So... This company was in trouble. They hire me to help fix things and build this nice new stack to get rid of their old legacy monster application.
I'm there for three weeks when one of their top investors storms in. Apparently they are turning less profit than they told me during my interview. (Yeah, it is one of the things I always ask, even thought I don't always get an answer).
So this investor/shareholder guy starts on this motivation speech which is basically a veiled threat that "we" need to do better.
Obviously he doesn't know anyone in the room other than the boss. And it was apparent, at least to me, he also has 0% knowledge of anything related to software development. The boss doesn't look to happy about having to let this happen.
Then the guy turns to me. He points his finger at me and demands to know how failing so badly makes me feel...
So I answered truthfully... "I've only been here for three weeks, so I don't think I've been failing too much, yet. Now, how long did you say you've been throwing money at this failure without getting the return you wanted?" Emphasizing the "you" by pointing right back at him.
That doesn't shut the guy up, but he does bring his "motivational" speech to a rapid close.
He doesn't bother saying goodbye when he stormed out again, not even to the boss, who looks a lot happier at this point.
Apparently the guy pulled this stunt every couple of months (or weeks, if he was bored enough). After this encounter, he apparently had enough of trying to "motivate" us developers. We I didn't see him again in the 2 years I worked with the company after that.
I got a pay raise the month after. Apparently that was totally unrelated to this incident... 😙🎵12
So my friend started a YouTube channel, being the motivational man I am I encouraged him and made him a logo for his channel.
It started here, he called me a bazillion times every single day asking me to make stuff like Channel banners, intros.
He even went so far to call my design bad and that I could do better.
I'm definitely losing my hold on my generosity, it's like this with every single fucktard I help. It's like programmers don't get to have a life, people pitch me stupid ideas at every party.. Having a casual conversation a guy starts talking about an idea.
Oooh... And the worst part they say you can have 60% and just give them 40% 'MINORITY' share for coming up with an idea I could pull up from my arse instantaneously
Next time he asks me something I'm gonna fuck him up or just charge him a bazillion dollars... FUCK FUCK FUCK... REALLY GOT TO BUY THAT STUPID STRESS CUBE15
Why are you
guys making me
So I have 600 LinkedIn contacts.
Most are recruiters.
So my feed is flooded with recruitement rants.
And success stories like this:
How they hired the guy who had
A 10 year gap in his employment.
Because they had to take care.
Of their sick pet hamster.
Hiring him was one of their best decisions.
He was a stellar employee.6
and they say programmers don't have a sense of humor. the company said to buy some motivational posters for the meeting room. this is what we came up with.4
I don’t have a degree, nor has a degree ever prevented me from being hired / doing my job.
Now that’s not to say all businesses / companies will over look your education section on the CV, But for me it’s never been a problem.
F*** all this motivational/inspirational shit going on nowadays. We don't need cold showers, wake up 4:30 AM, or sacrifice time with loved ones just because our ego wants to be successful.
What if I don't want it, what if I just want to BBQ some chickens, drink Red Bull, and watch some Netflix shows until I die.
I don't want to own a Lamborghini, big apartment, live in a warm place with a nice view over the blue ocean, etc. This is just an illusional life-style story that every single person in the world wants, and the reason is so media and commercial companies can trick people to buy whatever they want.
I don't give a shit, we'll all die someday, I don't need these things in my life to make me feel happy or complete. I've seen people with everything, yet they commit suicide because the inner self is broken.
Just be happy with whatever you have, and stop going after things that won't really make you happy. The fact you have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hands to feel is worth billions in itself.
I look at this nowadays so often during office just that I don't quit this fucking job all because of work load and dumbass and asshole manager4
Boss: Hey, you were in that "Pike place fish market session" today. How was it?
Me: well, it was really motivational and inspiring. I learned few new things.
Boss: Great! Also let me tell you that you're again our employee of the week and we're considering you for the employee of the year award. No one got nominated so early in the job here.
Boss: So you wanted to talk to me. What was it about?
Me: Oh, I wanted to resign. Already sent the mail to you.4
Hashedram's compilations #1
List of most annoying website designs.
1) Pages with AUTO PLAYING VIDEOS.
Yes I'm looking at you Netflix. Along with every news website known to man. I'm looking to read a fucking article, so why would you even waste your money and bandwidth trying to shove a video of some shit I don't care about in my face, and make it follow me as I scroll down like a fucking insecure puppy. Also, fuck you Instagram.
2) Pages that redirect once immediately after you visit them, thereby fucking with the browser history and the BACK BUTTON just leads back to the same fucking site.
I mean, just why. Did you think I would just go "Hey the back button doesn't work so let's stay on the site and read their awesome content"?
3) Sites showing things in a SLIDESHOW, when it actually should be in a list.
Slideshows are for progressive stories or for showing lists where you don't care about what's in them. Top 10 foods that reduce weight. Slideshow 1/15. Fuck you.
4) LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE USING AN AD BLOCKER
Yes. Yes I am. No I will not turn it off for you, you narcissistic snowflake fuck. And don't even try to guilt shame me into turning it off, because I know you're just going to bombard me with videos of sexy singles in the area if I do.
5) Pages where I see the first 3 lines of an article and have to SUBSCRIBE to see more.
Yes. Brilliant fucking idea. A user wants to see what your site has to offer, so within the first three seconds, don't show him exactly that.
6) Looking up an article and having to read through the entire motivational life story of the author.
I just want to know how to boil eggs, not read about your journey across Africa learning how to make difference recepies using boiled rhino dung.
7) CLICK BAIT.

Managers who always want their employees to turn on their webcam, what is wrong with you? I've done this willingly once in my life because a colleague asked nicely and said she just wanted to put a face on these names she works with. I personally don't need it but I can understand what she meant. But no, I will not do that stupid big ass video conference where everyone turns on their webcam and you post a screenshot of it on LinkedIn with some dumb ass motivational garbage. I simply do not want my face on that. Hell, I don't even want my name on it. I know I joked about it in a previous post but seriously, just fuck off.
My webcams are taped shut for a reason. I don't intend to use them, ever. You don't need to see my face to be able to work with me and I honestly do not care if you look like a troll or a goddamn porn star. Just do your job and I do mine. Even though we are working remotely, the distance doesn't change the fact that I hate this kind of interaction and the more you force me to do it, the more anti-social I become.18
So the company I work for had a critical project they needed done in 8 days.
We told our boss it wasn't possible because of the scope of the project but he went on with motivational speeches about how anything is possible. So he hired 12 devs for 8 days.
The scope of the project is already big enough but everyday upper management either add 10 new features, modify 2, or delete some already.
We basically sleep 2 hours a day and today is the last day. 5 minutes ago we just had a meeting that we're supposed to change a core feature. We don't even have a stable system yet and everyone is fucking pissed.14
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. " After a day like today, I thought my self-esteem would need this quote.6
Crappy team bonding or conference days where you spend the day away from your machine listening to motivational speeches from arsehole senior managers!!
"And don't forget everyone, there's no I in team."
"No, but there's a U in cunt."2
Watch Social Network, Snowden, or any IT movies, and motivational videos
Also I’m goku fan
I'm about to trashtalk another presentation. The guy looks like he's gay but in denial. He made dumb jokes just like the previous host but worse because he laughs at himself and calls the other HR's name for support.
Then he showed us a video about the company's origin and it has that mellow music people use as a background for their inspirational Youtube videos. You know that shit they do where they mix in comments from different people and it has this echoing effect like when some dude talks about Elon, "He worked X hours a week" then his mother's voice will come in and say, "Elon has always been a bright child with a small PP." The whole time, they're showing either some slow motion of people doing things or a sped up video of clouds. Shit like that. I'm sure there's one big automatic filter called "Cringe Effect".
Anyway, he talked about how the CEO started the company in debt and some conversation about him borrowing XX million dollars from a friend. KRRRINGE. The conversation was so candid, it was obviously made up or oversimplified to make him look like some genius. The attempt to make it inspirational was just out there. "Uh-huh, I didn't have money so I took a risk and borrowed millions from my friend. Now look at me, I'm so successful because I took the risk and I'm a fucking genius. If I can do it, so can you. Too bad you don't have rich friends though."
How many people hear stories like this and decide they can borrow a shit ton of money to start a business and then fail? I'm pretty sure those who actually rich billionaire status like this guy did are very few and yet we are fed these bullshit stories on a daily basis and instead of people just laughing at the satire that it is, they take it seriously and follow it.
Then the host talked about how the CEO is a simple man. Loooool, didn't he just bought a Tesla? But of course, how can you inspire if you don't make someone simple enough to be relatable. Im jUsT LyK U! At this point, I tuned out everything the guy was saying and just laughed my ass off this premium afternoon entertainment.
You can present the company history without the motivational garbage. It is impressive in all its growth and accomplishments. There's no need to add cringe. What really killed me was imagining Bill Burr reading the script, mocking it, and laughing like a psycho. That's how he lost most of his sponsors, by the way.
If (god forbid) I become a CEO or some billionaire, I hope no one makes a presentation like this about me. I will fire, report abuse, and yell in the comments.7
Talk with a co-worker who has a bit of a motivational problem.
Him: if I had more fun, I would be more productive.
Me: you're not here for fun, that's why they pay us.
Him: how are you motivated?
Me: by money.
A bit later.
Him: do you plan for retirement some day?
Me: no. By then, there won't be retirement anymore. We will eat fried rats in the street.
He starts understanding why I'm wearing black metal shirts.10
Once upon a time I sent my CV to a handful of companies. Just for fun I mailed them my physical CV copies + personal statement/motivational letter (3 pages total).
Right at the end of the horribly formatted 12pt Comic Sans pages it read:
"Turn pages to read the Helvetica version".
Never actually wanted those jobs anyway...2

Before I became a Computer Engineer, (actually, this job is where I learned I loved programming) our manager would pull us into a team motivational meeting.
Except she was a bit of an airhead, so her idea of motivation was having a sing-song and listing our favorite movie quotes.
It was even funnier because there was lots of drama surrounding "how she became our manager," and one of our teammates felt as though she should have gotten the job.
Anyway, none of those were the most ridiculous meeting.
The most ridiculous meeting was when the VP of marketing came to town from Florida to address the brewing drama.
In this meeting, all of my teammates suddenly had the delusion that we were in a union and thought they were protected from getting fired. They threw our manager under the bus. I was the only one who could see that he was there to see if our department was worth saving. They thought they were going to get rid of our manager by shitting on her, but they were just confirming his suspicion that there was a bunch of bullshit going on all around.
So I approached the VP after the meeting, and long story short, I was the only one who got through layoffs with a job offer in Florida a couple weeks later.
I didn't take it, because by that time I decided I wanted to go to school for Computer Engineering.1
I get inspired when scrolling through devrant.. It is like a motivational therapy after a long day of caffeine and coding.. :d1
Updated goal in regards to my road to machine learning mastery.

On another note, the sony xperia compact is a real nice device, so is the note 8. I would prob go with the note for power but the size of the xperia is more convenient for my taste.2
Is it just me or Social media has made everyone philosophers automatically.
Like pretty dumb and hopeless folks you know in real life be posting some smart and motivational shit they copied off of some random site.
Dude get your dumbass off my screen mehn...coming around here giving advice on how to make my life better...have you seen your life lately?
It can't be just me...13
Whenever we need something at the office, like someone to change a lightbulb or fix the printer or whatever.....
The techs literally come running lmao
These b the perks of the manager being absolutely gorgeous lmao. It really does help and I have never seen such effective motivational variable7
Time management tips one must follow to be successful:-
1. Remove distractions:- Phone, Whatsapp, Instagram, FB, etc. All away from you during work.
2. Remove clutters: Get rid of not required things.
3. Eliminate redundancy
4. Emulate others: (My favourite) If someone has spend time and done some work. Do not reinvent the same work done just replicate that work and continue from that point.
5. Share burden: Team work and depending on others is not bad.
6. Make work fun: Most important if you enjoy your work you will give your best.5
YOU. If you can't be arsed to change the default wallpaper, the terminal/gtk theme on a fucking laptop you use everyday, turn off Intel graphics screen rotation shortcuts, move the taskbar somewhere, install a Vue.js/Augury (Angular tool) Chrome plugin so you can actually debug stuff, Git for Windows or even this fucking trash of a player that is VLC, comb your hair the other way for once in your fucking lifetime if you have it, buy a different shirt than the same one you already have, fucking anything at all - fuck you!
BTW Don't be surprised when I don't take your fucking advice about the layout of the site I'm working on.
Also I secretly FUCKING HATE YOU just because.
Nothing personal kiddo. Except it is.
Fucking go out there and make the world around more suited to your tastes, every fucking human has them! Just change the fucking wallpaper, so I'll know you have at least a little bit of fucking personality in you! Slap a pic of some hi-rez tits on that screen! ANYTHING AT ALL.
Whew. That's been brewing in me for a long time.
A motivational doggo for you lads.4
I'm fucked on wine so I'm just going to fucking rant this one out.
Noticed and only by random chance that a comment I made was gone, and though huh. What the fuck. Have I been downvoted to hell? Nah, I don't think so. Then why?
Ah, post is gone. Wait, what? THE POST IS GONE? WHY.
I hate you for deleting shit. You got that? I. HATE. YOU. It's not about your background, your ethnicity, your gender or how much of a fucking voidstar your heart is. I don't give a single fuck about THAT.
But you deleted a GODDAMN RANT? I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. That is now a moment that might as well have never existed. You have basically given me the virtual equivalent of a blackout. You've STOLEN my time.
And all for what? Nothing, big ole pile of fuck & nuthin. You're a goddamn chicken man. Do and do not regret. Act like a MAAANNN.
I tell you this is the first problem. Cowardice. This is THE very first problem. Shit has to be done but them be afraid-ers. And not even behind the keyboard you can muster some balls. THAT is an insult. A very serious one.
And don't gimmie your sob story, fuck you. I'm under minimum wage and my wife is dead. I don't use that to justify shit. That'd be disgraceful. Have some fucking BAWLZ man. Step up, own up, or shut the fuck up.
Yadda, yadda, might come off as an attack. Well what you basically launched was an attack, on a much broader scale that this. So what. Aren't we all grownups? Sorry, I thought this wasn't fucking kindergarten. Express yourself. Talk it out. If you think there's an issue, then the LEAST you can do is bring it up. And I support on you on that. But if you can't stand to do even that then why in the fuck are you opening your mouth in the first place. Or writing, in this case. You get the idea.
I'm gonna go in circles probably but what the hell. I blame the USA. So sensitive about words. Not so sensitive when launching drone strikes, but that's a sotry for another day. Don't get political on me or I'll haunt your dreams, that is a promise, one I can certainly keep. You don't know about my arcane powers.
Also what IS a bias. I have some vague idea of what BIOS is but not bias. Sounds funny as fuck to me. Prejudice bad? Ya sure yet everybody is higher than shit on prejudice. Sniffup that thing, man. Ugh. That's good. There's some kids in my neighborhood, literally sitting right around the corner, slanging yeyo. They ain't got shit. The mother fucking police takes most of their illicit earnings, funny enough. You think they ain't buried up to their necks in solid shit? Ah, but what YOU go through is so terrible, people are so mean.
You're soft like a newborn, Pippin. But you're not a baby anymore. Grow a fucking pair. Go out there and tell 'em they suck. You can do it babyboy. This is now motivational harassing. GET IT TOGETHER.
I got lost now and don't want to rewind this. But I'm going to lead by example now and click POST on this viscous, stinking dump of a rant, and bear all of the "NEGATIVITY" in order to show you how it's done. You're welcome.
One more thing fix the fucking image uploading because I miss the spicy memes, goddamit. I need another drink.8
Go find the most cancerous Instagram page in the "coding community" and multiply it by 10.
Bonus points if they:
>>post vague and utter bullshit motivational captions with completely irrelevant pictures.
>>Have the word "entrepreneur" in their bio
>>Have emojis in their bio
>>Mention coffee in their bio
Oh and you know the shitty clean versions of songs that filter out anything that is slightly offensive words? (I recently heard a song that filtered the words "balls" and "vagina." Apparently anatomy is offensive to the snowflakes now.) That's gonna happen to our code. We're gonna have shitty censored versions that remove all "offensive" words.5
Me been in the company for almost more than a year now and still understanding the system.
Another developer, been here for around 4 months, and where ever I look, she will be contributing. Whether it's coding or resovling complex host issues. She works a lot.
I feel lucky to be able to work with her and also all other Devs in this team are awesome.
My motivational source and inspiration to work harder and contribute more and more to the team.
I have my personal motivator @YourNemesis to help me through the days when my self-motivation doesn't work at all.
I usually try and identify the reason for low motivation or no motivation at all, then talk myself through it and remind myself of my goals and what I want for myself. My goals motivate me.
I also have different motivational quotes/one liners up on my room's door and my cupboards door. Attaching an image of one such things that I wrote by myself and looking at it works for me on highly unproductive days. Hope this approach helps to some of you guys too on here.3
Wisdom tooth is trying to burst through my fucking gum, but it's still less annoying than a friend I have who:
- Constantly posts shitty 'inspiring' quotes on his facebook and tags everyone on his friendlist in 'em.
- Watches motivational speakers and constantly links you up to them.
- Tells you to 'aim higher' or to 'look for a job in a bigger company' or I won't achieve 'the success'.
..bitch, what kind of success have you achieved to tell me what to do with my god damn life?4
template for motivational letter for Sys admins:
PS. I use Arch btw
Now I can easily scrap motivational quotes, Hell Yeah.
* btw I am building random quotes generator but want to generate quotes with web-scraping *9
My fiance is also a developer, we moved to a bigger city and she is looking for a job. She lost all motivation and doesn't want to look at any code anymore... Not even my freelance projects.. Does anyone have any motivational things to say? She doesn't use devrant, but i'll show her this post.3
u know when zucc held that motivational interview of when u do something big or new and u need to expect failure by just running through the walls?
well i ran through at least 10,000 walls by now in this one project and i think i stumbled upon the biggest trump-big-dick-tower-level-mexican-wall i have ever seen.
i have to halt here and learn something entirely new in order to climb this wall bc its complex as Ffffuck3
I would like to present you the story that I tell everyone who is afraid of expectations, stressed to impress interviewers etc. Story about how I got my first job.
A little of backstory:
I always was good with computers, not like expert, but good. Of course parents were against giving me admin rights, so I just played games or such. When time came to choose my path throgh life, I've chosen to go medicine-related way, and chosen high school with such profile. I did my exams terribly, cause I never cared about marks, so I applied to uni for Information and Communication Technology course. I've learned basics of coding there, much stuff I don't really need right now, but in the end it was the best choice I've made.
With that way too long prologue...
I had to do internship for my uni and decided to try and find some year earlier. There was a lecture about multiplatform coding held by company my uni had partnership with. I've filled a questionare and few weeks later they invited me for assessment - event where they will choose who is good enough.
Of course I didn't believe in my chances to win an internship (1st place got full time job). There were 3 stages:
- solo coding (C/C++ own implementation of list)
- group designing (UML and presentation according to specification)
- interview (talking about code from stage 1, some questions, theory)
I failed 1st stage miserably... so I decided to don't give a shit and bravely presented our group project. A guy asked why we did not included a thing on UML, so I told him that it was not in specification - he was suprised but took it as big +. We "won" that part. When it came to interview... I was myself, cool headed, admited when I don't know things.
I thought that was it.
Few weeks later I received email - they invited me for internship.
They put me into Python project, language that noone in our trainee team knew. Told us 2/4 will be hired. At first I was not interested, wanted to finish my degree. But they convinced me. Now I'm here +2 years.
I am aware there are not many companies like that. Here, the people matters - you don't have to know everything, as long as you are getting along with others.
My tip for you though is: BE YOURSELF, NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY 🎶
And I wish us more companies like that.😉1
"It's very unfortunate that someone has to sit 10 hours a day on a computer screen but that's what we are paying for."
Working with an EU client.
Task is in stages beginning from assessment of an 9 year old Salesforce instance, cleanup and then transition to lightning.
The deliverabale in the first stage is excel sheet - objects(2400+), fields, apps, packages, profiles(110k), users, perm sets, apex classes, triggers, pages, s-controls and insert each and everything that a Salesforce instance could have.
Each and every data needs to be, analyzed and documented with our recommendations before being sent over. (Finding duplicates in 110k profiles??)
Oh, did I tell you, this was to be done four weeks? Weekend goes to hell.
That's when this beautiful motivational line comes up from the bridge, "It's very unfortunate that someone has to sit 10 hours a day on a computer screen but that's what we are paying for."
Fortunately(un?), that part of project is done and over with.
Now comes the clean up, identify packages not being used, remove them, qa and then push for deployment.
Mind you, this project is to be 2 weeks long. Its Friday of the first week today. And I am still working weekends.
Can I say, FML?5
After a particularly social weekend it’s important to have a motivational buddy to get you back in the game!
You all heard of the debugging duck, meet the motivational duck...
“If your duck can see its reflection - your not developing enough” ;)
*some motivational guy in my brain* : "if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. get out of your comfort zone. the earlier yoh make a move, the be-.."
*some meek guy in my brain* : "but I have worked years on this domain , trying to get better and comfortable with it"
*motivational guy* : shut up am trying to make a point
*meek guy* : but wh-
.*some random guy from somewhere* : "dudes..., lets watch some porn"
*all three in unison* : yes6
I used to love my job, the guy that looked forward to mondays, there was always something new to learn, I was passionate about clean code and learning new languages like Elixir. As a software engineer I thought my occupation had a special significance in this world, I saw possibility and potential of creating something so impactful on the world that it would become my legacy.
Now after 5 years I’m realising that none of this stuff really matters to the world, software engineers aren’t special and it’s evident from our salaries how valuable we are compared to other professions in sales, medicine or law. My friend who works as in customer success management makes more than me.
While some of us will be in the lucky few whose work will change the world, most of us will just be another cog in the wheel, all that matters is how many product/features you ship out, nobody gives a shit about code quality, concurrency and architecture design other than us6
You know, it's way past 2 AM and I'm insomniac (as usual) and ... I'm overthinking. Someone distract me plz until I fall asleep.
...on another note, if you can, show me a motivational video that has actually motivated you.18
If all the 24 years of my life have taught me anything, it’s that I am not at all good at time management.
That’s why I am always stressed. And I hate that I just can’t seem to make it better. Short motivational bursts are good, but I need a permanent solution!4
If you guys want some motivational coding music, try this. These guys are absolutely amazing. A treat to the ears.
Tired of all those timetables, application, motivational quotes ...
Coded my own assistant : Robo1100
Still full of ifs but properly understands what I mean (I don't have s very wild vocabulary )
Can I call it artificial intelligence?
Some of his features:
- determining current tasks according to date and time
- tracks the task and show you how many percent you've done
- plays different musics according to your mood (if you start nagging he'll play motivational rock and so on)
- does simple calculations for you
-gives you simple informations like time , whether,...
- remind you the events of the day
- reads a rsnfom cool quote at startup
- most importantly speaks with s human voice
The best motivational comment
I posted a rant in which I mentioned that "few" developers who don't want other to progress and are present to show off at every platform....
Got a comment, which I want to share...
Thanks to @MrCush
Ya, most of them tend to stalk the stack overflow and Arch Linux communities. On stack overflow they tend to refresh their browser nonstop to see who their next victim is on a new question and then spend an abnormal amount of time searching the site for a similar question and then downvote you and report as a duplicate. “Umm ya, the question you linked is similar to mine. I found that one as well but unfortunately it wasn’t in the same environment with the same conditions that I raised and didn’t help me. Oh btw, he posted that back in 2002 and HEY LOOK, he got reported for a duplicate as well. Seems like you reported him as well.”
The issues of arrogance and being unhelpful on that site are so vast that nobody else that registers can get enough points to be able to be allowed to answer someone else’s question so you never get any new blood.
Arch Linux “elites” like to answer your question with a link that you’ve already been to as they always link the same site. “Dude! There’s a wiki for a fucking reason. Did you read this page?”
Yes I did read that page and it was helpful to a degree but since I’m absolutely new to Arch, a lot of the information on the wiki is a bit too descriptive and over my head. Not to mention every paragraph links you to another wiki page which then links you to another and so on that I have no idea where I left off....
“Dude! If you don’t understand everything on the wiki then you shouldn’t be using Arch Linux man! Gtfo scrub.”
Took me a long time to get comfortable with Arch because of these assholes. You got to start somewhere and doing is the best way to learn.
Reading the wiki on how to install Arch now seems so simple to me because I know what to ignore and what is required but back when I first started it was absolutely confusing.
Ohhh my god am I furious and this one's a gem.
Also I'm gonna namespoil all of the entities in my post. If this is against rant rules I'll reframe it.
So the story starts over an year ago. Me, being in a bad place, where I couldn't do a job due to external issues, wanted to try out an internship. Thought I could pull off a 5 hour shift and then attend to my problems.
THE INTERNSHALA ARC:
I apply to a bunch of applications on Angel, Internshala and Indeed.
I was contacted by a few handful of these places. One of them was called "ARCHITECTA SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS". These guys had arranged an online aptitude test for me which I promptly took.
I looked up this company and they seemed like a pretty okay big firm from the outset but didn't have many reviews on Glassdoor and likes of such. (first red flag). Post aptitude test, I was quite sure I fucked up and wouldn't get further contact. Surprisingly, a person from the company sends me his Whatsapp number over chat and asks me to save it. The message is worded like a bulk email (Starting with Hello everyone!!) which I thought was quite odd since the interaction from these platforms has always been a person-to-person contact for me. Since Internshala showed that only around 40 people applied for the position I was quite intrigued but attributed this to my lack of exp in internship operations.
THE WHATSAPP ARC:
I was contacted by the number on WhatsApp saying that they'd be interested in moving forward and I gave them my work experience details.
The person sends me over a development assignment to complete within a few days. The assignment consists of massive scope of details. I'm talking production level concept and implementation. Asks to me implement a custom emotion detection CV model (worded as "emotion camera" lmao), generate a 3d model (specified nowhere and expects to implement a mono-ocular system for the curious) and deploy it over AWS with a website to go along with it and also host that. The website should contain a VR ("360 rotatable") view that can explore the depth-map ("not worded as depth-map") of the face. My first assumption was that they had picked this work up for outsourcing and didn't bother to chip off parts so as to create an assignment out of it (I know very optimistic).
So I shoot it at him on WhatsApp asking which parts of the assignment should I do?
Him: So, which parts CAN you do?
I thought of it as an HR thing.
Me: I could do most of it but given the time-frame of the assignment and my applied position as a web developer it is perhaps out of scope for my application.
Him: Don't worry about the assignment. You can submit when you complete the whole assignment.
I was visibly angry over the stupidity of this man.
Me: This task is a Full-Stack + CV + VR task. It will take over two months to get working. Am I supposed to work on it for that long for an assignment?
Him: Okay just do the basic functionalities like add to cart. But also try to do the camera thing before next week.
At this point I'm sure that they are having trouble handling an eager client and they're offloading work to interns. So I do only the backend and minimal frontend and submit the assignment (a 2 day job done over a weekend).
Nothing. Empty. No messages since then. I tried sending in a Whatsapp message on the application and how to proceed. Then, if I could get to know if I have been rejected. Nothing.
And all this time I can clearly see the account is active as it pushes pretentious motivational quotes over it's Whatsapp status.3
just having a stream of woke moments and thought i should share.
1. about IDEs. When someone tells you "you are wrong" , you ask them why. But when someone tells you "You are wrong, here's the correct way to do this" , you might not be as tempted to ask them why as to just accept their solution without much research.
in the latter scenario, you will end up like a robot with just mugged up knowledge base of things being fed to them .
Sometimes i think jetbrains have understood it and they are more and more trying to make me their robot bitch , when it highlights my code as yellow and wants me to change. Thus its very important to research and not just say "because my IDE gave me a warning for writing code like that"
2. About governments : I like cold fusion videos, and recently saw this one on huawei vs usa : https://youtu.be/HExhxPDOewE
Just having this thought that country government treats themselves like some billionare family elders and their companies like their children. They think that we are rich because of our children doing great business at home and outside and give motivational talks /leverages to their children (as in china giving tech talk about wanting to be world's most powerful by 2025 amongst its companies) .
They are equally jealous of other countries gaining power and don't wanna see them rise. Like USA thinking "I am giving business to china's son huawei. how come that china threaten my power by the money i gave it to them" and so it attacked china's child huawei.
The reason could be either being jealous/scared of other country's growth, being protective of their own country , some genuine concern or any other thing, but they would just make small scale wounds like this, not a direct blow or total cutoff.
3. about life. Every system is broken. Every person/place/thing you think you can rely on is unreliable. There is no certainty of anything and probability rules the world. You can either whine about it or adjust to it for your own personal growth.
I have always whined about how shitty my college is and how the teachers suck and not doing their jobs. That's a small part of reality : In actual, no one whom you expect to do you good is doing it correctly : government is super corrupt and ain't doing their job of keeping people safe and healthy, your parents might not able to provide you a stable future, your college might not teach you beneficial stuff, your partner might not give you as happiness as you want, NOTHING. keep whining about it and keep losing
But another point of view is redefining the expectations . YOU ARE A HUMAN WITH AN ABILITY TO HEAR ,THINK AND ACT . so that's what you should be doing. the whole world , your parents, your teachers, your government, everyone around you is supposed to give you directions and small tips that you are supposed to hear , research, think and act on them.
In that manner, everyone but you is doing their job correctly: For me, My college gave me shitty teachers, but they would provide labs with internet and books with buzzwords, and seniors with good paying jobs . I was supposed to use them to find a path in my life that would be interesting and paying .
The parents are not supposed to create an empire for their children, rather support them in their endeavors
The government um... i guess is supposed to be shitty? So that native small scale companies can grow, provide employment and let people generate revenues. Can't think much about that, woke moment is over
I am enrolled in a full time course (bachelor of Engineering, Computer Engineering), currently in second year, will be in third by June 2017, and I have a job offer from a Japan Based Company, so it legal to do the job while being enrolled in a full-time course? Also, if I drop from the course and focus on job, so will that be good?
The package is really good, but the degree is important (at-least in India), I want to know about other parts of the world also.
I am inclined towards joining the job, but then it frightens me as the culture here is (degree is important, talent is not!), but I have faith in myself, after watching many motivational videos on youtube, I feel like following my passion, but then I need to be practical as well.
What to do, what not to do? I need your help, please let me know what are your views?4
Visited three book stores today.
Most books about software development on shelves were about :
Many motivational books ( almost half ) about how to become software developer just because “it’s a dream job” without any interesting content.
Less books about c/c++, networking.
Microsoft is still present with certification and windows and I didn’t saw any linux book.
So pretty much the same as it is now.6
I love this wk108 tag. Have a lot of stories related to it.
For me , my mentors are the reason i am what i am today. In this crazy selfish world where people only want to run faster than the others, having nice helping people around is great.
(1)class 6-10th, xx is a curious, but poor boy with no desktop/mobile , but still loves cs classes due to various ,caring teachers.
(2) class 11th end, programming for the first time that year, hates programming, one day when everybody goes out for lunch, xx tears down while talking to his cs teacher "why can't i score good marks when i was the best till 10th? Is programming so tough?" . I remember him giving me a little but greatest motivational lecture followed by 40 minutes of the most basic concepts in which i might had asked him a 1000 questions. "You are my chaempion", he used to say😂 (bad accent) . But god, if he hadn't motivated me that day, i swear i would have left all this and go for business. Thank-you, lokesh sir💗💗
First year : tried to go for a competitive learning course. Mann, am not cool in that stuff. Again was about to break (i was among the top scorers in school boards and had designed many small games back then. I should have been good here too, but nah... the other guys were like bullets .)
Oh my, my deepest bow to this amazing teacher SUMEET MALIK (oh sir, you were so good) .
How this guy taught? Well, he first explained the concept. Fo those who understood, he gave them question 'A', for those who didn't, he repated . For those who understood , can do question a again, and those eho did A already gets an even advance question B. And this cycle went on until the weakest student(usually me) understood the concept.
And no, it never happened even once that class finished with even a single child not doing all questions he gave.he used to teach very less concepts each class and would go to everybody's desk to check they understood the concept, the question, its working, weather we implemented or not and weather our implementation is correct or not +our doubts. Hell , i even took doubts with him for hours after the class and he always just smiled💗(oh sir, am so sorry for being so dumb)
Real Doubt classes, doubts on whatsApp, revision assignments , tests , competitions,... damn, i haven't seen a teacher with this much dedication. At one point of time, that institution was famous for our Sumeet sir's classes 😂
Then last year, i got another mentor . Harshit bhiya. The guy is awesome, and a little extra swaggy 😂. He got a lot of chill, with his big AAD badge, a bag full of stickers and his every day association with people at udacity and google. As always i tried to overwhelm him with my ton of doubts in class, but he use to just give me a few pointers/links, after which i was like quiet for the complete session😂. He gave me a lot to think/work upon and i got a kind of career to work on.
I also think of mentioning a fucked up depressing-bot assholic friend of mine, but he don't deserve to be in this list of my best people. Just fuck you mann with a blockchain of dicks, if you are reading this.1
I dunno if any of my choices have been "bad". Humans are great at explaining things to themselves to feel better. Narratives is our strength and we love them.
In hindsight everything seems to be a correct choice and kinda makes sense. For everything else is just a lesson to learn from.2
Hi I just joined this great Community and here is my thoughts about programming tap "++" if you agree if not then change your mind.
For me programming is like becoming wizard of next generation. Like wizard you can control or create anything because in future you will find electronics containing programs written by a wizard (programmer). We are not people who can repair computer but greater then that because a pc is just a box without programs (software)
You are reading this article because you loves challenges and you are hard working too.1
I like to develop a Social Network for my final year project. You have any suggestions ? It will really help me to develop.
And I like to make it as an Open source project.8
I want you to make that dream become a reality, because if you don't, you will be working for somebody else to make their dreams become a reality.
Listen to me, if it was easy, everybody would do it. There are people right now who are working who don't want to work. There are people who hate their jobs, but they keep getting up to do it.
I'm here to tell you, number one, that most of you say you wanna be successful but you don't want it bad, you just kinda want it. You don't want it badder than you wanna party. You don't want it as much as you wanna be cool.
So what I'm telling you is, when you want something bad you can't count the cost. Because if you count the cost and you see how much it costs. You might quit, you might give up. So you gotta go in knowing that I don't count the cost.
You just do whatever it takes, to get whatever you want! Boom! 👊 😎 👍3

Now I know :
Hacker wallpaper , motivational quotes, drinking dark coffee, listening to metal music, wearing black hoodies and other stuff like this ...
WON'T MAKE ME ANYTHING !
I feel like a dummy :/8
I think after 3 months of lockdown my colleagues transformed into 🥝 or something
Yeah here's the new account
No password for it in database
This prevents from updating password
I just about had it with these fucking amateurs, good thing payday is near, I need a shitload of more drugs for motivational purposes
Our business partner just tried to deliver a motivational pep-talk to the dev team that ended up sounding more like a sermon. Instead of hearing we did a good job, we heard we could be doing a better job. Never mind that the project is rushed, lacking funding and built on an unstable codebase inherited from a proof of concept demo. I just lost all respect for the guy, who I thought appreciated how hard we've been working. Apparently he's just another administrative cog who wants to climb the ladder of success while standing on other people's hard work.
Right, no more extra miles for this project. Time to just coast on and see it sink in its own excrement.
Again got an email(pseudospam) from a service I subscribed to (yes I did). It says the email is from CEO and it's supposed to be X-mas wish + invitation to their youtube channel. It was, kind of...
But the words they (or he, but I hope not) used in the email! It was so obviously blank, such uninteresting-president-speech. It was even targeted as a spam by gmail. In a foreign lang.
I mean... if you want to reach to your customers, sit on your ass and imagine _yourself_ reading an email that's long, its point was lost somewhere in the fourth sentence and magically appeared at the end + even default mail filter targets it as a spam.
That's what you get from a service. Motivational crap and blank words. Many thanks, I haven't heard a lot of those lately, eh?!
This is what I do every time I feel like garbage.
x = input("Type your name")
print(x + " is awesome!")
Hes discussing confidence and I wanted to talk about that for a moment, from a guy who struggled with it a lot growing up.
Half of confidence is headfaking yourself into distracting the lizard brain portion that didn't evolve for the last ten thousand years of rabid human social change and thus detects a bunch of social interactions as varying forms of threats.
Same way NLP works, or stupid shit like seduction, or sales techniques.
It's all about slowing down and distracting yourself with the process.
People that do all this dont realize the trick is you're thinking less because you've slowed down and this comes off as confidence.
Think about it. What do nervous people do? Either talk way less, and/or when they *do*, talk fast and lack certainty. What does confidence techniques and all that shit do? Causes you to slow down, follow process which makes answers clearer usually, and causes you to speak more freely (even if its more structured).
Thats the entire game.
Give yourself time to think and room to answer, to think of a question and formulate a response. Assume nothing while you do so.
One trick I use that boils *all* the other processes down is this: Anything you go to say, pause, look the person in the eye, and wait 1-2 seconds to respond. Remember to blink, and remember to gesture as you normally would.
Treat every conversation as a casual dialogue over coffee with a friend discussing colors of paint for a kitchen. Its a slow process isn't it?
Same thing with any other conversation. People will find you a lot more deliberate, confident, warm and unassuming.3
Tech Twitter is a fucking joke, unless you're a somewhat accomplished programmer, wrote something interesting / useful, or at the least have contributed anything meaningful that isn't just a repository with Markdown documents in then I don't want to see your fucking stupid inspirational quotes or words of encouragement with thousands of damn retweets. The circle jerk is frankly just unbearable.
There are plenty of developers that you can learn a lot from and that's great, and I don't want to put new developers down, but you're really not in any position to be giving advice or motivational monologues, you're still new, or worse yet, you've literally just started. Behave yourself.
Okay I'm done8
Weekend is coming friends! I just found a great life lesson for you. This video is dubbed in English only for you. Please do see this video. Spare some (2hr)time from your day and click this link.
Actually any Hackathon where I'm trying to build or implement something that I (at least at the start of the Hackathon) Have no idea on how to build
Where I spend maybe half (or more) of the Hackathon on rapid prototyping and learning asap to be done in time
I get such a motivational rush that one time I even managed to stay up and productive for roughly 42 hours straight
And the knowledge that I got during that Hackathon (bash scripting) got me into server management, I even use some of my scripts daily.. so last year was a huge payoff for me 😇
Actually pretty funny that this is the question of the week, because this week I am going to a yearly Hackathon
Anybody got junior dev motivational stories?
I got into development from sysadmin'ing about a year ago with a course. Finished it 3 months ago and self-learning ever since.
I find it so hard to do complex stuff by my own and I find myself learning too much from tutorials and working too little.
When you are a major Ironman fan, partially learning how to program because you were inspired by the suit & JARVIS. Only to see that JARVIS was made in an year & begin to wonder "What have I been doing my entire life?!". Now I need to find a new goal to work towards. 😐 😶3
Hi there !
Does anybody have a motivational story about starting as an intern and working towards your end goal ? (front end developer / back end developer or whatever it might be that you do now)2
Too early in the year for goals so far, but I'll give it a shot. Here's what I'm gunning for in the short-term:
Week 85 - 2018 Dev/Coding Goals:
- Continue educating myself in the Rust programming language (I feel like I dropped the ball there last year, Rust is easy to get programmer's block because it's syntax isn't always clear what should be done with it and/or why, the references. Ugghh fml).
- Get feature parity of PYXReloaded with it's predecessor, and get most of the planned features implemented. Friends of mine really want this and like screencaps I've sent already. It's a project I've been working on with @Gianlu for the past few days.
Week 85 - 2018 General/Personal Goals:
- Get over my motivational issues.
- Get over my depression/loneliness
- Get over my social anxiety.
I'm trying to better myself, both in coding and personal life. I fucking love this community. I used to use Reddit to find posts exactly like the ones here, but this is wayyy better and has everything all in one place.
Have a prosperous 2018, guys. Remember not to look at what you want to get done in just 365 days. You need to see the big picture.
Ricing newly installed Mate Desktop
In need of wallpapers (Anime/Illustration)
In need of a motivational quote too (can be sarcastic)
People who are going to roast me in the comments I know its cringe worthy and googleable. Cloning multiple repos and downloading a lot of data so please help me out3
