cursee165957yPlease clarify a bit more š¤
are you asking for a free laptop or a free old girl š¤ -
cursee165957y@nottoobright by that time he got 500 ++ , the laptop price might start from $1000 š
-
@CurseMeSlowly - That is here. If he takes this to Facebook, he might as well be able to afford a $5K laptop
-
Is Linux not a viable option? Or is that what you're currently running on it?
-
@monr0e I have an old Acer still running Win 98 lying around. XP is too slow on it. That must be about 17 years old too. But I only use that for gaming... š

@RiderExMachina Running macOS. There’s nothing wrong with the machine. I’m just worried some parts are going to give out soon.
-
@scytheri0n
Depending on the macOS version, it might get deprecated, but if it's still going (fairly) strong, you're good for the next little bit.
I would maybe give Fedora a try if you find more things not working, but I also know I have a bias towards Linux and against Apple -
@RiderExMachina I have a feeling that 10.14 will drop support for this model. But then again I felt that about Sierra and High Sierra and was delightfully wrong.
Really, the age is just my feeble excuse to warrant a new machine š¤£ -
monr0e12457y@scytheri0n my 17 year old Dell runs Windows 7, and serves as my deep-into-youtube machine when I can't sleep. Works pretty nice too, 720p is handled pretty well by it.

@scytheri0n
The mutliple root exploits that STILL haven't been patched (afaik). -
@RiderExMachina sounds like security erotica š got any links? (Will obvs ask the goog too)

vhoyer13317y@scytheri0n I'm at the exact same situation, 8 years 2 core duo, 4gb 128mb video card, because the onboard video card died a few years back
now my computer takes 6 restarts to properly work every time it is shuten down -
@scytheri0n
Sounds like they did eventually fix it, but here's a few from Google:
https://pcmag.com/news/357614/...
http://time.com/5041092/...
https://wired.com/story/...
https://macworld.com/article/...
It's pretty much just "type 'root' and hit 'Return' twice" -
@RiderExMachina ah yeah I did read about that. There was another similar one for APFS encrypted volumes that displayed the password in the hint in plain text. Also patched shortly after. Currently, you can unlock the App Store pref pane without any password or a random password. Nothing major there and it’s been patched in 10.3.3. But let’s see what that release brings š
