First of all, Welcome to devrant!

    What is your budget?
  • 2
@mohammed Anything less than £750 (GBP)
  • 2
@JamesR have a look at Google pixel 2 it's around 650 for 64 GB model. It has great camera and long support and updates.
  • 1
@mohammed would it be better than the oneplus 6, the op6 appears to have a better processor and double the ram?
  • 11
As an owner of the amazing OnePlus 5t, I bet it'll very well worth getting the OnePlus 6. At least I wasn't disappointed at all, yet. I'm not a fan of the company, but the phone is fucking great, and Google is definitely worse than OnePlus.
  • 5
The Google.Pixel is not worth it, in my opinion.
  • 3
@JamesR I'm not an expert, and I'll be biased because I own a Google pixel 2 xl, but I can suggest you to watch 2-3 reviews of both phones (if you are considering it) to make your decision also if you can get a chance for a hand-on experience.

Why switch to android? I have an iphone 6s 128gb had it since launch. runs the latest os. is totally reliable, runs fast as fuck, great UX UI. I would never switch to Android. Interested to know why (if price is not the main concern)
  • 13
@helloworld there are reasons to switch to android
    1. Customization
    2. I'm able to run termux, a mininal linux install without root. If you had root you could use that as a fully featured linux install. Heck, you could install any distro that has an arm variant
    3. You can use your phone as a bootable drive.
    4. More freedom in general. You can load any file on your phone without a problem.

@AlexDeLarge i'm actually considering a oneplus next. I'm sick of the lack of rom support for samsung phones. How's the camera?
  • 4
@fuck2code I almost never use it, but according to my girlfriend, the camera is really great.
  • 2
@AlexDeLarge thanks. I think that would be my only option besides a nokia 3310, the purism librem 5 or a diy phone. Tbh I am tired of having a smart phone. It just feels like a distraction. But the purism and the oneplus look so nice
  • 3
@fuck2code The Librem 5 was also on my list, but it wasn't nearly shippable at the time. I'd love to try it out, though.
  • 1
@helloworld I had a oneplus 3 and switched to iOS, I prefer android as it offers more control and i can switch it up when i get bored.
  • 1
    @AlexDeLarge I had the oneplus 3 until i broke it. I think i’ll probably go for the 128/8gb Op6
  • 1
@fuck2code Why? its a fucking phone. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. But each to his/her own. If you want a reliable OS and phone iPhone every time. If you want to fuck about with it, obviously get an android. If you want to do work on it, get a fucking computer. if you want storage get a fucking usb stick. To me my phone is the backbone of my business and it has to be reliable as fuck.
  • 0
@helloworld Yes, iPhones are clearly the more reliable phone. i haven’t had mine crash on me and i have over 175 apps (most always running) and still no crashes.
  • 0
Wait a little bit until htc release its new mobile: https://www.htcexodus.com/
  • 3
@helloworld I'll agree, iphones are more idiot proof but in no way are they more "stable". I can't even count how many app crashing characters have been found in the last year. It's your opinion. I don't want to get into a war here. I was just pointing out things you can do.
  • 0
@J-2FA That could be a option, the only OEM i won’t buy from is LG.
  • 0
Well, I am OnePlus user from the start. I have used the Pixel 2 and it's a great phone. Currently I am using OnePlus 5 and the phone is great.
Oxygen OS is great and has lot of customization features. If you are looking for a budget phone go with the OnePlus and if you are fan of pure Android with regular updates go for Pixel 2
  • 1
@anki7 Yes, i’ve had oneplus one, oneplus two and the oneplus three. I just don’t agree with how the company skew benchmark results and sell user data. Therefore if i was to get a Oneplus 6 id have to root it and install a custom ROM.
  • 1
@JamesR wait, does oneplus sell user data?
  • 1
@fuck2code They were caught collecting information and sending it to another company without user permission
  • 1
@JamesR holy shit. That is stupid. Yeah, I.d be very careful with any phone I buy from them. Instantly flash a ROM on that bastard
  • 1
@fuck2code yeah, i love oneplus but them doing that has made me a bit less likely to buy a new phone. hense why i’m leaning towards a pixel 2 xl or a iphone X
  • 1
@JamesR if I were you I'd buy a pixel and flash copperhead os. It's a privacy oriented distro so you're not gonna have anything Google. But that's just me. I must admit though the iPhone X is the first Apple phone I was tempted to buy. It looks amazing. I got to play with a friend's iphone x and it was fucking great. I do think it is overpriced though
  • 1
@fuck2code I love the iPhone X and it is also very secure. My budget on the other hand is around £750 and it’s £999
  • 2
@JamesR i know, it's expensive. Also, I doubt it is secure. It's integrated with prism https://theguardian.com/world/2013/... . Also the numerous icloud leaks keep me from thinking Apple is secure
  • 1
@fuck2code I see, i’m also very in the apple ecosystem with a macbook, apple watch and airpods. but i really want to switch back to Android.
  • 1
@JamesR oh the wonders of the Apple ecosystem. Such a slippery slope. BTW there's an article by @Artemix talking about why she hates apple
  • 1
@fuck2code not an article but more of a rant, and it only evokes one of the many reasons, https://devlog.idelsinne.com/
  • 0
@Artemix thanks! I like your writing style!
  • 1
  • 1
@Artemix Very interesting! Someone i know has a Retina 15inch Macbook pro (unsure of year). They keeep getting shocks of just above the touchpad.
  • 2
@JamesR I get them from everywhere. Yesterday, I was extracting some photos from a photo shoot I did and the shock was so fucking enormous that not only it made a tac sound but I also ultimately fell of my chair after jumping
  • 2
@Artemix finished the extraction on my real computer (it was overheating anyways, it's useless for photo editing)
  • 1
@Artemix Ouch! Have you gone to apple about it?
  • 1
@JamesR no, I abandoned the idea, plus it costs money for a view in such a short delay
  • 0
@Artemix True, i’ve got the 13” 2017 one, no issues yet
  • 0
I take exception to the argument that iPhones are more reliable than Android phones. In the years I've been with my girlfriend and now wife, she's always had an iPhone and I've always had an Android. Aside from the "stuck in a box" UI of iOS, my wife's iPhone has always been unequivocally more unstable and buggy than mine.

As for the specific question, I personally would not choose the OP6 because it's the size of a ping pong paddle.
  • 1
i wont get a oneplus just bc they've done some "wtf" shit

    also - why usb2.0 - AGAIN ?

    https://howtogeek.com/340174/...
  • 2
@zlice Root it. Solves most of these problems. And trusting a big ass company is always a bad idea. I'm sure trusting Samsung, Apple or Google has long have had worse consequences than trusting OnePlus.
  • 1
    @AlexDeLarge

    ya prolly. don't trust none-dem!

the usb 2.0 thing kills me tbh

like is aux, usb-c 3.0/3.1 and root w/o bs attached too much to ask?

i'm not asking for a physical keyboard anymore v_v
  • 0
@zlice yeah the usb 2.0 is a disappointment. i wish i could get the 256gb version and use it as a fast memory stick.
  • 1
    @JamesR

but why on earth would anyone want to do that for right?

supposedly it's for charging bs but i don't buy it.

ima go w/ conspiracy that bigger companies paid them off to only use 2.0, because if they had 3.1, why the fuk would i get any other fone?
  • 1
@zlice I think it’s a cost saving measure. But i can’t see it costing much to implement.
  • 1
    @J-2FA A.k.a: "Buzzword: The Phone"
  • 1
The stupid fucking notch is a deal breaker for me. But hey, you can at least disable it in the settings.
  • 2
    @XiovV

    ~this~

apple copies some shit and no one cares (except maybe samsung =p)

apple does something after the fact and everyone wants to copy
  • 1
@XiovV To me the notch is a good thing, obviously it'd be better if it wasn't there but for now its a way to give me more screen real-estate on the app i'm using. I also don't mind the look.

Take a look at BQ Aquaris X2. I have an Aquaris X and am very happy with it. ( Switched from Samsung ) tldr

Idk if you bought the phone eet, but I just got my 1+6 last week and it's amazing. 10/10 recommended.
