balte23207y@vyrtruus libraries, compilers. don't care about the interface so long as it's not windows 98.

balte23207y@LeFlawk apart from not being halfway interested in distros, I also don't generally have the time for it.
I guess I might as well go back to windows. not sure what's more time efficient. spending weeks figuring out a distro, or hours waiting for updates and blue screens. -
balte23207y@Haxk20 tried arch once, it stopped working the next day because of some update. not my idea of a good distro, personally.

There is nothing wrong with 17.10. In fact it's better than 16.04.
But fuck both of them, I use Debian now because I'm wit da cool kidz. -
devnope5697yGo debian testing
Its stable and its not a dependency and update nightmare unlike arch
Yet the packages are reasonably up-to-date.
And you keep your .deb compatibility, since ubuntu got it from there.
And if you remember enabling contrib and non-free in the /etc/apt/sources.list you should be more than fine -
I have an XPS 13 with Ubuntu 17.10 and have no problems except for the once in a while appearing message that there is some problem (yeah, must be the software updater).
You could try debian or some other distro they mentioned. I find switching to Windoozle a bad idea. Linux is great for development. -

Whats the problem with 17.10?
I recently switched from Arch to Ubuntu 17.10 (I also tried 16) and so far I really like it. -
@balte I tried MX Linux (Debian-based on XFCE4) and it even has a "Install nvidia drivers" button.
I'm looking for a distro that is more modern than Ubuntu 16.04, not the shithole that Ubuntu 17.10 is and works, practically, out of the box with my xps 9560.
this 17.10 update thing is driving me nuts. the plot twist is.. if I don't get it set up before tomorrow I'll just switch to windows.
