Nope. Regardless of what people usually think. Being a developer does not affect your social life. At the end of the day, you decided what your social life is like. Be funny, attend parties, go out with friends, and don't be weird.

If you're a dev, I assume that you're smart. You just have to find a person who is as smart as you. And not necessarily in the same field. At least that worked for me. I think that people can't be together properly if they are not on a similar intellectual level. That's just how i see it.

Oh just leave the keyboard during the weekends and start hanging out so you meet new people

Sounds like child's play. Teenage relationships are like that. You can play along and gain experience but you don't need to, the world won't end.

Don't make yourself crazy about it, but also don't isolate yourself. It gets harder to get along with others the more you do it. As part of the job you will need social skills anyway, so build them now.

If there is a thing you should be afraid of, that is being accepted, cause that's when the game and the effort begins! But the rewards are good enough to overcome the fear, I believe.
