IHateForALiving2806159dGIMP ENTHUSIAST WILL JUMP UP AND DOWN AND BE LIKE "no it's a you issue I've been using it for 24 years and never had a problem :)" OH MY GOD JUMP OFF A FUCKING BRIDGE, EVERY SEARCH HISTORY RELATED TO GIMP SHOWS TWO ENTRIES IN THIS EXACT ORDER: THE FIRST IS "PHOTOSHOP ALTERNATIVES" AND THE SECOND IS "WHERE IS FUCKING EVERYTHING"; THE THIRD IS EITHER "HOW TO UNINSTALL GIMP" OR "CRACK DEALER NEAR ME"

djsumdog6694159dWait, draw.io isn't open source? ... I still use the desktop Electron Cancer App on Linux (via the AppImage).
-
atheist9935159dI've tried using gimp a few times then go pirate photoshop. It's amazing the difference. But price is nuts for something I use once every 4 years...

djsumdog6694159d@IHateForALiving I use Gimp for some really light manipulation all the time on my Linux box and yea .... it sucks. You get use to the bad UI and make do, but it's really just the basics. It's better than a lot of stuff from the 90s (like LViewPro), but it's hardly a expert tool after all these years.
People get offended by the name and there was a fork called Glimpse, which the Gimp team fully supported, but they quickly realized how difficult it was to change the name. It's not just a search and replace. -
lorentz15283159dwhy are you editing raster icons and bitching about your tools? It's like trying to edit a compiled binary and complaining about your hex editor.

thebiochemic3019159dthat just shows the power off habit.
I used GIMP most of my life and feel photoshop difficult to use.
It very much IS a you problem, the same way it is a me problem that i cant get shit done with PS.
On the other hand, you could've just gone for something like krita, but instead your first thing of action is to complain how a piece of software is crap, because you haven't used it yet. -
webketje2220159dFor me:
In order of ease of use:
Paint.NET, Krita, Photoshop, GIMP
In order of advanced ability:
Photoshop, GIMP, Krita, Paint.NET
In order of cost-to-quality ratio:
Krita, Paint.NET, GIMP, Photoshop
* Paint.NET with plugins
** cost-to-quality including time spent -
IHateForALiving2806150d@thebiochemic there goes the gimp enthusiast.
I tried both PS and GIMP with no prior experience: one felt intuitive, the other does not. Empirical data shows this situationn happens VERY FUCKING OFTEN.
The GIMP enthusiast might want to acknowledge that yes, there is indeed a GUI problem, or defend dumb design decision just because they so happen to be used to it after years of practice. Guess which one you chose. -
thebiochemic3019150d@IHateForALiving agreed, the UI is not pretty. But it's functional and doesn't get into your way. It was worse, when GIMP had multiple little independent Windows.
But even considering that, anything's better than being fucked by Adobe rn, no? -
IHateForALiving2806139d@thebiochemic the alternative to Adobe rn is looking more and more like cracked Adobe

Froot28So I had to use office and image editing tools on Linux today. Holy mother fucking god are these things awful...
Currently working on a new feature on some old undocumented part of the code born out of the bastard fork of draw.io -back when it was opensource- and without a doubt the hardest part of it all is using GIMP TO DRAW A FUCKING ICON WHICH IS THE SAME AS AN OLD ICON WITH ONE MORE LETTER ON TOP I WANT TO DISEMBOWEL WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS PIECE OF SOFTWARE
