Whoever wrote apache poi does not seem to like Microsoft Office formats very much.

They suck, especially when used wrong. Like when someone sends you a DOCX that should be a PDF because you have no intention of editing it whatsoever. And if you do want to change it, please use a shared editor instead of sending DOCXs back and forth.
