I'd actually like to send some devRanters Christmas cards but that would involve me getting their addresses and I get those privacy concerns + some people would say I'm slowly collecting addresses...

Any suggestions?

Ask who wants a Christmas card and who is willing to share his address?
And there is also this thing called "packstation" (don't know if it exists everywhere though)

Send Christmas cards to random addresses, and hope at least a few are devranters?

    Physically?

@Linux Yeah that's imo kinda the point of sending Christmas cards! :)

@Alice yeah I think so too

@linuxxx collect them anyway, the ones who don't want, will not give it to you. But the ones who would appreciate it, will not have a problem with it.

I for myself only dislike it, if big corporations and tge state collect data. For anybody else, ai don't have a problem with that.

@plusgut So I could send you a Christmas card?
  • 1
@linuxxx i would like that very much :)

@plusgut YAY! I actually just bought cards and envelopes (plus pens, didn't have any 😅) so I can write/post them today!

@linuxxx yay that's so nice of you :)

Looks like we need a mail service to send semi anonymous cards/packages. Set it up so that a third party mail service has a username and address, the third party allows you to send mail to a username without revealing the address (mail goes to the third party who forwards it to the recipient). But who would trust the third party with all the addresses? Fun idea anyway.

i would be very pleased to get one, but, it will be a little expensive for you, international things and all...

    Dead drops 😛

@asinglenoob i would prefer that my address have private people, instead of a company collecting lots of addresses.

    @rjedlin Best idea!

You should put them on a Webserver encrypted by public key so everyone can get them on their own. No need to submit you any details that way. Maybe even behind a proxy so you can't get their ips.

The first thing a thought was: "And that said by the privacy dude on devRant 😱 "

@Hezen-Dar I can send cards worldwide for about 1,25 euro each :D

@billgates I still like physical cards more than email for stuff like Christmas :)
  • 2
@linuxxx my parents would probably be very confused / mad about me getting random mail from someone they don't know....

@linuxxx solution.. email everyone a printable card. Then we can print it out and put in an envelope and it will feel real-ish.

@gitclone Already got one card ready :)
  • 2
@linuxxx you wire @dfox a lot of money and tell him to send it. He has everyone addresses :)

I wonder what if we made a giant devRant e-card as a Collab... Guess it's a bit too late though to plan out this stuff...

@ewpratten what about does advertisers send?

@gitclone Little late but why not if I may ask?
  • 1
    Awe, I'd love one.
  • 2
@linuxxx I prefer digital ones. Cheaper, faster and safer

@AngryDev Definitely! Ready have three now :D and with you that'd be four!

Very nice thought! I think this is a cool idea and maybe something we can try to plan for next year and allow people to opt-in some how. I think this year it’s too late and this would need to begin a good amount of time before Christmas.

@dfox a devrant secret santa or Xmas card thing that is planned through the app would be a really cool idea

    @ewpratten definitely!
