So I was wondering what was going on with Recall. Heard it would take screenshots without permission and send to MS. No idea if that is completely true. This continues to confirm that Windows 11 is a complete shit show. As I was looking I found a discussion of copilot being forced on users. Huge threads at Microsoft support saying it is a piece of shit (and that was a one of the nicer comments). So even before Recall comes out copilot is destroying the desktop experience. Is this the end? Will this force users to Linux or Mac? I am actually in shock how incompetent Microsoft is becoming.

I run games and support clients with Windows 10. I absolutely do not ever want to run Windows 11. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

I don't know, but that's something I've been since like Windows 8. I remember all the issues with them randomly deleting user files with updates, bricking peoples computers, forcing updates that's impossible to turn off, forcing you to use an online account (but secretly hiding the button to not do that)... They do incompetent shit for a long time I feel. But dunno

@Hazarth yeah, I have mixed feelings there. I had an okay experience with 8. The best was an OEM version of 7 I had. I didn't know it wouldn't do updates if it was OEM. So I went 10 years without updates. It was glorious.

With Windows 8 I installed a shell that made it like a regular desktop. I liked 7 a lot better though. I think 7 was the last not totally shit version.

So in some random forum about Windows 10 vs Windows 11 and whether or not to upgrade:

"I'm not gay, but if it came down to upgrade or I eat a bag of dicks, I'd have to think it over. "

I think this says it all.

Recall detects pixel drift and takes a screen shot. That's run through an llm to extract structured data and attach it. The data and image references are stored into an sqlite db locally which is indexed, and search enabled.

Originally it was unencrypted and optout, meaning a treasure trove for hackers. But it's been updated to be opt in and encrypted after a lot of back lash.

I am also seeing Windows 10 is gaining market share while Windows 11 is losing market share. What a wild dynamic that is. Enshitification has consequences I guess.
