kiki354683d@SidTheITGuy disregard that feeling. Instead, dip your toes in forced, unnatural calmness.

@kiki no but sounds fun to me. I wouldn't blow that much money on something like that. I mean maybe if I was a millionaire and stopped caring
but this happens often. if your senses can't get feedback they will pick up their own noise signals. chaos magicians worship the void because they read those signals. it's like listening to RNG of the universe for powers or whatever -
also in social environments if you don't speak others will hear echoes of themselves and speak for you
it kind of has the saviour complex and moral good attraction to it but in reality it's narcissism fuel. people who want authority will often say "we have to do X for children with leukemia" but if you go meet said children their names are just being borrowed for someone's end -
kiki354683d@jestdotty that concept of noise perception inside the void sounds a lot like an echo chamber to me
I fear that if I get into the sensory deprivation tank, some hallucinations that awaken will stay with me forever, and I know for sure those won't be pleasant ones -
retoor16232d@jestdotty in Netherlands, "We have to think about the poor people and...". Where are all these fucking poor people they talk about? I mean fine, we should and make things cheaper and stuff. But again, where are those poor people? It's all shit politicians say to score points. Everyone wants to be good and will side with someone who says nice stuff even if it's imaginary. Feels good? Stop thinkii. Feels bad? Same recipe.

retoor16232d@SidTheITGuy like AI is good in recognizing AI, you're good in recognizing cringe :) I have to repair something but I have good news for you!
-
kiki354682d@retoor if you ain’t seeing poor people, you’re aren’t one of them. Try going to poorer neighborhoods
-
retoor16232d@kiki oh my god, you're kidding fight. That's exactly what everyone says to eachother while not knowing them theirselves. Poor in netherlands is not owning a Xbox and having now new iPhone. Almost literally. If someone doesn't have enough to eat, he probably has the last iPhone and Xbox. Don't underestimate. In netherlands being poor is mostly result of making bad decisions and KEEP making them. Mostly with psychological issues like most homeless here.

kiki354682d@retoor every country has the poverty line that, if your income is lower than that, you're considered poor. For example, you may not be able to afford to live in a big city where the rent is high. Granted, the poor in Lesotho are way poorer than the poor in the Netherlands.
The fact that you're even able to say what you're saying about the poor in your country is the testament to amazing achievements of how your society functions. I bet everyone gets free healthcare, working hours are heavily regulated and enforced, you get mandatory vacations, unions, and other lefty perks. Oh how I want to live there! -
kiki354682d@retoor psychological issues are still valid. We can't blame those people for their mental health situation. It's our job as a society to include and integrate those people to make their life at least tolerable. Think free rehabs and naloxone, free emergency care for drug-related problems without the risk of getting arrested for drug possession, free housing (Finland), etc
-
retoor16232d@kiki Healthcare is not free, it's 140,- per month and forced but yes, it's great. I netherlands same question for the rich, where are they? In netherlands everyone is as mediocre as their grades at school. Search for "zesjescultuur". It sounds very stupid to say, but the middle class is biggest group (duhh). But I mean by very far. And that's great! It's just that my mom recently said something about the poor and I asked her to name one, one person that's really poor. She had none, like the leukemia kids in dotti's example.
-
kiki354682d@retoor I agree with your stance on your country's politics. I hope you understand that “I don't know one poor person, therefore poor people don't exist” is flawed.

@kiki NL is pretty spoiled as a country. Europeans I think as a general are
slavics are a bit more uhh.. hardcore. so they will live in what amounts to literal dirt huts pretty easily. Europe has a great welfare state with lots of people donating stuff for whatever reason. you'd be given a beautiful house to live in even if you were as poor as Russian shack, somehow for some reason
up in Canada you know someone is poor if they're taking food from the food bank or arguing about money. prices actually don't correlate too well to living standards interestingly. it actually looks like who ends up poor just aren't good at basic math -- and I'm not disparaging them, I think they suffer for us and then the rest of us who can do math have excess income due to their inability to do math so I do appreciate that they suffer and petition people for higher pay and lower costs all over
Canada has pretend hobos tho. it's crazy. especially my city. they drive BMWs -
@kiki I used to be poor. I still am
in Ukraine though I was rich as all hell
quite honestly living standards don't seem that different. the country you live in and how politics, local outlets run has more effect on stress levels than money
my mom sat on welfare for over a decade as she complained the mafia in Canada prevented her from working. I got refeeding syndrome once from eating noodles cuz I hadn't had food to eat so long lol. but that was because she
1. refused to tell the government my dad wasn't paying child support money for some reason, no clue she didn't give me a good reason was just stupid
2. spent all her welfare money on buying books instead of food, telling me how it's better and outright bragging about it and I was a child
3. she was a communist. disparaged me as a materialist cuz I wanted to be able to eat, wanted to know how money worked, wanted to be able to get money to have food
she also defrauded the government frequently, stole my identity for $ once, etc -
my best friend growing up was also poor and her mom was even worse... because she had like, an actual religiously obsessed psychosis. so if she got any money she would immediately donate it all to the church. and she never worked either. it was all welfare. I adopted my best friend and would feed her, and she'd take me to all the neighbourhood adults' houses that she typically cozied herself with to get food from them. a lot of them were pedos
-
@kiki yes
so in Montreal City we have hobos. they smell bad, wear multiple layers of coats cuz it's generally cold all the time and etc
well they are fake. they sit commonly in the metro system and ask for donations. they make upwards of 60k a year just begging for money
once they're done their shift they turn the corner, get in their bmw, and go whereever
why does this work? Montreal is a busy city with a lot of international travel, businessmen. also it gets cold here. and Canadians are a general are pretty kind. so if you sit side of the road and look pathetic, turns out it's extremely effective
(actually worse yet is r/Montreal is filled with people who visit and get conned on the street and then the sub laughs at them lol. like, I need money for insulin, can I just borrow 20$ from your ATM I'll be right back and then they never come back, etc. these are just street kids or pathological people) -
kiki354681d@jestdotty I'm sorry that it happened to you. While I admit that I didn't have problems with food growing up, I know _exactly_ what it feels like when your mom has unhealthy relationships with religion. About hobos though… we have them in Russia, but they aren't allowed to take the money for themselves. They pay gangsters that protect them, and they're left with pennies, but they have no other choice.
If you wanna hear the truth, listen to the voiceless and silenced.
