)...

It's home to the world's largest Christmas store Bronners... which is a 24/7 attraction due to the year-round quarter-mile long light display in front of it.

I stay the fuck off the roads around this time... it's like planning for a big storm by making sure u have supplies for days.

@TeachMeCode hangovers by liquor variety are typically not globally defined.
I dont tend to get hangovers (including when drinking likely way more than you or most humans should be capable of consuming without harsh risk).

I also have a no BYOB policy and tend to have a nearly full stocked bar, with a lot of small bottles of the fancy/expensive stuff... i need the bottles(glass... i like melting things and people pay me a lot to play with molten glass.) and just cant waste the liquor.

Anyone close enough to birch run michigan, youre welcome over (im literal)

    @SidTheITGuy why?

Lack of light? I dont let things like the rotation of the earth decide the light schedule/ratio of my env! Youre a conformist aren't you?

Piles of boxes? Never seen large piles of barely labeled numerous varieties of tech inside a residence before?!?!

I dont have a basement... feel free to check that factoid yourself. 11894 birch run rd, birch run Mi

Yes that's my actual address... No, I'm not being reckless/ignorant/dumb... if you own anything like a residence or land, and think it's reckless to give out your address on the internet (and dont have a team of lawyers/obfuscation methods that are ofteb costly) you're ignorant... public record and all.

@shovethisrant i have a large bag of dried cranberries shoved in a bag of granola in front of me... last hyperfocus choice of sustenance.

I also tend to have bulk beyond my means to consume of dried mangoes

Sex... well Ive been too busy to make plans/drive to meet with the consistent sources worthwhile and not annoying... they all have been finding low-paying (imo) jobs they actually care about making careers out of... *sigh*

... it's not that I'm lacking willing participants... i just have some unfortunately unchangeable prereqs for even minor enjoyment. It negates most humans as options... like i simply cant find willful ignorance attractive.. people that are intimidated by me, need explicit prompting, snowflake culture, most "romance" and basically anyone vanilla... or looking to obey me...

I really wish, tried, to ignore those factors. doesn't work. I should make a filter. Like if initial contact is, hi, unintelligible or contains: bby, lady, sweetie, etc just delete

    @jestdotty explain?
Gotta say, you're intriguing and starting to grow on me.
...I was about to type "though im pretty sure it's not mutual" but that type of statement triggers me back to my quantitative accessments... and remarkably, that's still very much so in flux and missing several variables... which is more intriguing 🤔

@jestdotty a kid off xbox thought it funny to call a small business by me and order a pizza COD... at least until i called his older brother, told him that the kid needed to fix shit or id be calling their mother next.

4min kid had his xbox status off, told lil pseudo friends he was going somewhere irl, begged me via txt chat to join a party, then what i required to not call his mom and have his brother kick his ass.

Pizza place got paid and a verbal apology, and kid did 2hrs of community service beyond the req at his school, apparently something kids make fun of nowadays.

Never had those kids spam me to join a party again (they were making bs accounts, by principle i wont change my settings due to asshats)

I see the address thing the same as most things... people who have the power/ability to do something, will if they want, address handed to them is closer to a deterrent than invitation. Dumbasses are there for amusement, like zombie games.

Btw, Kid nvr mentioned having a bro.

    I read pizza now I’m starving 🍕🍕
  • 0
Sigh…no pizza for me today lol. Woke up vomiting with a stomach bug. Possibly from tainted meatballs. Laying on the couch waiting for this to go away
  • 2
@TeachMeCode i gotta ask... why are you eating tainted balls?
  • 0
@awesomeest actually it wasn’t food poisoning from tainted meatballs, it was a stomach virus. I’m gettin better now, but feel like crap from malnutrition
  • 1
@TeachMeCode L2dev ...the whole forcing yourself to remember things like normalish food consumption is common to most devs... especially if u have adhd, which is categorically likely.

Bout a year ago for nearly 5 days all i had was a half piece of pizza and mtn dew(i typically have no pop/soda in my house, it was just there) ...culprit ended up being i was out of carrot juice (some juice thing i liked no longer exists, so i essentially recreate it... its basically half carrot juice and the rest is mango, orange and some random fruits... works great for hyperfocus grinding when i naturally ignore anything that seems like a mild chore unrelated to primary objective... like using the stove or going through dd gui to order carrot juice)

@awesomeest I have real ADHD too, diagnosed when i was 14 before the uprising in fake diagnoses by people who want their adderall or people who are just lazy in general. I have poor executive functioning and self control, and miss a lot of details no matter how many times I comb through something like a block of code. I’ve committed severe show stopping bugs bc I forget to check off boxes and I’ve gotten into alot of trouble at work because of this. Even filling out forms is hard for me.

You survived 5 days on half a pizza slice? Damn. Yesterday I barely ate anything and i woke up incredibly weak in my muscles as a result.
  • 1
@TeachMeCode well if u wanna connect off devrant ive apparently been building a company run by autistics and/or adhd for 2 years... mostly undiagnosed (i was only diagnosed at nearly 19 cuz my friends had been pegging my behaviour as "clearly autustic" or adhd for years so i was curious. Functional adult devs via fidgets (not ref those spinner things), too many people who know exactly what noob adhd mistakes youre making, implicitly forcing resolution from lack of ability to pretend you dont know youre repeating mistakes... and wtf happened the last times... it's kinda our modus operandi.
  • 0
@awesomeest I just did an adhd thing…was on eBay searching for an Xbox series x and accidentally bought an Xbox ONE X bc my adhd skipped over where it said ONE and convinced me it was a series x. Im begging the seller to cancel the damn thing before it ships
  • 1
Im amazed I didn’t die in a car accident. Im more likely to die of an injury caused by my goofy adhd than anything else. Im a living comedy
  • 0
Update: seller cancelled and refund on the way 🙏! Sheesh I swear im the luckiest guy with adhd on the planet. I’ve gotten so many second chances after all the stupid crap I’ve done that would’ve gotten me arrested or killed
  • 0
@TeachMeCode ebay is paypal... there's several ways to cancel if it hasnt been shipped
  • 0
@TeachMeCode also that's not really adhd. Its basic poor impulse control.
  • 0
@awesomeest right but poor impulse control is a symptom of adhd
  • 0
    @TeachMeCode not exactly...

    https://nhs.uk/conditions/...

The gist is: younger than adult CAN including the impulsive behaviour of quickly acting (purchases) without thinking. It's not typically in adults. Also it's something that can be we controlled, especially as an adult with basic mindfulness tactics (including things like fidgets).
Blaming that on adhd, isn't really accurate, just like someone who blames no job, no irl social interaction/friends, etc... on "anxiety" as the very vast majority of anxiety is due to essentially fear of things someone doesnt actually think through. Im not discounting the serious real cases... unless they play handicapped/victim needing free gov money... while not seeking help from any valid professionals... those people imo dont want to get better or think about anything just want pity and money

View on any handicap , physical, mental or emotional. not actively trying to solve for=no pity
  • 0
@awesomeest but that link said adults with adhd tend to take risks without regarding safety, blurting out. And no, I’m not going to ask anyone to give me money (finance is not even my issue) for “adhd strugglin” or say “please I got adhd bro don’t fire me man”. I just like to poke fun at myself for the dumb shit I did with my disorder lol.
  • 1
@TeachMeCode theres a reason they phrased things differently for adults with adhd, vs children. Most functional adults with adhd (which typically is also on a scale of sorts inattentive to impulsive) have matured past the point of doing shit on impulse... interrupting conversations to say things does tend to stick around longer. Risk seeking behaviour is common in adults with adhd... if there's some other factors, like psych ones.

Basically, imo, if you want to make fun of and blame things like impulsive purchases on adhd as an adult, you probably should learn some mitigation strategies or get some assistance... cuz that stuff can really fuck up your life if not managed well.
Im just saying this as someone whos got personal experience and a lot of adhd friends. I have a shit frame of ref for most things... but this is one of the rare things i have a solid frame a ref on.
  • 0
@awesomeest that’s interesting. Im diagnosed with adhd but maybe something else is making me impulsive but meds do help a lot with the impulse issues. Adhd does usually coexist with other disorders like depression. Im not super impulsive but it’s still an issue with me.
  • 0
Physical exercise helps a lot with it, at least for myself

My health insurance won’t cover brand name adderall anymore ☚ī¸
  • 0
@jestdotty thanks! I can still get coverage for generics adderall, for me there’s no difference between that and brand name but that’s just me and my body. Heard a lot of good about St. John’s wart, dopamine is lacking in adhd. That stem cell thing is interesting but I don’t want to try anything experimental just yet. But anything that helps dopamine reduces my adhd symptoms big time. I tend to relax after drinking coffee and adderall being a strong stimulant doesnt really give me “stimulation”, I don’t feel any cardiovascular symptoms like heart rate exploding nor do I get paranoid and nervous.
  • 1
@TeachMeCode adhd doesnt exactly mean dopamine is lacking. People with adhd are just more sensitive to dopamine spikes. Dopamine is increased by many things... pretty sure from what youve said, your diet is a major issue. Things like gambling, drugs, any addiction... even just general praise or seeing people happy from something youve done can/normally does cause a dopamine spike. A close dev friend, fullstack for sure but is naturally a game dev, he gets his dopamine highs from front end dev (and is fully aware of this fact). The big thing most people dont realise (u can easily google it) is that simple carbs (sugar, processed grain... etc) spike dopamine. It's why most "comfort food" exists. For us with adhd, it can be quite addicting... especially in hyperfocus coding sessions or typical 20s when you get used to grabbing starchy junk food (like pizza) often.

Youll crave those foods when your dopamine runs low. Habitually, it makes it harder to maintain dopamine levels at all.

@awesomeest mmmmm pizza and pasta, a lot of Italian blood in me lol so I go crazy over that. Ate pork most of my life as well. I’ll give that more of a read tomorrow, it’s late and I’m drunk. But it should give me a different and interesting perspective.

All I can say is whatever adderall is doing for me is the most effective treatment for my adhd, I recall accidentally taking 2 pills instead of my prescribed dose of one and I felt like I could sit around and read the most boring book on the planet (like a book on leaves or something, this is subjective I get it ) and retain everything. It’s a combination of being “smart” and having the attention span to get things done, and the latter is what I naturally don’t have.
  • 0
And my mother has the complete opposite of adhd, she has attention surplus disorder and always super organized. I still drive her crazy at times, sadly even as an adult who moved out many many years ago.
  • 1
@TeachMeCode definitely not doubting the effects of adderall. That said, the dopamine thing is real and still applies with or without adderall.

As someone who's been on adderall, and basically every type of addictive/tolerance building drug class known to mankind (somewhat serious health conditions), you want to take the least amount of *whatever* cuz it gets less effective over time, not more.
  • 0
@jestdotty I have auditory processing disorder too. Another thing, adderall tends to kill my appetite and at night if I dont fall asleep fast enough i stay late raiding the fridge which is terribly unhealthy. I did that last night, filled my gut with a turkey from subway and leftover pot roast as my appetite was out of this world. Now I feel like shit, I can’t code anything bc my brain capacity plummeted to the depths due to sleep deprivation and have the endurance of a walrus with an aneurysm
  • 1
    @jestdotty @TeachMeCode
Im adept at audio processing... but i think a great deal of that is done as a background process later on.
But a dev friend i respect has an issue with audio processing. Apparently the monotone computer generated text to audio is easier for him. Back in 2nd grade i found out that i could have Microsoft Sam do the audio for boring books i refused to waste time reading, while i was asleep and i would ace the tests... at least the multiple choice.

@jestdotty whoops!! I thought you were @awesomeest for a minute! I don’t know why I confused you two, I guess it’s how formally you both speak and you both being blonde women. That’s the other brain fart I had other than realizing I labeled 4 files with .tsx
when I meant to include the .ts extension (tsx-jsx with typescript vs ts-plain typescript file). Took me 3 days to realize. I’ve been totally out of it this whole week

@TeachMeCode im restraining myself from a down vote

@awesomeest uh oh, sorry please don’t! Wasn’t trying to upset anyone 😅
  • 1
@TeachMeCode im way cuter than jest... and much less obfuscating.
  • 0
@awesomeest sorry, I got a hint she’s blonde by her avatar. I don’t know what she looks like in real life. I was going by avatars and not how you both look in person. Let’s be cool now 👍.
  • 1
    @TeachMeCode im definitely cooler too

I just polished off my type system in typescript, made it real nice and now I’m about to pass out đŸ˜ĩđŸ˜ĩ
