🎥 Steve Jobs introduces the original iPhone at Macworld SF (2007) -
Agred20367yOnce I've asked this question an coworker who was a presenter. He said that it's social statement. Showing with a Mac tells people that you are an professional using expensive tools for your work. He told me that this way clients judge you as a person worth their trust and money and because the tool is expensive and recognizable they feel that you are making a lot of money from other happy clients.
Or something like that. I call bullshit, but maybe there's something to it. -
R5on11c10557yBecause Mac is a popular enterprise choice of working machine. You get a working machine with all the necessary software installed.
With windows you risk bumping into either license issues, modular program purchases and so on. Also apple will repair or replace your machine when issues arise. With Microsoft you are mostly bound to the Producer of the Machine itself, and those only repair or replace when some hardware breaks on its own. -
vortex47827y@R5on11c im sorry but there are other computers makers other than apple and Microsoft.. why not regular comp with ubuntu?
But i think i got my answer -
vortex47827y@Agred this answer sounds legit.. total bs of course, but i think it works to some degree as a marketing tool.. like "look at how cool and smart we are.. we have the coolest equipment"
And I'm not going to mention the stickers..*eyeroll*
Hipsters.. normal companies provide some old heavy hp laptop.. and somehow the job still gets done #yes #Im # very #jealous -
R5on11c10557y@vortex Again because software and hardware provider are 2 different entities. If you got a software fuckup, you are pretty much on your own.

@Agred we once lost a sale because our guys had dells while the competition had Macs so some truth to it I guess.

mlask8537yMacs just look a bit more professional than most of other brands laptops. Also most of these people are just ignorants, not knowing that there’s so much good looking PCs now...
-
bahua129047yThe image is that Apple products are the best, so that's what people buy to impress rooms full of people. Most people are not concerned or even aware of the ease of use of one operating system vs another. For example, MacOS is actually pretty great, but the old people at my office don't do anything with it that can't be done with another OS. Our old project manager has 100+ icons on his desktop, and no system of any kind for finding them.

@vortex @R5on11c Thank you vortex! I work at a professional hosting company and we all use Linux laptops (also during presentations). Mostly for security reasons and because Linux is open source as well. Next to that we all work with Linux servers natively so it makes a lot of sense. Bossman also refuses to buy macbooks 😄
-
Because it would be pretty embarrassing to OMG NOT RESPONDING CTRL ALT DEL during a presentation. Windows machines are prone to that. They could very well use most Linux distros tho.
-
R5on11c10557y@linuxxx I think the main reason why our company doesn't use Linux machines is the fact that it hasn't dominated the market early enough as working machines (at least not where i am from).
Maybe also just laziness.. who knows.
Why do 99% of presenters in conferences have a mac laptop?
