Blake1217y@jhh2450 basically, Google was wanting to use some Java API for Android that Oracle had created, and since google wants to keep android open source, they went ahead and made their own version of the API and wrote it in java. Oracle sued for copyright infringement on their API and want $9 billion from google. Google won the initial case, but oracle fought back and it will be going back to court soon.
The way it’s been presented to me, it sounds like if they win, Oracle will be able to charge people to program in Java. -
Would google react by making c#/Go/somethingelse the primary language for android development?
-
-vim-31257y@AnonymousMooCow that would be very hard to change, but then again, if we could just make it work like on a normal os where you can compile the language you want on every os, that would be great! Why limit to one language type of bullshit?
-
Blake1217y@AnonymousMooCow Google has already moved to Kotlin for all these libraries, good move on their part.
-
Blake1217y@AnonymousMooCow Java and Kotlin have interoperable frameworks, but they are two completely separate languages!
