Coding YouTubers existence is the reason the quality of new age software engineers is going down the hill.

Learn MERN stack,
PHP's dead,
Buy my course, it's 20% off
Learn just good enough that you can land a job
Learn how to prompt ChatGPT better

These shitty pieces of advice will never enable software engineers to truly understand the core concepts of what they're doing.

It's sad, really.

    @electrineer So? I can't criticize my own?

    I get this feeling that in 10 years I will be payed like a Cobol programmer to do C++. There won't be enough developers to support the existing mass of codebases that are still critical to our systems. Oh sure there will be rewrites, but it feels like the labor pool will contract as people die/retire.

    Edit: WTF dude! I just bought your course at 20% off and my dick is stuck in ChatGPT! ;-)

    Aren't you using only PHP/MySQL your entire career?

    I prefer to get my information from books but there are some no BS programming YouYubers I like for example Low Level Learning.

    Said that unless the topic is lighthearted I tend to steer away from likely clickbaity videos, when on YT I see content like

    "Coding is dead"

    "This one simple trick will make you much more productive" (obligatory thumbnail with a big green number like +186%)

    "Gen Alpha is doomed" (obligatory thumbnail with Skidibi Toilet, TikTok and Fortnite)

    I steer away because I know its very likely to be low quality slop

    @jestdotty honestly I just read documentation, the languages tutorials on their site and search specific things in SO.

    Only when I was forced to watch I did YouTube videos, and this was for Xcode way back then...
