lorentz1523431dwhy would those two things be grouped anyway? they have fuckall to do with each other. I don't think I ever needed these two things at the same time.

12bitfloat926431d@lorentz And ONLY those two. Not like windows doesn't have other built in tray icons

Demolishun3471131d@Demolishun so missed the boat on this, but I think this meme should have been:
"Those buttons are so hot..."
"I always wanted to press two buttons at the same time" -
Lensflare1710131dI need to carefully position the cursor on the volume button, then right click, then select volume mixer if I want to mute a specific app.
This use case is so common to me. I bet I’m not the only one. That damn mixer should be quickly accessible.
Why not embedding the mixer right into the panel which opens via left click? The current panel is just a collection of different settings and links to other settings. This should be in the right click menu maybe, which is usually used for that kind of stuff and where other settings are at the moment?
This UI makes no sense at all.
You need to dig deep into shit that you need often and you get quick access to things that you don’t need often. -
lorentz1523431d@Lensflare Volume mixer should be shown in the basic volume popup anyway, possibly as a folding section that remembers its last state. Also if any app is recording audio the input volume and mute state should be there too.. But then, MS doesn't even correctly handle the "mic mute" media key so maybe my expectations are unrealistic.

MS:
Why should we care about good UX? Just slap some pretty looking UI into some random place!
People hate Apple and are afraid of Linux.
It’s not like they have any other choice but to use Windows lol.
If nerds complain in the support forums, just tell them to file an improvement suggestion and pretend like we actually give a fuck. -

Wisecrack997229d@Lensflare I could imagine this conversation actually happening in a meeting room at microsoft or apple.

So, when hovering on that element in the bottom task bar in Windows 11, it shows those two icons (wifi and sound) grouped together.
Left click anywhere on that button and it opens the same menu.
But if you right click, now it suddenly depends if your cursor was on the one or on the other icon. It opens different menus!
Great UX! Good job, MS!
