I found a cool project on GitHub. I forked it and added a simple dev server with the intent of making it more accessible which could lead to more activity = improved project. I created a PR with small concise commits with very informative messages.
The guy who owns the project comments and says "I don't want your dev server, I have an apache instance locally on my computer". I tell him "Ok sure, but wouldn't it be nice if everyone else also had a nice dev server which can be started with a single command?", and other people join the PR and agree with me that we should make it available for everyone.
But the fucking idiot doesn't care, "No, I prefer to use my apache server". YOU FUCKING ASS WIPE, why do you even put it up on GitHub if you don't want contributions to make your project better and more available? I saw other open PRs where he basically did the same thing, left a snarky comment without merging it. What a fucking tool. Worst spent time ever.

I managed to scrape all the images using my Java api in a couple of lines of code, used Apache Fluent to quickly download all of them, and imgflip to turn them into a gif.

Ok, some @#$#!!@ at my company set the WordPress cache directory to "/" on a Linux server, some other plugin triggered the cache clear and the Apache user was the owner of almost all the WordPress directories of several MU installations, this all happened on a Friday afternoon.2

Just managed to setup a tiny/simple privacy-friendly analytics system.
You basically call an api from your backend with the api key and all the headers you received from the browser (php and Apache or nginx in my case) and the analytics api gets useful stuff out of that data without sacrificing privacy.
I get a little bit more insight into my websites usage and the client isn't sacrificing identifiable information!

I have never doubted my abilities more, before this happened:
I got a Linux VM on Azure, downloaded apache httpd source which I proceeded to configure, make and install.
As expected, install failed with something related to apr and apr-util.
Searched several mailing lists, tried out several configure options, nothing worked..
After almost an hour, it stuck to me, all I had to do was "sudo yum install httpd" !!!
Disappointed that I missed something so simple, but when I did that, it came back with 'Nothing to do'...
Realized, httpd was pre-installed in that VM.. I just had to start the service !!!

At an expensive Apache Spark training class. For hands on portion you use their system. When everyone logged on, their system couldn't handle the load. First they blamed the hotel wifi (even though every other site was running perfectly) and then they blamed AWS. It's clearly an issue with their system. It's ridiculous to not be honest with a room full of developers who know what's up.4

Java dev here. I rewrote an app and replaced a system call to ssh with a modern jaxrs post for uploading a file and (new) some additional data.
I even used a stream.
1 hour in production, first client doesn't get his file. Log says OutOfMemoryError: heap.
Me: wtf? I already use streams.
Looking at the Jersey library. Docs say nothing. An issue from 2013 says: oh if you silly don't use the Apache httpclient addon, we disable chunking and buffer the whole body, because our tests fail with the jdk included http client otherwise.
Me: meh.

There’s no better feeling then doing a full server rebuild, modifying several projects heavily to be portable and keep working under new infrastructure and loosing access to dependent systems.
Migrating everything across, firing up Apache.... and BAM the fucker just works and ssl labs gives it an A (it was a giant F with multiple vulnerabilities yesterday on the old server)7 -
I have a lab at uni where my lab group have to refactor some code from an open source project. We got assigned some Apache project and jfc that code is a mess. Little to no documentation, hard to navigate, tests that you have no idea what it's testing, and so on. On top of that the teacher expects us to spend more time than we have on it. I'll be glad when this course is over :))5

I was already about to hit my head against the wall: was trying to install nginx all the time, but was greeted by apache default page, over and over again I re-installed the servers, tried connecting directly to the server ip, changed server hardware, picked different distros, manually build from source, did everything possible, even searched the whole system for "apache" and different regex...
It was chrome cache........ after I wiped cache I was greeted by welcome to nginx...... 10 hours wasted.......3 -

Migrated a first customer project from ASP MVC 5 to ASP.NET Core MVC 1.1.
Now running under Oracle Linux, with Apache and MySQL.
It's not finished yet but it runs (and I'm really happy with that). I like the new direction with .NET Core, open source and cross platform :-)

Sad. Laravel Valet uses Nginx. What if your office system is using Apache and is heavy in using .htaccess?

Can't work over sftp with current user,so I give it the same user ID as apache, get files transferred and shit.
Go back to change uid, set wrong uid, now my user is ntp, I can't get into root, can't set password...

Apache Tomcat vulnerability "GHOSTCAT" allows read conduct files and implant web shells. All versions in the last 13 years vulnerable.
According to Security Researcher of Chaitin Tech : Due to a flaw in the Tomcat AJP protocol (the channel for Tomcat to connect to the outside, pass them to the corresponding web application for processing and return the response result of the request), an attacker can read or include any files in the webapp directories of Tomcat.
For example, An attacker can read the web-app configuration files or source code. In addition, if the target web application has a file upload function, the attacker may execute malicious code on the target host by exploiting file inclusion through "GHOSTCAT" vulnerability.
Apache Tomcat has officially released versions 9.0.31, 8.5.51, and 7.0.100 to fix this vulnerability.5 -
In today's episode of kidding on SystemD, we have a surprise guest star appearance - Apache Foundation HTTPD server, or as we in the Debian ecosystem call it, the Apache webserver!
So, imagine a situation like this - Its friday afternoon, you have just migrated a bunch of web domains under a new, up to date, system. Everything works just fine, until... You try to generate SSL certificates from Lets Encrypt.
Such a mundane task, done more than a thousand times already... Yet... No matter what you do, nothing works. Apache just returns a HTTP status code 403 - Forbidden.
Of course, what many folk would think of first when it came to a 403 error is - Ooooh, a permission issue somewhere in the directory structure!
So you check it... And re-check it to make sure... And even switch over to the user the webserver runs under, yet... You can access the challenge just fine, what the hell!
So you go deeper... And enable the most verbose level of logging apache is capable of - Trace8. That tells you... Not a whole lot more... Apparently, the webserver was unable to find file specified? But... Its right there, you can see it!
So you go another step deeper and start tracing the process' system calls to see exactly where it calls stat/lstat on the file, and you see that it... Calls lstat and... It... Returns -1? What the hell#2!
So, you compile a custom binary that calls lstat on the first argument given and prints out everything it returns... And... It works fine!
Until now, I chose to omit one important detail that might have given away the issue to the more knowledgeable right away. Our webservers have the URL /.well-known/acme-challenge/, used for ACME challenges, aliased somewhere else on the filesystem - To /tmp/challenges.
See the issue already?
Some *bleep* over at the Debian Package Maintainer group decided that Apache could save very sensitive data into /tmp, so, it would be for the best if they changed something that worked for decades, and enabled a SystemD service unit option "PrivateTmp" for the webserver, by default.
What it does is that, anytime a process started with this option enabled writes to /tmp/*, the call gets hijacked or something, and actually makes the write to a private /tmp/something/tmp/ directory, where something... Appeared as a completely random name, with the "apache2.service" glued at the end.
That was also the only reason why I managed fix this issue - On the umpteenth time of checking the directory structure, I noticed a "systemd-private-foobarbas-apache2.service-cookie42" directory there... That contained nothing but a "tmp" directory with 777 as its permission, owned by the process' user and group.
Overriding that unit file option finally fixed the issue completely.
I have just one question - Why? Why change something that worked for decades? I understand that, in case you save something into /tmp, it may be read by 3rd parties or programs, but I am of the opinion that, if you did that, its only and only your fault if you wrote sensitive data into the temporary directory.
And as far as I am aware, by default, Apache does not actually write anything even remotely sensitive into /tmp, so...
Why. WHY!
I wasted 4 hours of my life debugging this! Only to find out its just another SystemD-enabled "feature" now!
And as much as I love kidding on SystemD, this time, I see it more as a fault of the package maintainers, because... I found no default apache2/httpd service file in the apache repo mirror... So...8 -
Linux users, do you admin your server manually or do you use any web interface tool? After getting the third server of the day running I think I need a tool to make the work faster. Do you have any recommendation? Cpanel ist pretty neat but sadly not free10

Why don't you install Webmin and PHPMyAdmin in the VM yourself if you like GUIs so much? Working with acutal BigData. Will be ''promoted'' to a new team where I will work on a system wrote in php+mysql with literal millions of requests and database rows. We are currently seeing server crashes around once a week on peak usage. Stack is a vps 64gb ram server + i dont know how many cpu/ cores. Apache, php, mysql.Best ways to optimise and adapt in this case? Kafka? Rabbitmq?ngnix? More hardware?21

Best shameless hack: installing a Windows Service to restart Apache Tomcat every night at 2am on a clients' server coz the jsp application kept leaking memory and crashing tomcat. So bad, yet such a timesaver.1

Spend literally two days trying to figure out why I have a 2 hour offset in my timezones for a lamp web app. This isn't even close to my first timezone rodeo.
Check logs, reset Apache/MySQL/PHP timezones in like 100 places. Use 3rd party server side and client side timezone libraries. Moment.js you say? Shit works like a charm... but is, of course, still two hours off.
MySQL is right. PHP is right. Apache is right. PHP libs are in place. Finally convert the entire damn project to use epoch time because I have a deadline, I have no more time to read backwater AWS docs and try to figure out why the hell this Ubuntu EC2 is fucked up, and I literally cannot figure out why in the hell the damn clock is off.
Several days later notice a variable in the main .config file... right in root... 2 hour timezone offset.

So... I've been messing arround with my first VPS (with little knowledge of Linux).
First installed lxde to learn how to do it, then back to the terminal. then I started with Apache, watching online tuts ...
Then I changed for nginx... Looks way better.
Installed my sql, php and got stuck. Dropped it for a few days.
Today I restarted, deleted Apache, mysql, reinstalled nginx, my php (with lots of problems because of old instalations). Everything is working now except php.
After going round and arround I changed my focus to relax a bit, and remembered I still have Apache on the firewall...
OK Apache and other stuff that I installed.
Delete everything
New rules only for nginx and reset.
Cant ssh to the server... What?
Oh... Forgot to add rules to OpenSSH...
No matter, I can access the terminal directly on the website....
And it loads to ldxe, with no user set...

Finally a little productive today. Built a LEMP stack web server for my personal stuff later on. I've been using apache for so long but feels great to switch to nginx.

Progress.
It isn't much, but the MVC application now reads data from the Linux LAMP server and prints the SQL data back to the client. Biggest hurdle was the fact that my Linux host blew up three times over the week, but hey, how else are you going to learn Linux servers?
Moving into spring framework self-education in July. Hopefully it's a little less painful than Apache Tomcat.

Why did your dumb ass developers decide it was a good idea to not support "expect 100 continue headers". I seriously suspect that the devs were high smoking dragon dildo ashes like they were getting ready to get a whole chair shoved up their asses.
I wasted alot of time thinking i was getting a 417 http code because i fucked up my API implementation... No, it was the dumb apache server that decided to give me the finger.
Also, whoever built the HttpClient for .net framework 4... Fuck you too for automatically adding that dumb header to PUT requests and not properly documenting this or allowing for it to be disabled in a non hacky way.
I appreciate and enjoy solving coding problems... I, however, can't stand dumb decisions like the two above. -

So some of @ewpratten's rants just inspired me to tell my story of a somewhat ignorant teacher.
So we had an english class, it was abou Nelson Mandela or something, but I was sitting and learning about apache2(well I first learned about ncurses in python but since there was a command for restarting the apache server it got me curious, as usual). When she said something along the lines of(translated from.my language): "Then you read the text about Nelson Mandela, but other people are programming!". I was about to say that I was actually not programming, but setting up an apache server, but that would have been a dick move since she at least didn't accuse me for hacking.3 -
Clients wanted a simple backend to be deployed specifically on Apache. Used PHP. Spoke to them and they were fine with PHP .... Until I delivered the application. Told me how bad a developer I am to not use the MEAN stack. Didn't even pay.3

I dug up my old ledger web app that I wrote when I was in my late twenties, as I realized with a tight budget toward the end of this year, I need to get a good view of future balances. The data was encrypted in gpg text files, but the site itself was unencrypted, with simple httpasswd auth. I dove into the code this week, and fixed a lot of crap that was all terrible practice, but all I knew when I wrote it in the mid-2000s. I grabbed a letsencrypt cert, and implemented cookies and session handling. I moved from the code opening and parsing a large gpg file to storing and retrieving all the data in a Redis backend, for a massive performance gain. Finally, I switched the UI from white to dark. It looks and works great, and most importantly, I have that future view that I needed.1

Yesterday I told an intern that was supposed to be shadowing me that he'll need to download visual studios with apache Cordova plugin for multi platform app design. I gave this assignment to him first thing in the morning (around 9:30 am) and told him to head home for the day thinking I was giving the kid a break to download and make sure the build was proper and to play around with it maybe. The lack of community support for NGINX is horrible (though it is getting better).
I was an NGINX disciple from the beginning; I switched over from Apache as soon as I found it and used it everywhere. The issue with that is that most services only provided Apache configuration files, forcing me to do my own research and translate them.
Thankfully the NGINX community has done a lot of work already; I was able to find a lot of the configurations I needed online, but I also spent a lot of time learning how to use it. Now, if you give me a few hours, I have the knowledge and resources to make it do whatever you need it to do (within reason, of course).2 -

What can it be used for? Can I use it for hosting thousands of websites powered by php/hhvm?
I am starting to have a need for a really HA and High Performance solution that is futureproof too. My current solution is doing great also when it comes to performance and HA, but it is always nice to try out new things...

For example recently this guys just found out firebase(Firestore thingy ) and keep asking us to implement into the app (E wallet app) which our software architect refuse to use firebase( I agree with him) because in the long run , the project will definitely get surprising prices in the invoice.
Also, our DBA had started to implement Apache Cassandra .....

It's actually imperative. Thank you @AndSoWeCode for figuring that out. I spent the whole day thinking about it.
Lisp is imperative. It's just different way to define the exact data transformations, and that's quite imperative.
On the other hand, HTML, CSS, config files and markup languages are declarative.
But writing the imperative program which is configured with declarative configs seems like great idea. Consider Apache web server and others.3 -
Finally started to learn Node.js and actually set up a small server with node and express and ejs, it honestly works nice but requires so many small things that take a bit to set up, while an apache server running PHP and Mysql would take me 5 minutes max to set up, but either way still trying to make that transition.5

I just took the "lead" over a small internal Projekt. I can not believe what they have done.
They somehow managed to use dependencies that are not managed by maven.
They 'used' the entire apache-commons library just to create empty InputStreams once!
And they merged unfinished tickets to the development branch which dont even work!
Did I mention that they all left the project in the middle of the sprint without saying a word and even without finishing their tickets...?

I found out that apache had built-in support ( via a module - mod_md ) for automatic TLS certificate management with Let's Encrypt since October 2017.
Bloody Hell! Why didn't I hear of this sooner?
So, I ran off into my cloud to set up this so-called ManagedDomain ( mod_md ).
Found the module in the package repositories, installed it and started testing it out.
I started writing IfModule conditions under mod_ssl so that I wouldn't have to overwrite my existing TLS configurations ( which was already issued by Let's Encrypt via certbot, by the way ).
After a whole night of twisting and turning with the configurations, it turns out that the module in the package repositories were built for ACMEv1 and that API has been dead for as long as the module has been around.
I had noticed that the module was 'experimental', but I still hoped that they had the packaged the module.
Finally, I cozied back up with certbot. At least, until this so-called mod_md becomes stable and mainstream.
I hope certbot doesn't make a fuss. I'm sure, it got offended that I was trying to cheat it with mod_md.4 -

I‘m currently writing a http proxy server (something like the proxy mod in Apache, but more special). One the one hand is is nice that HTTP 1.1 can use one TCP connection multiple times, but on the other hand it is very annoying. Because I need to rewrite the Host header. And therefore I need the start of the HTTP header. I solved it after some time, but now my code is more complicated than before.

In a side project (just for fun) I try to implement the interface on NodeJS so I could process PHP through ExpressJS (long story).
I've been able to send and receive stuff, but the PHP CGI always tells me that I am "not allowed" to use this interface...
Docs/mailinglists seem reeeally old and don't want to go through the Apache source code 😅

Spent about 40 minutes trying to figure out why my stupid events were not tracked, something about CORS
so digged into the htaccess file and added the correct headers but the header value was being appended although i was setting it.
So I figured the "tool" i am using is setting it too but only when I set it, that was weird.
So on to to its github I went, someone mentioned there is a CORS setting in the UI, so I added the domain i wanted to allow and done, it fucking works.

You know what's a great app? Termux! It's amazing. Yesterday I tried running apache on it and it worked! If you haven't tried it yet, you really should, it's great. For those of you that don't know, it's basically a custom Linux evnvironment that doesn't require root acces. You can use it for ssh, you can use vim in it, python, standard commands etc. I'm definietly thinking about buying stuff like the customization to support the developer. Btw. Along with "Hackers keyboard" it's even better!

guys, I've spent 3 days trying to deploy a small site with a nodejs API on ubuntu/apache with a reverse proxy.
I was cursing everything and everyone when I realised the node app was listening on port 1337 while the proxy was set to 31172 -
So, i'm trying to get linkr (a pretty cool short link service) to work in a docker container since 4 hours now to host it on my server. There is no official container because it needs a working database connection and stuff during installation which can only be done via console and (for whatever reason I couldn't find out yet) need to be done while building the container. The problem is, I can't connect it to the database while building the container so there is no database during installation to create tables and stuff and the build will fail. ARGH.
Why the hell would you do this????? Theyre actually saying in their readme there is no dockerfile because the config options are specific to your configuration...?!?!
The thing is entirely written in python, so reading and parsing configfiles on the fly should not really be a problem.
Of course I could ssh into the container and run the installation script but that's not the point.
Docker is not about being lazy.
It's about portability.
Maybe I don't want to bloat my server with your 39579372639 npm dependencies? Or I don't want to install a freakin apache, because I have every other site on nginx and therefore wouldn't work with apache.

Earlier I shat myself after an apt-get upgrade broke php and apache somehow decided it's a great idea to serve all .php files as plain text. I was super relieved to find no confidential information (apart from logic) was made public. -

What are the most common used technologies in workplaces around you?
Everywhere here I see an endless sea of .NET with ocassional streams of Java and some islands of php on IIS or Apache on the server, with ASP/JSP or Angular and jQuery on the client side.
Workstations are 100% Windows(10 or 7, with some legacy XP here and there).
Also most servers run Windows or some Unix version. Linux only for web servers and various system appliances.
Node.js, Ruby on rails, Django/Flask, React.js,Vue.js, Mac/Linux endpoints are only rarely used by fringe hipsters like me and my friends.3 -

One of the most headache-inducing things about being a developer is having to find a solution to every little ailment that software has.
An example would be: working with a particular stack. LEAN, MEAN, LAMP, WAMP,.. The nightmare of having to deal with every single error in PHP, NodeJS, Apache Server, Nginx, the HTTP spec intricacies, the HTML5 spec, API problems..

So I'm dealing with an Apache Tomahawk schedule component that's started acting up.
It turns out that when you click on a time slot, instead of just posting up the time slot, it posts back to the server the component you clicked on (the whole calendar), and the y position of the click.

Damned XAMPP doesn't want to run MySQL. Can't access phpmyadmin on local machine. Fixed localhost problems now it shows me 404! Edited all ports in config files for Apache, killed some tasks working on that port, stopped running some services - still nothing. Now found out there are some db files missing for MySQL via error log so I need to fix that plus 404 on my localhost. Don't feel like I'm close to solve all that. Half of a day wasted with no results. I need a cold shower and a gallon of coffee.1

I am trying frantically to migrate our (@Gerrymandered and I) website from a hosted solution with Namecheap to my new personal badass server, Vector. The issue is that I need to host multiple subdomains under one IP. I learned how to use apache2's VirtualHost feature, and eventually made them all work. But now we need to get our 3 year SSL Certs that we already paid for working. Try to get ssl pass through... Nope. Fine, just use the VHost then forward it unsecured to the local ip which only accepts connections from the Apache host. But wait! I want to access my ESXi config page remotely too! Good GOD it is a pain in the ass to get all of this working, but I somehow did. c# could work (and microsoft shop jobs are plentiful) but fucking VS code is a headache and microsoft seems intent on locking everyone into VS and making everything they touch turn to shit, like the king midas of diarrhea (thanks MS, monodevelop is source only on windows). Also c# for android (xamarin) requires apache cordova to do anything, which means...TADA, FUCKING JAVASCRIPT and all the other shit it brings with it.
Java seems like an option, lots of jobs available, but I need netbeans for desktop (javafx) and Android Studio

Web server configuration sucks.
Apache or nginx have they're own custom configuration language and I don't understand why.
We've plenty of languages to work with: why we should learn some another custom commands with enigmatic commands for weird stuffs.
I'm not a python funboy but, a web server with python based configuration file will be so easy to setup and to maintain.9 -
When I wrote a templating engine (great overstatement) just for myself to learn, I had this bug in php5 and regex that would crash the whole apache server.
Literally nothing worked and I didn't know why. After rebuilding everything I tried with regex using only simple string manipulation all of a sudden everything worked fine. -

So until now I ran bitwarden official docker image on my server but as I forgot to create snapshot before updating yesterday and the whole network got fucked up :D I installed bitwarden-rs (Rust implementation) instead... Aaand it is sooooo good! It takes only around 20MB of RAM instead of 1GB+ and it is just lightning fast. Also replaced Apache with nginx for the first time and I love it so far.5

Why does WAMP have to be a pain for everything? I'm going to just use some premade thing for this because getting stuck on setup is not my idea of fun when I have python APIs to debug.

I was trying to setup a Confluence install on my root behind a Apache Proxy..
I tried all the Atlassian Configs, my own Configs, but nothing works for Tomcat. I redirects you to the infinities of universe. My Apache Configs are all correct.
If you access Confluence directly it also works.
Tomcat you Ass start playing nice with the proxy fucker!

I bought a cheap vserver and I set up apache, MySQL etc. at the moment. Which MySQL version is the best currently? I am used to 5.5 but if I see it correctly, there is already MySQL 8 out. Are there any major differences?13

I have a co-worker that joined the company earlier this year, from the day he came he thought that we all now nothing about what we're doing and tries to teach us the simplest things. Even once he was trying to tell me what DocumentRoot is and I said nothing. The funny thing is that at the end he told me that my Linux knowledge is crappy!2

Not fair! How come Apache gets its modsecurity module pre-compiled and available in public repositories, but Nginx hides it behind a paywall of their "Plus" package/version?

So I've had a few rants now about this dumbass legacy Apache Wicket project I'm on.... Latest was that the guy who kind of knew what was going on but was impossible to communicate with is was leaving which meant I'd be inheriting this shit show. I was on leave his last week and he had the task of onboard the new senior.
I get here this morning and meet this guy. Seems a nice enough champ, well spoken (praise be.) First thing the man says to me is that this code is a mess and he doesn't really understand the IP... Yea me too, buddy, me too2 -

Stupid licensing issue.
I have a licensing question/problem.
I'm porting Lemonbar (the fancy GNU/Linux X11 statusbar) to D (which is awesome imo).
I'm adding Wayland functionality and since D is part of the C syntax family some code is just about exactly the same (the XCB libs are protocol-generated external imports).
Also, the X-specific parts are in a specific file.
What do I license the project against? My own license (I prefer Apache) or Lemonbar's? What about the X-specific file?
BTW, it's a full rewrite using the same concepts, object-orienting the whole thing.2 -

Is it wise to use nginx instead of Apache if running php (in regards to the LAMP stack)? And can php be kept strictly in the backend? I've never used php before and now I get the chance (yippie) so I want to hear what you guys have to say. Previously I've used node. And also, can frontend libraries like react or vue be used alongside php or is it just going to turn into a smorgasbord of nonsense.

One of the things that gives me a lot of satisfaction is doing integrations. One customer has a good architecture, and they chose to put their metrics database with billions of records in Apache Cassandra. Which is pretty cool! A business consultancy that is helping them grow a lot, has implemented PowerBI and the dashboards are really good, but the most important reports will be based on this gigantic Cassandra database. We just delivered a quick integration using Apache Spark. Small project, fast delivery and everyone happy. Is so good. Mission accomplished feeling.1

Spent almost 2 hours looking at the apache conf I was given only to find out all the rewrites were broken due to a missing '/' on the mod rewrite condition. Fml

When you debug and notice that "myString".equals("myString") evaluates to false...and after an hour realize it's a 'Byte Order Mark', which of course Java doesn't handle properly. Ended up using BomInputReader from Apache commons, which made my life simpler.
If I ever want to inflict pain on other developers, I shall write files to disk with a byte order mark. 😂 -
I once did this project with Apache Tika, which also has a batch module to add concurrency (Tika by itself is not thread-safe).
However, there is maybe 2 pages of documentation which don't explain any of the classes etc, and no javadoc, so I had to figure everything out through trial and error. At the end it still threw an error but magically worked. Turns out it was not fast enough anyway. -
debugging escalated hard. started with neos, went over Apache and nginx. no more problems there after a clean db import. spent the whole day on this and endet up with the "result", that varnish, this fkn (most of the times helpful) bastard, is the problem. didn't get any results after that. meh.

I have a domain which I bought because it was very cheap, I have an old pc which I use as a server and I have to servers on the Oracle Cloud free tier
Now the actual question
Without shelling for a managed dns (which would be more per month than I'm paying for the domain per year), is there a way that I can self-host from my server and then use the Oracle Cloud servers as fallback/failover?
All 3 machines are Ubuntu 18.04 using Apache HTTPD, if that helps2 -

Any advice for debugging a 520 error from Cloudflare?
I know this isn’t SO but Ive been having the toughest time finding a decent way to find the cause of a 520 error from Cloudflare.
I have a droplet of Digital Ocean running Apache 2.4X and randomly throughout the day I will get 520 errors in the browser’s Networking log.
Naturally, there’s nothing even noted in the Apache error log or access log. And Cloudflare has no logs on this in the console.
If I retry the request it will go through with no problem.
Anyone experienced something like this?5 -

me: FE in work, but doing fullstack on my passion projects and somewhat confident on small VPSs - heck, I have a beard, I can do server stuff :) - migrating a WP site that just wont work, copied everything, didn't work, used a migration tool, didn't work, always getting "Connection refused"... must be something with the SSL certificates.. 3 fckn days passed by and nothing when I stumbled upon a forum post with similar issue where the guy stated: I tried all the obvious like copying files, db, certificates, enabled ssl on apache... then it hit me, this is a new installation, I didn't enabled SSL in apache sudo a2enmode ssl restarted apache and BOOM everything is working

I realise this might not be the place but does anyone know of a simple diagram JS library I can use where I can just simply drop the relevant files in a html/php file on an apache server and not have to install <package manager>, set up a <js server software> and be forced into pulling a million dependancies because the devs couldn't do something as simple as pad a string?

Ok, so for past 1 whole day I am trying to make vhost work on my brand new laptop, running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS... When I installed OS, I've set hard disk encryption, and on top of it - user home folder encryption. Don't ask me why I did both.
Setting up vhost is simple and straight forward - I did it hundreds, maybe thousands of times, on various Linux distros, server and desktop releases alike.
And of course, as it usually happens, opposed to all logic and reason - setting up virtual host on this machine did't work. No matter what I do - I get 403 (access not allowed).
All is correctly set - directory params in apache config, vhost paths, directory params within vhost, all the usual stuff.
I thought I was going crazy. I go back to several live servers I'm maintaining - exactly the same setup that doesn't work on my machine. Google it, SO-it, all I can see is exactly what I have been doing... I ended up checking char by char every single line, in disbelief that I cannot find what is the problem.
And then - I finally figured it out after loosing one whole day of my life on it:
I was trying to setup vhost to point to a folder inside my user's home folder - which is set to be encrypted.
Aaaaaand of course - even with all right permissions - Apache cannot read anything from it.
As soon as I tried any other folder outside my home folder - it worked.
I cannot believe that nobody encountered this issue before on Stackoverflow or wherever else.9 -
So I'm about to set up a server for websites and my past experience comes with Linux running Apache. I'm wondering however what you guys would recommend for system and engine (if URL forwarding is included like in Apache that's preferable). I want it to be able to run PHP or similar since I'm looking to create my own CMS (or run C++ if anyone got any good tutorials on how to use that for web development).

I wanted to add the rewrite_module to my apache-Server on my Mac.. Then the Website loads infinite. I commented it back out, restarted and it don‘t works even then.
I started laughting because Errors started to appear before starting with anything. 😂 -

We have to create a localhost server with Apache and create a database with Postgressql, we used the LAMP solution in the end and yes we discovered the existing of WAMP, but hey ! on Linux look COOLER 😂😎👌

It seems like it never came to the mind of the developers of Apache Spark that people might want to use two of their libraries together to perform graph analysis on streamed Twitter data.
Why can't I simply use the streamed batches to create and extend a graph and perform continuous graph Algorithms on it??2 -
Is there anyway to post a data to a apache server without using headerless data? (A http packet without headers, just raw data string)
