As a child I was raised to say "Thank you" to people, esp when they offer me services for free, and even when when not for free. I did this so often, I don''t think about anymore.

However, recently I'm realizing that: there are times when saying a "Thank you" isn't right.

@sladuled let me try and explain. It's difficult explaining tho.

As I was raised up to think that Thank you is a form of appreciation and respect. Shows good manners...

But I noticed people don't share this idea. For others, a thank you means "you're feeling in debt to whatever it is they did for you".

Let me give am example to clarify. Suppose I worked on a project for you. You paid me, and I said thank you. Some people will think, "oh well, he's just a nice guy.". Others will think that, "well he didn't deserve it after all." Hope you got the meaning? A thank you may send a message of undeserving, not expecting...

I use thank you for sincere grattitude and also with shitload of sarcasm. But doing something for others and feeling they are in debt to you and/or inferior to you because they thank you for help (or just need your help) is just BS! I'd use the latter thank you for those people.
